Stumbled upon a GEM here in San Antonio 10 out of 10 overall experience from the service to the drinks to the food. We walked in at just the right time and got 2 seats at the bar on a Saturday with a 45 min wait. It was meant to be Bella and Diego provided us with a Michelin star experience. My GOODNESS Hunny the margaritas are like no other the taste accompanied with the generous pour OooooWeeeee!!!. HUNNY the cooks in the kitchen are not playing around our food was out in no time we had just the right amount of time to enjoy their in house made salsa and chips. The flavors are authentic to the culture. Y'all they even have homemade tortillas. Rather you are a local or visiting Maria Bonita is an unforgettable experience and a MUST!!!! We will be coming back to San Antonio just to visit Bella and Diego and enjoy the ambiance drinks and food at Maria Bonita.

For lunch today, my wife and I went back to Maria Bonita - right in our neighborhood in SA. The last time we ate the food from here was a take away dinner 2 1/2 years ago. We actually went in this time and boy, the changes are very positive indeed! The place was jumping and lots of people waiting to get seated. We waited for 10 minutes and got our table. Our server came to get our drinks and our chips and salsa followed. The service is well paced. Soon as we ordered our food, we worked on the chips and salsa. Soon as we got to the end, voila, our entrees showed up. The food was hot and delicious. I believe that this place has upped their food quality from the last time we ate here. We don't drink alcohol so we skipped that but, they had a list of available drinks 2 pages long on their menu. Going back to the food, my wife's choice was the cheese enchiladas and she loved it. The flavor is different and tastier - perhaps better quality cheese was used in the enchiladas. She enjoyed it and ate it up. For me, I wanted fish so I ordered their salmon entree. I ordered mine medium and it came back the right way. It was perfectly cooked to my liking. The fish was fresh and the buttered rice and spinach were great compliments to the fish dish. My only complaint would be that the fish was a little too salty for my taste. However, the next time I come back for that dish, and I will go back, I'll ask them to be easy on the salt. Maria Bonita used to be La Fonda Oak Hills and my wife's family had eaten there hundreds of times over the course of 50 years! The inside and the ambiance still has the La Fonda feel to it but it's not the same. Nevertheless, nostalgia is good to have when dining at one of the most revered restaurants in Oak Hills. Maria Bonita is slowly but surely is taking the revered status of its predecessor. I'm so glad of that!Overall, this is a great place to eat food because they care about their customers. When the quality of the food that is served is upgraded, that is a very good thing! We will be back again - hopefully sooner than 2 years!

Whether you're into margaritas, mezcal, or micheladas, the flights let you explore a variety of flavors in one go. We've found a few favorites this way, and it's great for sharing.Maria Bonita continues to impress us with every visit. If you're looking for great food, drinks, and a fun vibe, this is the place!

My cousin brags about this place so I figure I'd give it a try. I started off with a flight, which was delicious. However, the cucumber drink had mezcal and I was not expecting that. We were served chips while we browsed the menu and they were so tasty that we probably went through 3 baskets . I ordered the dish that served 2 cheese enchiladas and a side of fajitas. The enchiladas were very tasty, the rice was average and so were the fajitas. Overall, food was ok, service was good, and there was a cutie pie manager that made for nice eye candy

The food is pretty mid all around. The queso was okay. The salsas weren't. No flavor whatsoever. The green one at least had some kick to it. The flautas were okay. The churros were hard as a rock. Not really understanding the overall good reviews or how this place is so busy when there are way better options out there.

Food & drinks are excellent, service is friendly.Fajitas m enchiladas are the best. Margaritas are excellent! We had our wedding reception in the party room and the experience was fabulous.

I would like to give this restaurant 3.5 stars, but I can't justify 4 stars. We visited on a slow Saturday afternoon (3ish) and we sat at the bar. We were promptly greeted and the bar tender/waitress took our drink order. Other servers dropped off our drinks and then she never came back to check on us. After 15 minutes we had to reach out to her to place our food order. Mind you, it's not like she was overwhelming busy. She had time to check her phone. It was just odd because we were in close proximity to a lot of the staff considering we were sitting at the bar. Food: It was good. My friend's order was not done correctly, they brought the requested side and it was still wrong. Overall, it was decent.Drinks: They were excellent. All of my drinks were fantastic. Overall, it was a decent experience. The second time we ordered drinks for some reason they took an extremely long time to get them (maybe over 15 minutes.) Maybe we went on an off day. We may give it a second chance.

Great service, beautiful place, lively ambiance. We went for lunch on a Saturday and we did not know they had Brunch going on. We were initially bummed out because we wanted to try their dinner menu but we decided to just go with it and I'm glad we did. They have plenty of options to chose from. The drinks were very tasty and the food was delightful. I will happily come back and try their dinner menu.

Great food and service. Authentic Mexican flavor. Staff are very friendly and the ambience makes you feel you are in Mexico. Great live mariachi music curtesy of the house.
