The air conditioner in Peg's car had sprung a leak, so after we dropped it at the garage, we made our way into San Antonio for a Costco run and a visit to Man Pasand. My Yelp buddy, Adam, was FTR for this store and if he liked it, I figured I would, too. And indeed I did--a lot!I read reviews for the stores in Austin and Houston and almost changed my mind about visiting. "Dirty," "products out of date" and "rude employees" were consistent among the three stores. But this store has only been open since January of this year; surely it couldn't have deteriorated in that short a time. Thankfully, it hadn't.The store is clean, no off-putting aromas wafting around; so far, so good. The shelves were well-stocked and yes, I did a cursory check of about fifty items--all for you, Gentle Reader!--and not one had expired. A sure tell-tale sign of old stock is accumulated dust; none was found. They also had a nice vegetable section, everything was fresh--imagine that! There are three items that I have searched for every time I've visited an Indian grocery: Anand brand Kerala Mix (a snack food), Famous brand rose water (the real thing, made from honest to God roses, not artificial essence) and Karachi Bakery's (my first go-to place every time I visited Hyderabad) Osmania Biscuits, sort of like shortbread. Man Pasand had all three!!! Plus every employee I encountered was kind and helpful. So, Five stars for the grocery! But as mentioned by other reviewers, there's a food court. Coming in, I noticed two hand-written signs posted: "Veg Thali today" and "Dosas." Poor Peg, she almost slipped on my drool while making our way into the court at the back of the store! The first thing that I noticed was row after row of sticky notes favorably commenting on the food--okay, we're off to a good start!I figured that a thali for each of us and a shared Mysore Dosa would satisfy us and for good measure I added a couple of mango lassis. The young couple who run the court are very charming and will take the time to explain the dishes. But I knew what we wanted; order and pay at the front and nothing left to do but wait for the food. If there's one negative, it's the wait for the food. The thalis came out fairly rapidly but we were about half way through before the lassis arrived and almost through when the dosa hit the table. But the food was worth the wait. This isn't restaurant food, it's home cooking. And it's not "white people Indian food," it's made for Indians. Now this doesn't mean it's scorching hot with peppers; it's not. Well, at least not to me; Peg, Yankee girl that she is, said the biryani was a bit much for her but she was a trooper and kept eating--and with her hands!!! That's my girl!!!The thali consisted of a beautifully seasoned vegetable biryani (rice), sambar (vegetable soup) and Bund Gobhi Aur Aloo Ki Subzi, a dry curry of potatoes and cabbage (deceptively simple, wonderfully flavorful). The thalis were accompanied by a papadum (crisp wafer made from gram flour) and chapatis (like a whole wheat tortilla--but better). The dosa (think crispy crepe made with a fermented rice and lentil batter; has a flavor reminiscent of Parmesan) was perfectly cooked and the "gunpowder" (a spice mixture common to South India) added great flavor and a bit of a crunch. The accompanying tomato and coconut chutneys were stand-outs. And soon they will offer appam, Kerala's take on a dosa made with rice flour and coconut milk. Finally, the mango lassis where thankfully devoid of sugar, which is so common in Western countries--yogurt and mango, that's it. Couldn't be better! Adam, Sunay (Mumbai street food!) and Venu, you guys gotta try it! Indeed, I would encourage all Yelpers who enjoy Indian food to descend upon this place in droves!!! A great store and wonderful little restaurant, all in one; who could ask for more? You can be sure Peg and I will be back the next time we're in the Big City!

Check the expiration dates! I bought a jar of Laxmi Mint Chutney last week and it expired 11 months ago (Oct 2018)!I got wrappers for samosas too and they were the worst. They were all stuck together in the package, which is probably a storage condition issue on their part, like they were thawed and then refrozen or something. I did get some of them pried apart, but then they all broke during cooking. Worthless. Their prices are also too high. That tiny jar of expired chutney was $3.29! Their other prices are also 10-20% higher than the competitors. Do yourself a favor and just go across the highway to Ali Baba, while the health inspector pays Man Pasand a visit. Lesson learned!

The samosas I got from here today are less spicy! As predicted, more delicious(to my palate)! Not sure if the owners or someone at the store saw my past review, but I appreciate having a less spicy version of the samosas.

Man Pasand International Food Market have several stores in Texas. This is just one location. We alway drive past this store when in San Antonio. With an open weekend, we decided to drive down and explore it. I was pleasantly surprised with the varied selection of Indian fare. I was amazed at the many varieties of rice in their inventory. There were so many brands representing so many countries that I was too embarrassed to video the rice isle! If you plan to create something new, something international for the family, you need to check out this store. I was surprised to find out a coworker drives 50 miles just to shop at this store. As usual, make sure you check expiration dates on products. This is a video of our Man Pasand excursion.https://youtu.be/J0yORFXHhpMCheers!

I thought this was a very well stocked, neat grocery. I will be coming back instead of trying to find ingredients on Amazon.
