Highly recommend this restaurant! It is an interesting Mexican Chinese fusion. I felt like we were getting Michelin star quality dishes but in a comfy, homier environment. We tried the big red tacos. The meat was very tender. I liked the pesto sauce. I ate the taco by itself and you can taste the soda flavor! It almost tastes like a candy. I liked my Korean fried chicken McGriddle dish. The pancakes were so fluffy and the added shell wasn't too sweet. The chicken was a tad spicy and had a nice crunch! I liked the slaw. The service was fast and friendly. Prices for most entrees sanded from $17-28. I thought they were reasonable prices.

Chef Leo Davila's concept has taken a foothold in San Antonio. Exceptional food preparation, technique, flavor, the precision of the food is only matched by the narratives of each plate that explains its complexity and journey from Chef's inspiration to the table. The Big Red & Barbacoa Taco Flight is his signature dish. 31 attempts to find the perfect balance to mix the cloyingly syrupy soda into the nixtamalized corn to create a subtly sweet mix married to masa topped by a rendered barbacoa that is lean and flavorful, topped with house jam, chile de arbol salsa, queso fresco, and pickled watermelon rind. The watermelon rind is from his childhood, from summers of backyard parties. The food not only reflects his innovation but his legacy. The house jam and watermelon is reminiscent of his childhood upbringing with his Chinese grandmother in the backyard, while the Big Red also conjures up memories of Sunday AMs drinking the pop with barbacoa, a San Antono tradition.Other plates infuse his Chinese Mexican American heritage, including the Wok Fried SignaturePork Belly Delight and the incredible Pan Seared Duck Breast with Hibiscus Mole. I have been several times and listing every dish is practically just giving you the menu. Other faves include the Sticky Sticky Ribs, the Chicken & Hong Kong Waffle, and the seasonal Crispy Dogs and Chicken on a Stick beauties.Beverages are standard non alcoholic options that add little consequence to the menu. Service is above average and always attentive. Servers / hosts are all family, from the inspiration of many of the dishes affectionately called The Granny and his mother, known as The Mother. Service is very family oriented and friendly, and due to the inherent relationships, the service shares the narratives and same desire to present not just the food but the story.I've been to Stix and Stone several times (most recently November 14th, 2024), and it's consistently one of the best dining experiences. The biggest complaint from folks is the site itself; the strip mall location and low key setting can create a dissonance with the elite level cuisine. In the end, I am of the camp that I don't eat walls, I eat good food. Every person I have recommended the restaurant to has had a great experience. As the San Antonio UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy Chef Ambassador for the next two years, he's continuously pushing the envelope whether in the US or abroad in China. His selection proves that not only is he doing the work but others have taken notice. Folks can describe Chef Leo Davila's concept as Asian Fusion, but the word fusion with it's unfavorable connotations belies the wonderfulness of the food. Chef Leo Davila's food is much more than fusion and is a reflection of his legacy. Arguably one of the most innovative cuisines in San Antonio, folks online (including many 210ers) relegated Stixs & Stone to dribble like "Asian fusion tacos..." "Bougie Northside tacos..." "those aren't real tacos" even after being named in the Top Ten of Texas Monthly's Top 50 Best Tacos. And that's a shame. As a Southsider, I get it. I too love my Military Dr tacos and joints, but I promise you, and even those who live in other areas of San Antonio, Chef Leo Davila's Stixs & Stone is doing big things and pushing San Antonio cuisine to new heights.

So many good things to say. The big red barbacoa tacos are probably best tacos I've ever had. The meat was just like the best barbacoa you can find at the best authentic Mexican taco shops. The tortilla is infused with Big Red soda but it just makes the tortilla red colored and adds a slight sweetness that's not at all overpowering. Then the pickled watermelon rind, quest fresco, pesto and Chile de arbol salsa brought it all together for the perfect food trance. If this was going to be at all representative of what their dessert would be like, I had to get dessert. The churro bread pudding was amazing. Not overly sweet and just so delicious with the perfect toasted exterior. The service was excellent. The general manager and server (mother of the chef) were so warm and welcoming. I felt like I was being welcomed into their family kitchen.I sadly only have one more day in San Antonio so I might just have to come here two days in a row!

Walking in, this place felt like a mom and pop shop. I was surprised by the presentation of each dish that came out. The inside was a bit smaller than expected. Service was friendly and fairly quick. Their menu was simple and easy to read. We tried the following dishes and really enjoyed it: - Korean fried cauliflower: drenched with gochujang glaze, definitely spicy and tastes better if you eat with rice because the sauce can be overpowering. - japchae: come in two sizes, we got the large and very filling for two people. This is not your traditional japchae but still tastes just as good. - pan seared duck breast with hibiscus mole: cooked to perfection, the duck meat was very tender. - wok fried signature pork belly: served over steamed rice, pork belly sort of melts in your mouth

Been wanting to try this place for months. It was nice to go to a restaurant that was 100% gluten and didn't have to worry. It was a small and cute spot. We had two waitresses both really nice and attentive. We got the the brûlée seasonal salad, chicken and Hong Kong waffles, honey walnut shrimp, and churro bread pudding. Everything was really good. Portions were a good size especially the chicken and waffles. We will definitely be going back to try more of the menu.

The food here was definitely amazing. I couldn't believe the amount of unique flavor each dish was able to encapsulate. It truly is a fusion of different flavors. I can see why all the reviews rave about it. The smacked cucumbers Will recommended by the waitress and were refreshing and cool in the hot summer heat. I had the honey walnut shrimp dish, The sauce was delicious. My wife had the kimchi bowl, every ingredient tasted fresh. The only downside is the prices seem a bit higher than normal for a fine dining restaurant, especially for a lunch meal, the ambience and the decor of the restaurant didn't seem to fit the pricing. It seems like a hole in the wall restaurant. I would be hesitant to return only because of the expense.

Last Saturday, we headed over to @stixsandstone for dinner. Other times we've visited, we had ordered to go. This time we decided to dine in.All of us had the Strawberry Lemonade, which was refreshing. We then shared the Duck with hibiscus mole, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and Japchae. My favorite was the Honey Walnut Shrimp. The sauce is outstanding and Dad couldn't stop eating the sauce with rice. We had typically had the Barbacoa with Big Red tortillas but thought to try something else this time. Everything was beautifully plated. We were full and didn't have room for dessert. Maybe next time!Check out @satx.aapi to download the passport and see the participating restaurants and businesses!
