Tamahli opened around my area about 7 years ago, and while I never ate there, I had often heard that their tamales were delicious. In fact, I had a coworker who couldn't get enough of them. They closed pretty soon after opening, so, I never had a chance to taste their tamales. Fast forward to a couple of days, when I discovered that they had a brick-and-mortar site where orders could be placed and picked up. When I called the person taking the order was very friendly and pleasant. They asked for a pick-up time, they do close after 2, and I placed my order for the banana leaf Holy Moley and the Poblano. The Tamahli building looks like a tiny warehouse, not a restaurant, so it can be a bit disconcerting when picking up orders. Plus, I had to ring at the entrance to gain access into the building, The inside is clean, but very office like, although it seems they may have a kitchen towards the back area. I got my tamales, paid and got ready for my favorite part, eating them. The tamales were delicious and well made. They reminded me a bit of the authentic Mexico City tamales eaten through the years and missed, since they are not easy to find here in SA. We usually have to make them. These had a little bit less masa, but were flavorful and delicious. They were about $14.50 for a 1/2 of Holy Moley and $9.50 for the Poblanos, so pretty pricey, but worth a try. I would definitely recommend them if looking for a tamale that is more similar to those made in Mexico DF.

The holidays are over, but I can't stop thinking about the tamales I had at Tamales! Holiday Festival at Pearl back in December. One tamale vendor stood out above all the rest - Tamahli.Tamahli's specialty is tamales from Central and Southern Mexico. Tamales in the south are usually wrapped in banana leaves as opposed to corn husks, which gives them a unique flavor and a distinctive gift-like look. The line for Tamahli's booth was by far the longest we stood in the day of the festival - and the tamales were worth every minute of the 45-minute wait. We had the Pig in a Husk traditional pork tamale, a Pollo Verde made with shredded chicken and green salsa wrapped in a banana leaf, and my absolute favorite, the First Kiss sweet tamale with cinnamon, vanilla and pecans.Read more about Tamahli and see photos: http://sapalate.com/2015/01/05/tamahli-not-just-for-christmas/

I've never had a tamale that was so small with very little masa and even less meat inside. The masa unfortunately was grainy, didn't have flavor and extremely greasy. The chicken and pork lacked flavor and the bean tasted like from a can :( but the customer service there is incredible everyone is so nice. Everyone has different taste buds so kind Id say give it a try just to see for yourself.

Tamahli's traditional preparation, results in a tender masa that surrounds the pork, chicken (sautéd with flavorful/spicy chiles), bean and cheese, vegetarian or sweet fruit centers, that evoke the flavors of the tamales, at restaurants such as Javier's Cafe in Mexico City. The half dozen is a substantial, filling-focused showcase of ingredients.On-line ordering is easiest and staff is efficient with order.Buen provecho!

Visit was first time ordering. So everyone realizes, this is NOT a restaurant. It is a place to order mostly organic, handmade tamales of at least 10 varieties. They come in corn masa, banana leaves, & sweet or hearty. I ordered five kinds and all have been brimming w ingredients & very flavorful. My favorite (so far) is the bean. Yummy, yummy! Will definitely return & try other kinds.

These tamales are the best! I have been ordering from Tamahli for the last 4 years and they never fail to please. My order is always ready when I come to pick up, hot and ready to serve. Every year my colleagues ask me to order more. They are moist, flavorful... spicy ones are spicy but not so spicy you can't enjoy. I've tried all the savory flavors and they are all delicious; I can't pick a favorite!
