This restaurant is amazing!! Visited for happy hour, and the food and deals were unbelievable. The service was also fantastic; the bartender answered many of our questions and recommended great options! The inside is very pretty, particularly the high ceilings! It is clean, simple, and elegant. I noticed there is an upstairs area too, perhaps for private parties or events. 100/10 recommend visiting for happy hour!

The restaurant itself is beautiful and was excited for the possibilities! At first the service was slow, but we didn't think much of it. We finally ordered after about 20 minutes. To set the scene, the restaurant was mostly empty. There were a few large groups but less than half of it was full. After 30 minutes one guy from our table received one dish. He ended up eating it so it didn't get cold even though it was awkward all of us watching him eat, but then the rest of us sat there for over an hour without any food and when we asked about it, they just said the "the dishes will come out as they're ready". An hour and a half after we got there all of us received the first of their food, except one person... we understand the delays happen, but the strange part was the restaurant never acknowledged how weird the delay was or tried to make up for it in anyway. And the most bizarre part of the whole thing was, they charged an automatic gratuity which at first we assumed was standard for a group of seven but then later we come to find out, they didn't charge automatic gratuity for another table that was the same size, which seems completely unethical, especially after everything that happened. Unfortunately will never return.

Time hasn't improved this product. The kitchen is still wildly uneven. There's very little authentic Japanese food or technique being featured here. It's just flash for the sake of flash with no real understanding of the aesthetic or culture. Lots of empty tables the night I went back. I fear some of that has.to do with the recent harassment allegations made against the owner by current and former staff members. As I said when I first dined here,.it's a design forward eating space (for San Antonio, at least) and the rest of the experience just falls apart. Honestly, if they were smart, they would bring in a more capable kitchen team and copy the menu from.Nobu as best they could.

I ate here with 2 girlfriends for the Culinaria menu. We were excited because we had heard really good things. I will say the food was good but our waitress did not know the menu and could not explain the menu. When asked her questions she would say descriptions of the color of the fish and we would then ask is that tuna? Almost felt like we were playing charades or being punked. I would expect more of a server at a restaurant of this caliber. The ambiance was nice. We did not feel rushed. I liked most everything we got. The stand outs for me were the tuna and the goyza with black garlic. The portions were small. I'm not a big eater but I didn't leave full. My husband would have needed more food.

I was craving sushi. Stopped by this restaurant on a Saturday evening. I did make reservations and I am glad I did because it was pretty full. They have valet parking , but there's a parking garage behind the restaurant that you can park at as well. I started off with the lychee Mojito. I felt like it was too sweet for me. For Appetizers, we had shishito peppers and brussels sprouts. The brussels sprouts were definitely the favorite. They had great flavor and the serving size was pretty big. For our main dishes, we shared the upscale roll, Lemon kani roll and the chef choice nigiri and a chutoro hand roll. By far, the upscale roll was our favorite. The flavors just exploded in your mouth. We had the fried banana cheesecake that came with ice cream and drizzle of strawberry. It was the perfect ending to a great meal. We were definitely happy when we left. Everyone we encounter was friendly. Our waiter was attentive

What a great little date night spot. I stopped here with the wife on our last date and we were both impressed. It was quaint and dimly lit, but not too dim. Just right. The music was hip and the service was great. We shared a couple of rolls and had the chicken karaage (I think that's how you spell it). It was something new that I've never heard of and it was actually quite delicious paired with my sáke. We have this place on our list of date night spots now. Will be back.

I came here for the first time to try the Culinaria restaurant week dinner menu with my friends. The course food was actually very good! The Truffle Miso Soup has great flavor. I enjoyed the difference of three Nigiri with different parts of tuna fish. Everyone's favorite was Otoro. The server told us all parts were from a same tuna fish from Nagasaki, Japan. The wagyu tsukune skewer was amazing! I wish I could eat more than one skewer though... the portion was too small. One thing we disappointed was the ice cream. It was supposed to be Chrysanthemum Honey Ice cream, but we tasted Matcha. It was still good, but just we wished...Obviously the course was very small and I was still hungry (the server also kindly warned us at the beginning). So I ordered three more white fish nigiri and Chutoro handroll. They were okay, not as good as the restaurant week course food. The each piece of fish meat could be thicker for the price. The fish flavor I remember from Japan is more flavorful than the ones they served. The interior is beautiful and nice as a modern upscale restaurant. Although I didn't like the restroom as the other people have reviewed lol The service was excellent. Just we felt that it was a little bit slow. But that's because the portion was very small like we could eat one dish in one bite lol Overall it is a nice restaurant, but in my opinion, the price and the potion are not matched well.

Group dining (9) experience was epic failure. Food took forever to deliver to table. Erratic timing with the appetizer soy beans and fried rice coming out last after 2 hours. All guest had eaten sushi while staek and chicken plates took 1.5 hours. Had to flag waitress down everytime we wanted cocktail refills. Asked to speak with GM. His responses were ridiculous. "We don't have enough pans, we are trying to bring all food out at same time, and we do family style here" um NO. He didn't apologize or even comp the 2 orders of fried rice that came out 20 minutes after everyone at the table was finished with entre. Then our check was wrong twice. Took 30 to correct. Still not accurate. 4 hour escaped. Skip this place. Overpriced food, horrible service and uneducated staff needs hospitality school! GM should seek alternative career.

If bad service needed a handbook, please see Nineteen Hyaku. Food ordered but not delivered for over an hour and a half, manager cited that they didn't have enough pans to cook with! Waitress was as rude as I would expect at Dicks Restaurant when foulness of staff is customary. If I could help anyone to steer away... then I've successfully saved a soul from late food, poor management and disastrous dining. Note if you don't heed my warning and still go with a party of 6, please look over the "split" amount as ours combined and compared was a couple hundred over what the original bill cited. This was noted and "recalculated" as a favor to us. This was our first and for certain the last time at Nineteen Hyaku.
