It has been a while since we have eaten here.. but it is just as good as I remember. The portions are generous and flavorful. The service is always quick and they keep your drinks full. The only downside is the place is always cold inside, not a huge deal just something to be aware of.

I've been coming to this San Antonio Chinese classic restaurant for the better part of a decade and it never fails to miss. Every time I come, the service is impeccable, timely, and efficient. They have some of the best customer service I've seen in any restaurant. This last time I ordered an appetizer of the sesame calamari with the sesame chicken early bid special and it was beyond amazing. For the price, you're truly getting a bang for your buck. The egg drop soup was savory, creamy, and crunchy with the wontons and their fried rice is some of the best in the game. The white meat chicken is tender and juicy. Major shout out to my waitress who was super attentive since I drink a ton of water and didn't miss a beat. The decor and setting is also intimate and cozy. I will definitely be returning soon.10/10

Mencius has been on our list for a long to time visit, and we finally made it. A staple Chinese restaurant in the Medical Center area of SATX Mencius is worthy of a visit, and if you live in the area, would be a great take-out or go-to stop when you're in the mood for Asian food.On our visit, we were seated quickly, and our waiter was quick with service. He brought us water and hot tea promptly. The tea cups are larger than most Asian restaurants, so we went through a pot of tea during our meal and were brought more as soon as it was needed.Although the restaurant is in a strip mall, there was a nice size dining area with a cozy ambiance. It was a Friday night, and we stopped in fairly early, so there were not many other patrons there when we arrived, but soon the room started to fill up.We ordered eggrolls and shrimp toast as starters. The eggrolls weren't my favorite in town, but they were still good and full of filling. The shrimp toast was wonderful and did not disappoint. For the main course, we ordered Mongolian beef and teriyaki beef. They were a little similar, but the Mongolian beef was sweeter with lots of mushrooms and snow peas. The teriyaki beef had a wonderful sauce with green onions and fried rice noodles. We ordered our meals with fried rice. Although the rice was good, again, it was not my favorite in town. There were no vegetables in the rice that you often find in other establishments, like carrots and peas, but there was a bit of egg.Overall, for the price, the meal was pleasant and tasty. We don't live in the area, so we may not visit often, but we will be back.

We ordered the sesame chicken, general tso & combo fried rice while at the hospital down the street with DoorDash and I'm so glad I did! Service and food being ready was super quick, food was delicious and I already can't wait to order again! Next time I'd love to go into the restaurant & sit down during their lunch special time.

I was there for lunch, and this place gets packed, so be patient. We sat about 20 mins later which is not terrible but if you have a tight lunch schedule this is probably not the spot for you. Once we were seated, a waiter promptly took our order and brought drinks. The server was very attentive. Food took a while to get there, which is understandable due to how full the place was. Food was great, all food orders were accurate and everyone enjoyed their meal. They have plenty of options for their lunch special, which comes with fried rice and an egg roll. I had the triple delight and it was very tasty. A solid option for Chinese food.

I ordered for pickup one night. The girl who answered my phone wanted to know if I wanted the early bird special or full dinner. Being that it was dinner time, I ordered the full dinner. We were hungry and didn't want to end up with a lunch portion. She did not tell me the total, only that my order would be ready in 20 minutes. I did see the menu on the website so I had an idea of the prices. 4 entrees, which included steamed or fried rice came out to $54.02, no tip, drinks or even and egg roll. I feel like that's a bit pricey? Ok, inflation and what not. I guess. The parking spots in the front are reserved for pickup orders and are in the shade. Yay! There is a pickup counter where the staff sets down prepares the to-go orders. I noticed one of the employees inspecting a bag and crossing things off of the receipt to ensure everything was correct and included. I appreciate this so much!!!The food itself is delicious. I had the chicken with garlic sauce. The chicken was perfect, complimented with carrots, mushrooms and water chestnuts. The sauce was spicy and garlicky and just perfect. At first glance, it doesn't seem like a lot of food but I was stuffed by the end of the meal. Now that I'm past the sticker shock of the meal, I'll definitely be back. Maybe I'll just get the early bird special next time.

Yesterday, after a day filled with doctor's appointments and lab draws, we wanted to relax and have a great meal so we went to Mencius. Food was wonderful and "JR" was awesome as always. On a side note - music is normally "low" and in the background. It might be soft rock or easy listening. During this visit, it was louder than usual, rather distracting and was hard rock or head banging or heavy metal.A polite suggestion to management - - look at your customers.Are they in their 20's or 60's?Is there a walker or a cane at their table?Are they having to lean toward others at the table to hear the conversation?Thank you for your time and consideration.
