Best fast food in San Antonio Texas. Better than burgers and pizza. Whole family loves it!

TLDR: Decent enough place, but puzzling IKEA-like serving...I've heard good-to-mixed things about Taco Palenque, from what I gather they've got a great reputation in areas south of San Antonio. My experience tells me that they're likely an authentic Mexican-style place that takes its time making real food as opposed to pre-made corporate fare. The portions are generous, and overall very tasty though the oddness of what's there really puzzles me. The salsas are extremely watery, and the tortillas and meat all have a greasy feel and sheen. Oddest of all was the serving - I ordered the Street Sirloin, which should be a lot like Mexican street tacos. Beef on a pair of small corn tortillas, served with grilled onions and cilantro.Check out the picture to see what I got. The tacos are there, but everything else is separate or wrapped up in foil. I suppose that like IKEA, you're supposed to build the taco yourself? Not a big deal, but when added to the watery salsa and the greasiness of everything else...yeah, weird. I'll come back sometime to try this place again, see if I came on an off day. In the meantime, I'll give this place a 3 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below.5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here.4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary.3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad.2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here.1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

Stopped in for a late night snack and got a bean and cheese taco. Service was fast and friendly. Restaurant was clean - a nice surprise for the late night hour. And the salsa and chips bar was clean and well stock with many options. Thanks

I stopped by because I wanted late night tacos, their open sign is on...and the website says they're open. Maybe they should update their hours if they aren't going to accept orders 30 minutes before their closing time. I wouldn't have driven over here, and gone to Mama Margies down the road instead.

I really enjoyed my chicken quesadilla, beef fajita taco. The salsas are more towards the spicy side, except for verde. Really good verde, fresh pico de Gallo. But the most important part is my food wasn't salty. It didn't taste overly salted like the food I got from UTSA location of Taco Palenque. I was going to give up on this chain and I'm glad I didn't. The manager here is doing something right. I appreciate him so much. @Edgar

Not sure why such a low rating since this has become my families go to. My husband was the 1st in our family to check it out and he couldn't stop raving about the food and options here. So gave it a try and yes he was right!! Tonight I ordered the chicken Flautas, husband ordered the beef fajita taco combo with Horchata, and MNL ordered the crispy Tacos. Everything was packed great for a to go order. Food was hot when we got home. The Horchata was so good not too sweet . The chips and queso where SO GOOD!! Chef kiss!! Flautas were a good size. Refried beans were good. And that's coming from a Mexican!!So in all yes go for it You will not regret it.

I am not sure why the low rating for this place. It has become our family go to place for weekend Mexican food.I have only gotten food to go but service is always excellent. Everything is nicely packaged and they bring the food out to you at the packing lot. There was a time when I didn't know how to pronounce some of the menu items correctly at the drive through, the cashier even came out to the drive through to make sure he got me order correctly.Everything we have tried so far are excellent. Ingredients are fresh, taste is really good, and portion is always big so very good for sharing with your family. Our favorite is the super sirloin or beef quesadilla, we order it every time. But other items are also good such as the street tacos and Fajitas meals.

Price: $3 and up. Just depends what's you get Flavor: ohh yeah the authenticity is there! What to get: panchitos with beef fajita or pirata taco Experience: I'm from Laredo TX where it all happened! I remember going out late at night or coming back from the border and dining in smothered with cheese and beans from dipping my hands in that panchito bowl full of cheese beans and chips (basically beef nachos with cheese) the original flavor is still there and I can't not say how amazed I am with that! This is the only restaurant that takes me back to my childhood! This is not your typical Tex-mex food so if you don't like authentic Mexican food (like my in laws ) then I wouldn't recommend it! The margaritas are strong and goooodddd definitely check them out for happy hour! You can't go wrong with anything on their menu.

I come to this location very often, and I've had issues with their portions. Specifically with the $6 Pirata taco (that's outrageously expensive to begin with). I've had about 15 instances where I get home and there's almost no meat in the taco( total 3 pieces of fajita meat all tiny pieces). So they're essentially selling you a $6 bean and cheese taco, YIKES. The first few times I called and complained but I'm at the point where I'm just simply not going to go to this location ever again. Tired of getting scammed.

I order weekly from this location; but that may change. Today, I ordered Pancho (fajita) with 3 salsas. The chips were all crumbs and pieces. I had to scrape it together with the cheese, and eat it with a fork, as I could not pick up the chip crumbs with my fingers. No salsa. And the avocado amount was considerable smaller.Last week I order The Pancho (fajita), 1 potato and egg, and 1 chorizo and egg breakfast taco. The Pancho was good, but the tacos were completely wrong. Instead I received a bean 'n cheese, and a fajita taco.
