Pull up in the parking lot located next to a gas station. It's not everything you look at, but it's the inside that counts!! Step inside to cases of Mexican pastries, sure to please any sweet tooth!! The empanadas (camoté aka pumpkin) are the best from here! They have loads and loads of sweet options. But honestly, the fresh empanadas are what make me detour or drive here in general!!! Service is straightforward & friendly, prices are typical for a Mexican bakery & honestly, probably much cheaper than they should be. Pick out what you want from the over 7 cases full of sweets and be on your merry way! If you're going to a gathering, this is the BEST place to stop at first! Ask for a box and start filling it up! Don't forget about the delicious cookies. So much to choose from and nothing will be a bad choice!! It will be worth the $20-$25 and will be enough for an entire group! Oh, and they have milk too, by the gallon or a personal size if you want to start the party as soon as you get to your car! Ha! Support this local, long standing, consistently delicious Mexican bakery. You won't be disappointed!

You will not find anything better around the San Antonio and Austin area. All the bread taste so delicious. The place is very clean, they cover the bread very well, and wear gloves to handle the money. The staff is courteous and friendly. I come to the culebra location every time I come to SA and so far I haven't gotten disappointed. I'd really recommend this place if you real want to taste the great flavor of Mexican bread and pastries.

Sweet bread and service was great but ambiance was a little dirty. Or somehow getting rid of all the flies would feel less dirty.

This is a place that I come back to periodically to enjoy the amazing things that made my heart sing as a child. My grandmother used to bring me here to this very location frequently and it's still the same. You can't say that about many places.Clean and the cookies and pastries are always delicious and a piece of home life for me. I also have carried on the tradish way of my upbringing to share the happiness of the offerings here with my son as a child and my partner who is also somewhat aquatinted with a true panaderia is like.Authentic Mexican Panaderia. In the hood my family all yields from on the Westside of town untouched by the awful ways of clinical shopping centers and gentrification. This neighborhood may be rough but I like it that way.We take care of us in this community.Outsiders welcome to visit come to the barrio and have a concha or buy a amazing pack of tortillas from my gente but you can't stay.Everyone is nice here.Service is great.Being bilingual helps but if you can point and nod your good.Bring cash.Money goes far here.

La Popular bakery dots the san antonio landscape and consistently provides delicious sugary bready goodness.Low carb diets need not enter as colorful, sugar topped goodies are in full display for you to enjoy.I've been frequenting La Popular for years and have thoroughly enjoyed most of the goodies (I'm not a big fan of mexican sugar cookies besides hojarascas and wedding cookies) plus their flour tortillas are some of the best around! They're fairly priced but can add up quickly as you fill up bags of pan dulce.

Great service and selection of baked goods all wrapped up in a cute box. This was perfect to take to my doctors appointment as a thank you. Definitely recommend.

Has been our FAVORITE sweet bread place for many years. I bought A LOT of sweet bread for visiting family. While eating a sugary donut one of our guests felt movement in her mouth; spit out a piece that had a maggot worm in it. I have pictures and video. I took all the bread back to the store only to be told it was impossible and I was a liar. I just wanted my money back and brought ALL the bread back. Owner was nasty and told me he'd give me my money back but never go back there again. It's a shame. This could've gone differently. Maybe at least say they'd take a look at the shelves for cleanliness or something else. Anyway, I wouldn't be going back there to begin with after this experience.
