Wow! Perfect service, great food, cold Sapporo on draft, what more could you want?!?! The chef even made rounds in the dining area to check on everything! Props to him for caring. The Ramen was superb, egg softly cooked to perfection, broth had great flavor, pork belly so so tender and sprouts added a nice texture and flavor. I'm in love with their charred edamame. Our waiter Ismael (what the receipt said) had GREAT service, which can be hard to come by these days. We came here about 3 years ago, and it was subpar compared to now!! Honestly, tonight we left Ramen Monday at Hot Joy in Southtown to come here. Paid for our cocktails and left without ordering our Ramen........ and I am SOOOOOO glad we did. We will absolutely be back. Great vibe, great food and great service.

Ah, downtown San Antonio. A bit of a mixed bag, innit? On one hand, you've got this vibrant, lively atmosphere; on the other, you've got to bob and weave past a few characters who could headline their own daytime talk shows. But I digress. I came to Kimura on a rare "ramen weather" day--yes, even in San Antonio, the stars aligned for it. And mate, I had a hot date to impress. Let's just say I knocked it out of the park. This place has a bit of a unique setup--you order up front and then find yourself a seat. Efficient, a bit casual, and honestly a nice change of pace. We had Ash looking after us. Whether she was the server or cashier doesn't matter--she was an absolute legend. She even sorted us a sweet deal on a sake-beer combo, and for that, I'll be forever grateful. The vibe in Kimura is fantastic. Think urban, studio-like aesthetics with ambient lighting that makes everyone look a bit more mysterious. And in the loo? There's a giant tree. Yes, an actual tree. I almost forgot what I went in there for, just standing there admiring the audacity of it all. Now, the food. Oh boy, the food. We started with the gyoza, and as someone who has gorged on his fair share of sushi and dumplings, these were the best I've ever had. Crispy edges, savoury filling, and the perfect balance of texture. Next up was the Japanese fried chicken, which, after weeks of feasting on air-fried dinosaur nuggets (don't ask), brought me back to life. Juicy, crispy, and bursting with flavour--an absolute delight. Then came the star of the show: the tonkotsu ramen. This was only my second time having ramen in my life, so call me an amateur if you like, but this was divine. The broth was rich, creamy, and packed with so much flavor bombs it nearly sent me into flashbacks of my failed stint in the Royal Navy. The chashu pork melted in my mouth, the noodles had just the right chew, and the whole dish felt like a warm hug in a bowl.Kimura isn't just a restaurant--it's a cultural experience wrapped in a cozy downtown hideaway. If you're not a ramen fan, this place will convert you. If you're already a fan, prepare to have your standards raised. Dodge the traffic, embrace the oddities of downtown, and make this spot a priority. And if you see Ash, tell her Matt sent you.

I never really make a bad review but this place is probably one of the worst I've ever been.Service: We came at a not busy time, and waited 10 minutes to be seated, to which the person taking orders smiled at the people in front of us and said sorry for the wait and was really polite to them. When we waited another 5 minutes to have our orders taken, she has the most bored look on her face and said absolutely nothing to us and just stared at us until we started talking, then handed us one drink and a number for our table and said nothing the whole time. We sat down at a table with crumbs all over it, and saw people grabbing their takeout containers and silverware, with tons of people looking confused because there were no signs or anything. There are no servers, so you have to just know your way around to getting everything for yourself, which is ridiculous given one appetizer, two entrees, and a drink were 70 dollars.Food: the food looked amazing, but tasted like nothing and was really underwhelming, the oyakudon's rice was overcooked, and the egg was cold, and the chicken had no flavor. The tonkotsu ramen had an okay broth, but there was no depth of flavor to justify the price. The best thing there was the green onions and mushrooms on the ramen. The ramen noodles were bouncy, and pretty good texture wise.Ambience: The tables were dirty, and the whole vibe of the place gave a snooty feel, but was trying to be cozy. There was an upstairs door that was so loud it split your ears when it opened.Overall: 2/5 Service was bad, food was bad, ambience was bad. The hostess was arrogant, rude, and judgmental. 100% not worth the money. So expensive for bland food

I love kimura! I always get the tonkastu ramen, it's a creamy broth, absolutely delicious. The low light is so relaxing, i always get a hot jasmine green tea when I come. I love a good hot tea with my ramen, especially on a cold night. Kimura brings all the vibes and flavor!

First thought - ohh this is cute!! From the street to when you walk in and don't let that small store front full you, there is some seating in the back. They have a good list of food and drinks to select from. Which you are met with that menu right when you walk in and from there you can place your order. I was handed a number and told I could pick my table, the vibe in here is so nice and chill with good music going. I did order the honey lavender city orchard which is delicious if you like a light fragrant flavor, which I do. I was very disappointed with my ramen the overall base was salty and in my opinion not edible. I personally don't believe I will be back, sad I felt the potential here.

Yakisoba, drained with no broth. Still infinitely better than a certain shop near TO/281. When bonito flakes are promised, they are delivered. The savoury flakes and semi sweet noodles dance well. Fried egg lightly seasoned.... mmhmm. The lovely crisped chicken on a layer of rough minced vegetables (tiny onions/chives?) and a drizzle of a light spice sauce deserves a nice dry beer. (chimaek level-really). I'm going back.

Forgot to write a review here but the misses and I went to this lovely restaurant, you go in and order right at the counter and go find a place to sit, loved the decorations of yokai masks and other Japanese themed decor, the servers were great helping out with anything I asked after they brought the food, we both got tonkotsu and we got chicken karage and some white rice, karage was perfect the rice was good trust me I've had bad rice and the ramen was amazing I just recommend for the tonkotsu adding some black garlic oil, overall amazing experience

This is hands down my favorite ramen spot in San Antonio! I find myself coming here multiple times a month because the food is just that good--I crave it all the time. The ramen is incredible, and their yakisoba is another must-try--it's my husband's favorite! Adding spicy mayo takes it to the next level. The atmosphere is always great, with a welcoming vibe, friendly people, and a super nice staff. Every visit is a fantastic experience!
