I came in at around 6:30am on a Saturday and was greeted by the gentleman tending the cash register and he was very kind. We exchanged pleasantries and then he went into explaining each pastry they had for sale. I'm not much familiar with Puerto Rican culture or foods nor do I speak Spanish so he was very patient with my ignorance. Each item sounded just as great as the last and they're all offered in varying sizes. I ended up buying 2 breakfast sandwiches, an Apple Star, a guava puff pastry, and the seasonal cream cheese stuffed puff pastry as well as a pumpkin iced coffee. My total (before tip) was around $45 which I believe was very reasonable for the amount of food I got. Portion sizes are very generous. The price to size for the breakfast sandwiches far beat something you can get at a fast food establishment. Everything was packed very well and secured for my trip back home and nothing slid around. They even packed us 2 free bags of chips and a kind passage from the Bible (despite I'm not religious, I appreciate the gesture). My fiancée and I loved every piece of food there and it really started our day off well. My single minor critique was that the guava puff pastry had a slight hint of a soapy taste but that may just be from a single mixing bowl that was not rinsed out enough before used for baking. That does not soil my experience by any means though and we will be returning to try more menu items!

A family-owned business that serves a nice simple, lunch. I had the ham and cheese sandwich. The bread was homemade, the ham was tasty, and I had the choice of three different cheeses. The space was pleasant and the one worker was friendly (other workers were preparing the food in the kitchen).

Adorable place. Very clean inside. Inviting. Was promptly greeted with a smile. In the photos I tried the powdered sugar things. Sorry. They were light and really good. The cookies were a miss for me and the coconut balls were good but dry. To be fair they were closing soon. The empanadas were good. Big. The salsas with them were good. Definitely would go back. Very nice people. Even their young kids were displaying their exceptional customer service.

Who knew that a Puerto Rican family had opened a bakery in Leon Valley, Texas. Well, I I did not know, but I had seen a "sign" for a bakery and I had always thought that this part of Bandera road needs a good bakery. Well, the wait is over because Mom & Son Bakery is amazing!!!The pastries are gastronomic perfection--freshly baked, flaky, crispy, with just the right balance of tropical fruit and/or cream cheese fillings. Twice I have visited and so far I have sampled a guava and cheese turnover, a Cuban sandwich and a tiny little crispy, sweet and cheesy snippet called a quesito. Everything that I have tried is delicious and I can't wait to go back for more.I love this place! The young man who runs the cash register greets every customer with a smile and a hello. You feel the warmth and neighborly spirit as soon as you walk into the bakery. And, after you place your order you receive a positive message for the day. In addition to sweet treats, there are breakfast and lunch sandwiches offered. I ordered a Cuban sandwich to go and it was a generous sized sandwich that was flavorful and good.Wait times may be just a bit long for someone on their way to work, but, go early the food is worth the wait and if you go too late in the day they tend to sell out. Also, the prices for the pastries are not displayed clearly. The bakery is open from 6 am until 2 pm, Tuesday - Saturday, but, they stop making sandwiches around 1 pm. And, like I said, go early because they sell out fast.If great food and excellent customer service matter to you and you just want to feel good in the morning, then start your day at Mom & Son Bakery. Ya'll know how we do-- you BETTER go get you some!

his was seriously such a gem to have a solo lunch today. It's a cute spot tucked away off of Bandera Rd and I immediately felt welcomed. I was given a run through of the menu and what everything is. The bread pudding tasted like love! I don't even know how to describe it. It was just so yummy and you felt the love that was put into making it. I enjoyed good conversation, food and coffee. The icing on the cake was this spot's version of a fortune cookie (sans the cookie). I didn't even realize how much I needed that.

As a fellow Puerto Rican who desperately misses the flavors of home I was extremely excited and I was NOT let down. The customer service who I think was the "son" was so kind. I do think they may need help eventually in the front because it got a bit busy for one person to get orders out and take them. Prices were reasonable! The corn meal/ harina de maíz was wonderful!!!! I'd love to see them add more to the menu and perhaps add an order of smaller / multiple surullitos since an order for them was just for one large one. Wishing them the best

The warmth of a family business is a given. You'll probably enjoy some latin jazz in the background mixed with the friendly chatter of Puerto Ricans speaking, laughing, and hanging out. This is not a fast-food. At Mom & Son Bakery, everything is fresh. MOM is actually in the kitchen preparing your food while SON takes care of the customers at the front with a big smile, sometimes even a hug. I love their sandwiches. You can order a traditional egg / ham / cheese sandwich. They also prepare the Puerto Rican "tripleta" -I guess in english you could call it a "triplet"- which refers to the three types of meat in the sandwich. In the pictures, you'll also see the Cubano sandwich. It's amazing! And they recently added a pastrami sandwich to their menu. That's my favorite now. Super delicious! The muffins - Whenever there's a potluck at work, I bring muffins from Mom & Son. I'm serious when I say that people run to get them. Options vary - chocolate, banana, lemon, coconut, cream-cheese with guava, corn bread muffins ... Mom & Son likes to get creative here. So, when you visit, if something sounds interesting to you, take it immediately. It may or may not be available the next day. Quesito (in english, "little cheese") - It's cream-cheese wrapped in puff pastry. They're extremely popular in Puerto Rico. In the pictures you'll see the regular-size quesito. And they also offer the small, bite-sized quesito as well. And again, Mom & Son got creative and came up with different versions: quesito with bacon, quesito with guava, and the quesito with bacon and jalapeño.... and I could keep going ...I eat lunch at Mom & Son Bakery around once per week. I like everything! The coffee is good. I love that Malta India is also available. The "Tres Leches" cakes... The cheesecakes... The Puerto Rican bread pudding... In the pictures you'll see the "pastelillo de carne" (ground-beef fried turnovers)... and their "sorullitos de maiz" (cornmeal fritters with a bit of cheese inside) are the best that I've ever eaten! The bakery is now opening from Monday to Saturday, from 6 am to 2 pm, but the kitchen stops preparing sandwiches at 1 pm. Give this bakery a try. You will not be disappointed.
