The Esquire Tavern

Very awesome place and history. We just had drinks here, Heat of the Moment drink was really good. The old fashioned was meh! Needs a Luxardo cherry. The speakeasy downstairs is really awesome! We didn't stay as we needed to head back to the hotel, but the vibe and the space is really well-done.

Absolutely LOVED my visit here ! Daniel was awesome. Very attentive, made a great cocktail, and gave me a bunch of recommendations of fun things to do while I'm in town. He was super funny and easy to talk to. I've been to several bars, restaurants etc while visiting and it's hard to find a place that has staff that is willing to take the time to get to know you. It made me feel welcomed and I am most certainly going to be back a few more times before my trip ends. I had a Moscow mule and it was sooooo good! I love that they make their own ginger beer. It was perfectly gingery and balanced. My only complaint was that I wish the ginger beer had more carbonation. One of the best qualities of a mule is how crisp and bubbly the ginger beer is. But it was still good and I would definitely get it again. Can't wait to come back to try more cocktails and food.

Out of our short little trip to San Antonio, this spot has been our favorite. We made reservations online about a week before. If every server at every restaurant was like Woody, I think we'd wanna eat out more often! He was just excellent.We were sat on the beautiful upper balcony in a pleasant corner spot overlooking the river walk. The chips and dip appetizer was so good! We also enjoyed root beer, cocktails, hamburgers and the chicken entree. Woody came around and checked on us the perfect amount of times. He was extremely attentive and nice, as well as patient when we needed time to order / made slight modifications to our dishes. The restaurant inside is moody and mysterious almost - but the tavern itself is from the 1930s!! It was such a great dinner and my parents had the best time. We would definitely come back. Also - yes, you should get the key lime pie.

Had a great snack with fabulous drinks! Woody was very attentive, personable and efficient. Apps were delivered lightening fast and were perfectly fresh. My Cowboy something was delish! Love cheersing the boats that float by!

We were told this is one of the oldest bars in San Antonio so we decided to check it out. It used to be a speakeasy during Prohibition era.Nota bene: the speakeasy portion is downstairs which doesn't open until 6 pm.The upstairs is open during their actual open hours and was super nice. They have an outdoor space as well which would be nice on a spring/summer day to chill and look out on the river walk.I got the CC which was tiramisu in liquid form. It was absolutely phenomenal.Would def come back in the future to check out their speakeasy section!

Loved the dark ambience and chill vibe. Only had cocktails but they were very tasty. Service was nice and friendly. Would recommend checking it out. Can't speak for the food, but the menu looked good.

Great experience here for a late night dinner downtown. It's a historic bar being the oldest on the riverwalk and we were surprised with the menu. There's a good variety of entrees and sandwiches not just bar food. We still went with the Esquire burger and bison burger and the order of fries is enough for two. Even on a Friday night the hostess sat us quickly and our food came out fast.

The food was good, the drinks were great and the view was phenomenal from the upstairs balcony overlooking the Riverwalk! Our server was Woody W. Went above and beyond to make us comfortable and feel right at home. Definitley recommend The Esquire to anyone looking for good food, good service and a fun place to hang out.Go Woody!!!

Woody was an amazing server. He made drink and small food recommendations and even let us in on the history of the barber shop then bar downstairs.

Food was amazing. Waiter woody did an outstanding job! Ask for him! Sat on the river with amazing music and beautiful lit up trees. Amazing experience.
