For some reason any restaurant opened at this spot does not have a good faith or I would say a good chef?I always like to have buttermilk in a Indian restaurant and I was happy to see this on the menu and tried it. It was very very salty and the taste was ok but would have been better with less salt. 2/5Kothu parrota - 2/5 all the spices have to be spitted out while eating the parrota. It's not a peace of mind and taste. The parrota didn't taste great in taste either and the chutney served with it is bland.Rava masala dosa - 1/5 not cooked properly or rightMasala dosa -3/5 out of all the dishes this was a little better. The chutneys were ok and not that great.Dahi vada - the vada inside the dahi was not at all cooked. The worst dish overall 0/5.I was told the chef working here was an ex chef in sarvana bhavan and was excited to try this place but totally disappointed. The employees were fine and the place was neatly maintained. The environment was fine.

Bhavan! This is a veggie place right next to the Medical Center. It's authentically Indian, I asked- they're from Southern India. When I went, it seems that it was right at closing time. I reconsidered asking for a meal right at closing time, but was met at the door by an enthusiastic gentleman who worked there and he encouraged me to come in. I looked over the menu and saw that I didn't really know anything on the menu, so I just looked puzzled. The dude said that he had the perfect dish for me, and to sit down and wait. The restaurant obviously used to be something else, like a sports bar. They have a wonderful patio that looks under-used. There's places for big screen televisions, but they probably ain't gonna show the Spurs. The food was, well, confusing. I wasn't sure what was a dish, what was a condiment. There was no rhyme or reason to the food- some was herbal and fresh, some was spicy. Some was mushy in texture, some was liquid. I had no idea what I was eating. It was more or less delicious, as I was hungry. It'd be nice if they translated things on the menu for the American diners. I have no idea what it was- all I know is that it was vegetarian.

I went to have a thali and I hoped that a pure veg restaurant will have a good veg thali . They had one curry , one gravy and kurma . One poori and two gravy curries that were not tasting that good either. The alu curry was not a fry nor cooked it was really bad . Sambar has so much turmeric and no salt and rasam tasted overpowering with hing . No fried appetizer no flavored rice and Appalam was soggy . Rava kesari was burnt all on top . Most dissatisfied thali I had . When I tried to tell that I didn't enjoy my food I was asked if I was from andhra almost implying that Thai could be Tamil food and so I didn't enjoy it . I am half Tamil half telugu and I enjoy both food equally so it was not a professional response . And the restaurant manager also said that usually there is no dal in any thali he has seen when I asked if there was dal . That kind of sums up their customer service .

We could tell that all the food was freshly made. Pongal and parathas were especially delicious. Food tasted just like we would find in a traditional home. Good options for kids to. The owner was super friendly. We came here for our last meal out of the year on NYE to end the year well. A highlight for us for sure on our trip to Texas.

This is my FIRST STOP for any out of town guests or family/friends. I absolutely LOVE Meenakshi Bhavan. As someone who eats there at least 3-4x/month, I've enjoyed delicious Indian food & impeccable service every time. They are extremely accommodating with any special requests regarding spices or wanting more chutney, sambar, etc. And to top it all off, as a Vegetarian, I NEVER need to worry about my food being cooked in the same oil as meat. So, perhaps give it a go yourself--while not ignoring the other reviews--but also knowing that someone else finds this place FANTASTIC.

We live in San Antonio, Texas and it is so hard to find a decent vegetarian place to eat out. So thankful that this restaurant is here now. It is a great place for south Indian vegetarian food. We have tried mini idlis, ghee roast dosa, meenakshi bhavan special dosa, vegetable biryani so far and they all are authentic, delicious and fresh. Must try!
