Melvin's Homemade Ice Cream & Espresso Bar

If you love ice cream, come give the place a try! The girl serving the ice cream hooked it up.I asked for 2 scoops and the scoops were enough to fill a typical pint of ice cream. The girl also helped me pick based on customer feedback and also gave the option to sample the ice creams.My gf had the coffee which she enjoyed.The place is part of Max & Louie's where she assured us if we were to go inside, we could sit down and order from our table. You could hear the typical chatter from Max & Louie's. Melvin's side of the spot has about 4-5, 2 chair tables. They also have a set of drinks and desserts to go in a mini fridge.A well lit space with bright colored paint with a vibrant logo continues the diner feel of Max & Louie's.

Our cousin and her friend flew into San Antonio this morning for a weekend on the Riverwalk. We picked them up at the airport and took them for brunch at Max and Louie's. We sat there for at least three hours enjoying the always delicious food, always wonderful service, and catching up with each other. On the way to the car, my wife pointed to a door and said, "We should all get some ice cream!" Now, I am always down for some ice cream (don't tell my doctor!). We walked in, and I could immediately tell this place was related to Max and Louie's. Then, we saw a door that we could have used to come directly from our table in the dining room to this pleasant little venue. Although they had lots of goodies from the bakery, we were there for ice cream. They had several flavors, all homemade. I opted for a half scoop of Mal-O-Mar and a half scoop of sweet potato pie. Both of them were super delicious, but the Mal-O-Mar made my toes curl up! The server told us that they had New York ice cream served Texas-sized. Believe me, what they call a scoop is about the same as two or three at any other place.As we were talking and finishing our treats, a gentleman came up behind me and started talking with our group and asking what we thought of the ice cream. I turned around and asked him if he was Melvin. He told me that he was Melvin's son and Louie's grandson. I now know that he is the actual owner of Max and Louie's and Melvin's. What an honor to get to meet him. My favorite dessert at Max and Louie's is the confetti cake. From now on, I will eat my meal, go next door, and have my confetti cake with a scoop of ice cream. Once again... Do not tell my doctor! In fact, since I might just stop there weekly on my way home from my photo taking adventures, do not tell my wife, either!

A small addition to Max&Louie's restaurant. They specialize in desserts and coffee. They have lactose free and gluten free ice cream options. The ice cream is homemade in house and comes in generous scoop sizes with the option to have a milkshake. Cheesecakes, cookies, and cupcakes are also served. The place is clean with a few seats available both inside and out. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Melvin's was a great stop if you're looking to grab some delicious coffee and a pastry or quick breakfast on the go. The food is freshly made everyday and one can tell. I ordered the Canadian bacon and cheese croissant which was buttery, flaky, full of flavor and made you want to go back for more. I ordered an iced caramel latte which was delicious but the winner here was their freshly made orange juice. If you like pulp I recommend you try it, the earlier you get there you can buy them as soon as they are done being made. The service was okay, I think because it was fairly new they were still learning the machine but that doesn't take away from the great food they provide.

The ice cream was amazing ! We got the chance to grab a couple cones before we left San Antonio. Unfortunately we were running short on time but on our next visit we will be going down the hall to Max and Louie's to try the French toast! Luckily we ran into the owners and they could tell us a little bit about the history of the restaurant. The food and service quality was truly exceptional, I can't wait to come back.

I grabbed the sweet potato doughnut this morning after my walk. It's literally the best doughnut I've ever had. It has a crispy sugar crust that is amazing, and the texture of the doughnut is pretty executed. Can't wait to go in another day for ice cream and a coffee.

Stopped in for some ice cream and coffee after a comedy show. Even at 9P, we were immediately greeted with a big hello. Cute little shop with all clean tables. Menu was fairly simple, but we ordered 2 affogatos off menu with no problem and they were making shakes for the restaurant next door. Very good ice cream and really friendly staff. Thanks for a great end to a great day.

During our trip here we were served excellent food with fast service. I would recommend anyone come and eat here.
