Third time back in San Antonio and finally stayed downtown on the Riverwalk. Hands down one of the best and convenient restaurant and bar on E Houston. While corporate restaurants, tourism fare, and carbon copy food joints overpower the area, Poblano's offers good and friendly service, homemade salsas, food con sazón, great drinks mixed by Davíd, is in the thick of downtown, and all for phenomenal prices! You cannot go wrong with soft chicken tacos, tortilla soup, enchiladas, and nachos. Also, the bar truly is a magical place with new signature drinks, cool-ass staff, and the traditional margaritas with Tarjin. If you're in town, come down and hang. Whether you come in for quick bite to eat to a party of 10+ with kids, the place is accommodating. As of now there isn't a happy hour and service has an old school "counter" feel that make lines long. But trust me -- You'll leave happy, full, grateful, and can't wait to see you back. POBLANOS - gracias por ser!

Good food at a good price, but I expected better. The Tex-Mex plate has a good mix of food, but putting the hard taco right next to the mole was a recipe for a disintegrating taco. Still good, though. The tamale (unwrapped) was also good, though I don't know whether I should've expected more flavor. Most of the flavor of that came from the mole. They were right on the money with the cheese enchilada, though. Plenty of cheese, a thick tortilla, and good mole that had spicy flavor without the heat (from a guy who can't do hotter than a poblano). The restaurant itself is pretty tightly packed with tables, which makes their counter service about the only way to make the whole thing work. Overall, not bad, but I've had Mexican just as good in SC and NC. I'd expect better from a place where this kind of food is more native.

Ordered huevos Ranchero and coffee. Food and service is very good. Nice and calming atmosphere on Saturday morning. Available off street parking. Our hotel is nearby and within walking distance. They have patio seating with room for your pet.Order at counter and wait for your number to get called out. There are high tables and regular tables for friends and family.

I suppose there is a first for everything. This is my first 1-star review which I actively try avoid giving out. Unfortunately, this establishment seems to have met the criteria to receive one.But first, let me tell you about the restaurant. It's a counter serve place, you order, pay, and they'll give you a receipt with your order number on it. Now you wait until they call your number, which occurs when the low rumbling gentleman in the kitchen emphasizes your number on the PA system. You'll go up to the counter and the gentleman will be bringing your order out of the kitchen. They've got free ice water, pre-portioned salsas for pickup, and napkins. They also offer horchata. Their only non-cold beverage is some coffee, from the dispenser by the bathroom hallway. They seem to have a bar off to the side. Also, they feed Air Force graduates for free, as advertised by their signage. So far, so good. They've also got inside and outside seating. However, their bathrooms are quite filthy. They could definitely use a good cleaning. Dirty sink faucets are no fun to touch. This lack of cleanliness leads me to believe they may not care about what food they serve. It's akin to seeing a large cockroach having a fun time swimming in an aromatic urinal pool, or red-eyed fruit fly triplets scuba diving amongst the floating glaciers in your ice water.Besides the bathrooms, when you first enter the restaurant, you'll be hit with air perfumed with stinky mop water odors. These wonderful smells linger quite a while around your nose, and they won't dissipate quickly while you wait in line to order. Sure, you could resist the urge to wrinkle your nose with displeasure at such smells, but perhaps it's better to avoid encountering such aromas if possible.Smells aside, we can move onto the fact about how their food lacks seasoning. Perhaps the only item they add salt to are their refried beans. We opted to obtain a pair of breakfast plates. One huevos rancheros, one huevos mexicana, both with barbacoa.I could construct a better tasting breakfast from the continental breakfast items at a hotel. As mentioned, the only item with flavor were the refried beans. The barbacoa, while pretty juicy and tender, was underseasoned. Everything else was saltless. Those cubed potatoes over there on the side? No salt, meaning bland. Then came the eggs, arguably a significant part of each dish. One set came with scrambled eggs, and the other one we ordered with eggs easy over. The easy overs were cooked and had runny yolks, so at least they didn't over cook them. However, like the potatoes they were unseasoned with no salt. Even the red tomato-onion gravy dished over them lacked flavor: no sour tanginess, no savory flavors. The gravy tasted like one of those unimpressive flavorless quite watery raw tomatoes, if you took a slice and just ate the pulp.As for the scrambled eggs, those were quite oily. And this time, instead of adding salt for seasoning, they decided to mix in plenty of egg shells for an improved texture and crunch experience. So, they serve bland, yet crunchy and oily scrambled eggs. Delicious. In summary, you'd love it here if you enjoy being swaddled in stinky mop water aromas and don't mind touching faucet grime when washing your hands. You might also enjoy their food if you like tasteless, unseasoned food. Lastly, if you like oily, crunchy, tasteless scrambled eggs seasoned with plenty of egg shells, this restaurant has your back. Keywords: stinky mop water, smelly, filthy, unseasoned, no salt, eggshells, oily, crunchy, PA system

Sometimes it is best to just let the traffic in the parking garage thin out after a play at the Majestic instead of sitting in the car and waiting. And that's how we ended up at Poblanos. We realized it would be way less stressful to just leave for about an hour and come back when all the garage traffic was gone. We walked in and it was such a welcoming atmosphere. And since we only wanted chips and drinks, we were seated at the bar. The bartender answered our questions and I chose to get the watermelon margarita. It was the right choice -- it was very good. My husband got the mango margarita and also really liked it. The chips and dip were great and the owner came and talked to us and made us feel very welcome.

We stopped at Poblano's for a quick, casual dinner that my daughter would enjoy, nothing too fancy. As we were walking towards the Riverwalk, the cozy vibe of this family-owned restaurant drew us in. From the moment we stepped inside, the service was impeccable. We were warmly greeted by a lovely woman who runs the restaurant with her husband. She was so sweet with our daughter, even giving her some extra tortillas--her favorite! It felt like we were part of their family as she shared a bit of the restaurant's background. For dinner, I had the soft taco plate while my husband went with the enchilada plate. The tacos were delicious--tender, flavorful meat wrapped in tortillas that were truly something special. Made fresh in-house, you could tell they put extra care into them, and they were easily the highlight of the meal. The prices were on par with other restaurants in the area, not a bargain but fair for the quality. What really stood out, though, was the warm, welcoming service. It had a homey feel, and we left feeling well taken care of. I highly recommend Poblano's for a relaxed and delightful dining experience."
