Pop's BBQ

After hearing raving review about this little shack in the middle of no where, the wife and I ate there about a week or so ago. I had a chopped brisket sandwich, and the wife had brisket tacos. I like to put my own sauce on my sandwich, so I asked for my sauce on the side. The brisket was very tender, very flavorful, and was very delicious. The chopped brisket sat on top of buns from Naegelin's Bakery, which made for an even better pairing. I asked the wife how the tacos were, and she said they were really good. Not one complaint. Usually, I can get at least one comment of this or that could have been better, but none of that. Lastly, with every meal, you get a free side of banana pudding. I do not know which was better, the barbecue, or the banana pudding. Their banana pudding tasted like it had a cream cheese in it, and it made it a lot more decadent for myself. My wife was not a fan of the banana pudding, but she tends to be a "banana pudding" snob and a "connoisseur" of banana pudding. If it is not the kind you stir and stir and stir and stir on a stove, it is not worthy. But that's ok! I ate hers too!My only complaint about this place is it is only open on weekends!

Great BBQ! Their brisket tacos are awesome. Ribs are cooked just right. This place is a bit off in the boonies but very easy to get to. Worth the extra 5 minute drive from NB. Folks are very friendly and the facilities are rustic yet comfortable. You have to taste the banana pudding! It is complimentary and the best you will find locally.

This place is on the north side of NB. If you are passing through San Marcos or NB, it's a MUST to stop here!!!! The Owner genuinely cares about your experience and the food he serves. I watched a party of four go to sit down to eat on this cold day and the Owner came out and turned on a large heater for them. I bought four pulled pork sandwiches for my son's guests. They never even got to eat them. My two boys ate a sandwich a piece and high-jacked the other two. They could barely breath as they devoured them! Lol We also received four banana puddings for FREE that were insanely delicious. There was tons of extra sauce, pickles, onions, etc. I feel I owe them more money than just $16!!! For as much meat was in those sandwiches! Best place to eat on the weekend!!!!!

Absolutely incredible, delicious BBQ, and amazing owners. Small family run, served in to-go containers. Exactly what you want from a small Texan BBQ spot
