**Experience during COVIDAs a new Texan, everyone has told me that I had to try authentic Barbacoa and tamales! After a quick yelp search, I ended up at Morenita Barbacoa! As someone who did not know what to expect, I can tell you I was floored by everything I got! The barbacoa was was perfectly tender and flavorful! The meat paired perfectly with the spicy salsa that I got. They also offer tamales (pork, chicken, cheese&bean), and I caved and got a dozen pork tamales. These were absolutely delicious! They were much bigger than other tamales I have gotten at other places and chock full of flavor. The owner and family were also so nice. They took the time to explain to answer all of my questions and got my order ready within minutes of placing my order. For a 1lbs. of barbacoa, a dozen tamales, 2 salsas, and a pack of tortillas, it was about $25 which I thought was cheaper than other places I looked at! FYI, they are cash only! Tamales are sold by the dozen and barbacoa is sold by the pound. If you are around the area, I'd highly recommend stopping by this spot!

If you want authentic Mexican food this is your place. Please give them a try. The barbacoa is the best in San Antonio. Not greasy like other places, tamales in a variety of flavors. I've met the owner and she is someone who appreciates your visit. Even the actor from stranger things came to visit and had her first try of barbacoa. She loved it.

If you're lookin for delicious, AUTHENTIC, homemade style tamales this is the best place in town! They are the perfect ratio of masa to meats! The tamales are not greasy and the size is perfect! One of the tamales from Morenita Barbacoa is equal to 2-3 tamales from most tamale shops in town.... and basically for the same pricing... what a deal!!! The barbacoa is also amazing!! And not to mention the owner and her family running the place! Super sweet and humble!! Best place in town, give it a try you won't regret it!!!

This place was recommended by my cousin's wife; the barbacoa and pork tamales are the tastiest I have ever had. The tamales are thick, meaty, and very flavorful. Too bad they are only open on Weekends and close early; oh, and also only accept cash. Food is worth it.

I have been going to this location for our annual Christmas tamales for several years The tamales are so good that we even buy them when it is not the holidays. They are not skimpy with the meat they put inside. They are very tasty, and juicy - not dry. Their menudo and barbacoa is also good. If you try this place you will not be disappointed.

It was my first time there at Morenita. It was more expensive than my regular place that I normally buy my Barbacoa. It was still another place to buy breakfast items such as Menudo, barbacoa, tamales and tortillasArrive early or wait in line.
