Next message was a picture where our pizzas were left outside somewhere. By the time we found them, there were ants in the boxes.
Text from delivery driver saying security wouldn't let him in (they knew he was coming, so no idea what happened).

Mattenga's is definitely our go-to for pizza pick up. They have fast and easy online ordering and generally the pizza is ready for pickup within 20 minutes. The staff are always friendly and professional.I love the doughy pillowy crust and the thin pizza. It's just perfect and it always works, even when you eat it cold the next day. They also use a really delicious dairy free cheese for those on the fam with dairy allergies. It's so good, I often opt for it, just because. If you've never tried them, go, now. I don't think you'll regret it!

The only complaint I have is that I don't have a big enough stomach to hold all of the things I wanted to try all at once.We came in and got a whole pizza - half Pothole (sausage, roasted red bell peppers, ricotta cheese, and hot honey) and half Honey Bexar (pepperoni, jalapeño, and hot honey) - and it was amazing. I saw that they had cannoli shells and I had every intention of trying them but I didn't get to yet, because I absolutely could not stop eating the delicious pizza. Also, the caprese salad looked good... so many things I want to try, I guess I just will need to come back! The space is comfortable and welcoming, nothing too fancy, and honestly that's exactly the vibe I'm looking for at a good pizza place. No gimmicks, just great food. Also, the staff was all really nice and attentive, even when some interesting customers rolled through and weren't the easiest to talk to. Obviously, I'm going to be back, and I'm sure that I'm going to be just as thrilled. Note to self, save room for dessert.

In my exploration of San Antonio Pizza, I feel like I have discovered a new favorite haunt! We went in to Mattenga's for our standard choice of pizza, since that's what we wanted, and saw pictures of the Honey Bexar; pizza with pepperoni, jalapeños, and hot honey. The restaurant itself seemed like a very chill place to eat at! Very clean & fun, friendly atmosphere! The amazing staff was so freaking awesome, friendly & accommodating. It sounded so intriguing, I was not able to resist, and I was not disappointed in the least. I'm so glad we chose to try both! The Honey Bexar is so good! The pepperoni & jalapeños are both enhanced & muted by the hot honey (which isn't actually very hot, but it really does have warmth!) & cheese combo. It was not just unusually complex for typical pizza, but very, very craveable! Our standard (pepperoni/cheese combo) was also fantastic! Crust was great! The ingredients were delish! I like forward to trying the rest of the menu!

This is one of my favorite local pizza, shops! Highly recommend getting anything on the menu. Our usual order consists of a large pepperoni pizza, six piece Parmesan wings, six piece signature flavor, wings, and breadsticks. Sounds like a lot, but it is our usual order. We save pizza leftovers and reheat it the next day in the air fryer. Also, the service is always on point. Great vibes here.

Oh Mattengas - how we love your pizza. How we love your different types of ranches. How we love your wings. Mattengas pizza is just different in a GREAT way. I think it's the sauce. It just tastes great and not the same of other pizza places. Go check them out. Get some pizza. Get some wings. Try the ranches.

My sons and I are trying a new pizza place every other weekend. Today we tried Mattenga's Pizzeria. The service was friendly and the food was really good. We got the Pothole which includes sausage and ricotta and hot honey and some red chili peppers of some sort. We also got a brisket roll which was good, and their version of the meat lovers (I forget what it's called). Good crust, good cheese, good toppings. For all the food we got, the price seemed reasonable. Some places...just some small things would do great things. For example, the table "cloth" at our table was sun bleached. The upholstery at the big round table is in need of repair/replacement. But overall, I absolutely am likely to return.

Having read alot of the great reviews of this pizzeria, I finally had a chance to stop in for take-out and try it myself. Unfortunately, my anticipation started to fade after I peaked inside the box. I ordered a pepperoni and half-mushroom pizza and if first appearances are telling, I was not all that impressed with the pie. It was visually flat, and resembled a frozen pizza. The taste was okay, and the dough on the edges was good. However the mushrooms seemed to be grounded up and spread very lightly and honestly, it was difficult to know that it even had mushrooms. As well, the pepperoni was not particularly flavorful or spicy. The price point was a little high at $20 for a medium with 1 1/2 toppings, but not surprising nowadays. The service was friendly enough, despite not being offered napkins, parmesan or pepper flakes until I asked for them... and they were out of parmesan.I may stop in again and try other toppings, just for my own sanity, but I'm not in any hurry either.

One of the best calzones I've ever had!I've only ever heard good things about Mattenga's and have been itching to go, and finally went with a small group after a morning at the Pearl Farmer's Market. This pizza was PHENOMENAL and I look forward to going again! The store itself wasn't anything special and very much felt like a casual, hole in the wall diner. It was quiet when we went and we placed our order with the very sweet server who brought out our pizza and calzone surprisingly fast. She checked in a couple of times with us to make sure we were doing alright and was just wonderful through and through. We weren't sure if she was the only one working as we didn't see anyone else, but if she was her pizza making skills were just as amazing.I ordered a Calzone with Mushrooms, Olives, and Spinach, and though I was certain I wouldn't be able to finish it upon seeing how big it was when it came out, I made room for this heavenly lunch. The ricotta cheese was SO good and paired excellently with the gooey mozzarella. There was so much cheese with every bite but it wasn't greasy or oily, something my more sensitive stomach appreciated immensely. The crust was super thick and soft, pulling apart easily but holding all of the delicious toppings inside. There was an equal ratio between all of the veggies and you could tell they were super fresh. The Calzone also came with two cups of yummy spiced Marinara and though it was delicious without the sauce, I did use one of the cups because it was just too good to pass up on. Though my fiancé is not a calzone fan, he really enjoyed the bites he tried of it and said he may get one of his own next time with his favorite toppings. This time around however, he ordered a slice of Pepperoni Pizza and though pepperoni pizza is a more middle of the road option for me, I loved the couple of bites he let me have of his slice. The Pepperoni wasn't overwhelmed by spices, a complaint I sometimes have with other pepperoni pizzas, but had a really good combination of spices that worked well with the meat. The cheese was fantastic and though we are not normally thin crust fans, this Pizza Slice was the exception. The crust on this Pepperoni Pizza was also soft, but it wasn't soggy from the sauce or cheese and held everything just fine. Mattenga's is an easy five stars for me and I highly recommend it for those looking for a good pizza with a relaxed atmosphere.

I have to say, I was quite impressed with Mattenga's! I heard/saw on social media they had won "best pizza" in San Antonio this year for the 2nd yr in a row. I had to go see for myself! It was quite a mission because we arrived way earlier than they opened (our fault) so we waited outside. Then, once we ordered they kindly informed us that the wait time would be long due to a large pending order. We still ordered and we actually got our order fairly quick. I mentioned all that, to say it was definitely worth the wait!!! We both ordered personal size pizzas. My hubby ordered the Big Matt which was like a hamburger (the Big Mac) pizza, it has cheese sauce, tomatoes, onion, beef, bacon, pickle relish and topped with thousand island dressing, a first for me and I enjoyed it so much! I ordered the Santa Fe which had pepperoni, bacon and hatch green chilis which gave it a tangy/zesty kick! I Loved both!! I couldn't wait until we got home so I devoured a few slices from each pizza on the drive home! lol. Safe to say they get my vote for next year as well, for best pizza in San Antonio! The crust/dough was a highlight without a doubt! It's airy but soft, moist and just perfect! I'm craving it again now! We will definitely be trying some of the other specialty pizzas and also the wings! Thanks Mattenga's for a great experience and delicious pizza!
