This location been open for several years now and they STILL don't have their act together. STILL unable to scan the QR code in the app to earn reward points. STILL full of excuses. Cashier said they are under new ownership again and have barely had their new POS computers but a few days. Since downloading the app I've been excited to redeem my free musubi. Apparently the only way to do so is to order through the app. Upon walking in the whole place was smoky, dining room and all, and it lasted through our meal and beyond. Wondering if the grill needs to be cleaned properly. BBQ chicken is different. No longer boneless filet of thigh meat that you have to cut yourself and comes in precut slices of marinated chicken thigh pieces. I'm happy with this change. Makes sense as it marinates better, so more flavor and no need to cut the meat yourself, which also cuts cost for having to give out knives every time. However this store STILL gave me a knife. Smh. My husband ordered the chicken Katsu and he also got a knife. I liked how tender the chicken was and flavorful without being overly salty and the right hint of ginger. Now let's talk about how their rice leaves much to be desired.Hands down the easiest dish to prepare and it's the weirdest thing on my plate. The texture is so far off of what a standard medium grain calrose rice should be. Maybe they're using nasty tap water and/or not cleaning the rice thoroughly before cooking. Either way, it's pretty much inedible. The mac can easily make or break your plate lunch but this store's Mac salad is so-so. Neither great nor subpar. Neither of us ate it all off our plates but not bad. A can of Hawaiian Sun will set you back $4.00 after tax. Yike! But good to have a taste of home. You know, if the food doesn't do it for you. To be honest, I would love to operate a franchise store of my own, start of movement to return dignity and a great reputation back to the name that was such a big part of my childhood and my mother's childhood, too! Good luck to this place, I hope things turn around for the better and maybe I'll stop in more than once every two years. Aloha!

Super friendly and welcoming! The katsu chicken is moist and the batter they fry in is soo tasty and crispy! The plate was packed and plentiful. White rice, as simple as it is was great. Then finally that macaroni salad... yum! Don't take my words for it, you gotta try for yourself.

Be careful in their floors; they were super slippery and they weren't wet!! Ok other than that the food was absolutely amazing, the ladies were friendly when you come in. You order at the counter before you sit down. They only have bottled beverages and it appears everything is served in to go foam containers even if you are eating in along with plastic wear. Honestly this is the reason I dropped one star. I truly wish I had found this place sooner as I'm moving soon. I would definitely be back and I would highly recommend to others. I had the lava chicken with white rice and macaroni salad.

Whenever I crave some good chicken katsu, and I get too lazy to make some at home, I always come here for just that. My husband orders a BBQ mix plate (short ribs and chicken), and he always enjoys it. My daughter loves their Kahlua pork plate, and my son always gets a bowl of chicken katsu and two spam musubi. The food is always delicious, and customer service is always excellent. The ambiance is great. It reminds me of all the L&L's in Hawai'i.

First time trying this place, nice to have something different in the neighborhood. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I had the Chicken katsu bowl which came with rice and mixed vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots). Chicken was nicely fried dark meat, meat was juicy and crust was crispy. Rice was a nice sticky white rice, veggies were steamed. My friend got the seafood and bbq mixed plate. It came with fried fish, shrimp and choice of meat with side of rice and macaroni. We also got a side of lumpia. Mixed plate could definitely be shared, serving was pretty good. Will definitely try again.

Wide range of options on the menu. The food is very good and flavor and preparation is consistent. The service is reasonable speed depending on how busy they are. The servers are always super friendly. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. You can also order online if you're in a rush. There are several tables inside and the decor is on theme with Hawaiian inspiration. A go to casual restaurant.

Stopped in to get some dinner 25 minutes before closing time. Spent $60 on the order to dine-in but was informed that they close at 8 again we had 25 minutes before close. Our order didn't come out until 8pm and we were told it has to be to-go by the manager Alex. We took it home and they forgot to give me two scoops of rice that comes standard on the plate because I ordered an extra scoop of macaroni salad. Also forgot to give me the katsu sauce I ordered to go with my French fries. I normally go to the main L&L on Austin Hwy and I will stick to that one. I will not be going back to the Military Dr location. Bad service and poor service from the kitchen.

This was one of the oddest genres of barbecue I have ever tried. Yet, one of the best tasting I've ever experienced. So much that I try to emulate the flavors at home with my own cooking. Definitely go here more than once. Get each dish two or three times you won't catch the subtleties of the flavors after only once or twice. The flavor profiles are fairly complex. The staff knows their offerings and are extremely adept at helping you decide on what to try off the menu. With the laid back and friendly environment, it's a no brainer why they have many repeat customers.

I'm from Hawaii so it was nice to be in a familiar atmosphere! The spam musubi was good. I didn't usually pick L&L when I lived in Hawaii. But since moving here in 2016 I miss Hawaii so much that any connection is great. Servers were so nice and had the aloha spirit. If you miss Hawaii like me, go check it out!
