Mr C’s Fried Chicken & Waffles

We dined in for breakfast this morning at opening time. I will say I deducted 1 Star due to the buisness not being open on time at stated on their door at 8 am. We approached the door at 8:04 am and it was still locked. We stood there for a moment and no one came to open the door for us so we were going to go to another establishment that was actually open with the door open. Right as we were walking away a waitress came and said they were trying to find the key to unlock the door. Upon returning and I looked at the door and it didn't take a key so I wasn't impressed with that. Now on to the food the best part :) this was the 1st time ever trying Mr.C's and I was impressed. I had the chicken tenders and waffle. My hubby had 2 chicken thighs and waffle and grits. My dish was delicious. The waffles had a slightly sweet taste and the chicken was amazing. Seasoned to perfection and fried perfectly. It was juicy and not dry and not spicy or overly seasoned. My hubby enjoyed his dish as well. The plates have huge portions as well. We had 2 slices of cornbread and that was so good. It was slightly warm when served. The restaurant was clean and so were the bathrooms. The parking lot I could see would be tight if you park in front of the establishment but plenty of parking to the side and back.

First off... this is the week to try this place!!They have a PROMO!!One leg or thigh and one of their crispy fluffy wonderful waffles for 99cents! Yes !! 99 cents!!Perfect day for us to try this outstanding spot! Chicken and waffles alone are a BIG YES for me but this place also adds KOOL AID! And Beautiful cakes- RED b VELVET, chocolate and banana pudding... everything you want from a SOUL FOOD restaurant.They also offer other amazing food ! Burgers, wings, fried pork chops, monte Cristos, the list is endless. Seriously.Prices are great for the amount of food you get. I'm talking LARGE PORTIONS!The waitress was amazing. On her game. Consistent, friendly , welcoming! They start the meal with Homemade sweet corn bread and soft sweet butter - I mean.. come on!! From there it just gets better! I promise. Go by TODAY!!

While in San Antonio, we like to check out the restaurants, especially soul food, since we cannot get it in our area. Next on the list of recommendations was Mr. C's. We ordered the 10 piece meal with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. I made green beans at home to go with them. It came with cornbread. We also paid the up charge to have it mixed and ordered the family pack of chicken wings. When we arrived, they were packing up our order. The place is small but really cute. They have a chalkboard with drinks on it. The staff was really nice. The food came out HOT! When we arrived back home, the family tried it and felt it could use more seasoning for us. Everything tasted ok. We may try something else next time and eat in the restaurant.

Great atmosphere upon walking in. There's an energetic vibe and the staff is friendly and attentive. We ordered the homestyle meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and Mac and cheese along with the catfish and fried okra. Everything was absolutely delicious!! The meatloaf was tender and juicy. The mashed potatoes were seasoned perversely. The catfish was crunchy and flavorful. I can't wait to visit this place again.

Another great experience at Mr C's! Wait staff took care of 4 adults and 1 toddler with a great sense of service and sprinkled with fun. Just realized tonight that not only is the food fantastic, but they have a full bar as well! The manager stopped by to see that we got all our food and that we were happy with both food and service. Husband started with fried gizzards, then blackened catfish and he loved them both. Our daughter had breakfast for dinner and those pancakes with banana and caramel sauce looked fabulous. Our other daughter and I stuck with the fantastic tender and juicy chicken! If you like cabbage, you will LOVE Mr C's cabbage; truly best in SA (maybe even TX)!Causal atmosphere so you feel right at home.

GOOD GOLLY!! Really... GOOD golly!! This southern gem has hooked me!! The decor is so cute with all their southern"isms" reminds me of a coffee mug I had that said, "Kiss my southern sass!"Started with the fried green tomato appetizer.. cornmeal crusted fried green tomatoes! Best I've ever had (outside of my mamma's)!! If you are with a group I recommend the fried green tomatoes and the onion rings for the appetizer. We ordered way too much but only because after the fried green tomatoes we wanted to taste EVERYTHING!I ordered the 2 piece fried chicken with sautéed cabbage. My cousin ordered the fried catfish with mashed potatoes and gravy. Then we ordered sides!!! Potato salad, fried okra, onion rings & green beans.Our waitress swiftly took our drink order and brought out the most beautiful Mason jar of fresh iced tea! The fried green tomatoes were perfection! Perfectly cornmeal breaded and fried until tomato was the perfect consistency. Everything was cooked perfect except the okra was a tiny bit salt.The fried chicken was juicy and plain southern.. no extra stuff in the batter to make it spicy or sweet or anything other than southern fried chicken.The fried catfish was cornmeal crusted!!! FINALLY, true southern catfish. It was well seasoned and fried to flaky! This will now be my go to for southern fried catfish... now if only they had hush puppies! But I digress...The sides... lord the sides... the sautéed cabbage is the best I have ever had... even better than my own! It has ALL the southern in it! We agreed it was our favorite thing we tasted! The red potato salad was very good, the green beans were delicious as well! My personal least favorite were the fried okra and the mashed potatoes with cream gravy. The okra is flour breaded which is not terrible but I like a little more cornmeal in my okra batter and it needed a bit less salt. The mashed potatoes were delicious according to my cousin, I'm not much of a mashed potato eater so they are not included in my overall review. And... don't be fooled... I ate the okra! Fried okra is my favorite so trust me it wasn't terrible... it just wasn't my favorite.Now... what is going on with their banana pudding?!?! Do they make their own vanilla wafers or do they have a secret baker somewhere because... the nilla wafers I get are no where near those babies!! The pudding is like crack... I could not stop eating if even if I was about to pop!I will be back! Again and again! PS... I sure would love to see some Lima beans, purple hull peas and hush puppies on the menu!

A casual, clean and friendly spot with very well seasoned food. We tried a large variety off the menu. The chicken was absolutely delicious. Made to order, large pieces, crispy, juicy and so much flavor! We cleaned every piece until there was nothing left. Cabbage is a must try but you won't be disappointed in the greens, yams or Mac either. I don't like cornbread however, this was fluffy, moist and extra sweet. Portions are huge, especially on the meatloaf. Price is very reasonable for the Alamo ranch area. My only negative would be the waffles were spongy - more like a pancake. Needed to be on the iron a little longer. We had pecan and strawberry both worth the $1.00 upgrade. Expect a longer wait when ordering chicken because of cook time.

Food was great! Our server was new but did a good job. Very sweet young lady!! Looking forward to my next visit.

Enjoyed a brunch with my beautiful wife and super intelligent daughter. Our daughter brought along our amazing grandson and we all enjoyed a wonderful brunch together. My first time having chicken and waffles and it was sensational! Service was above and beyond. Very clean, quiet, and homey atmosphere. I'll be back, baby!!

Food was awesome along with the service and atmosphere.The restaurant and bathrooms were very clean.The chicken was really delicious, well seasoned and juicy.Would recommend!!
