What was once The Iron Skillet, is now The Black Bear Restaurant on Ackerman & I-10. Service here is always friendly and typically very quick. The food is plentiful with a wide selection of Burgers, Sandwiches, Salads with Sodas. Tea, Beer and Wine to wash it all down. Ambiance is casual with seating at a convenient counter, tables or, booths. Here's a bit of housekeeping though, there are several Handicap parking spots and one dedicated Combat Veteran spot near the entrance. However, tonight a young Girl with a toddler decided they were entitled to the Veteran spot although neither were clearly not Veterans. Please, if you don't qualify, don't think of just yourself - save these spots for those who fight to save our Freedoms.

This place is long gone and has been replaced by Black Bear Diner. A wonderful upgrade from the old place. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed.

I have a lot of Skillet choosing diners. Iron skillet is a chain Diner that is often attached to truck stops and you can find it all over the country. We quite like them and if it's 2 in the morning and you want a home-cooked meal you don't have very many options, and it's much better than Denny's or IHOP or some crap like that. It's not a great standard but it's better than average and we appreciate it.This one is in a very cool Petro gas truck stop which is where you usually find the iron skillets these days, and the truck stop itself is very cool as well and well worth the stop if you're heading into or out of San Antonio - especially in the middle of the night.

My partner and I, were really hungry and was looking for something really good around 0400 in the morning, and i guess Texas don't have restaurants open early morning. But we found this Iron Skillet at a truck stop near by and it was lucky 24 hours, thank God. We read the reviews and well maybe the Chef tonight was better lol, but the food was amazing, fresh, and it was delicious. Honestly hands down the food was a 5 stars. We got breakfast with gravy, eggs, bacon and stuff, and sweet tea and orange juice. My partner got steak & Eggs and i tried some it was bomb as well. The restaurant was amazing, and everyone was friendly , so i don't understand the reviews this place got, but I'm hoping the management has changed and the chefs have changed since those bad reviews, lol. But if you are our late and want something good stop by this restaurant.

Awful. Awful. Awful. This was bad guys. I feel so bad for the professional drivers out there. The food and Buffett are expensive and nothing looks or tasted good. Biggest standout on lunch buffet was corned beef on Monday after St. Patty's day. COME ON!!!! Really???????And for gods sake. Taste the canned veggies after you dump the can in the pan. I kept thinking just how bad the food was. Won't go back ever again. Total was of money and who likes eating crappy food and then paying for it. Do better or do like your sister Truck stop TA and open franchises and close the restaurant you run. They are building a fuddruckers in the TA New Braunfels.

Traditional Truck stop surroundings, but a great breakfast. Biscuits and gravy were perfect. All served in an iron skillet of course!

Read a lot of reviews on this place. Maybe they have a new chef or something because the food was actually decent tasting, came in quick and the waitresses were super nice and helpful. I ordered the chicken Alfredo, likes the chicken cuz it was grilled, the sauce was good and my garlic bread was not burnt so I liked that. All our food tasted fresh and warm. I am pregnant right now, so it's hard to find food that won't make my stomach upset. Next time I will come at an hour during the buffet.

Soup and salad bar is really good here. The hot bar food however was a different story.....cold food, not up to temperature. Let the kitchen manager know about it, he put it back on the griddle in front of us!!! Ugh. (BBQ Pork)Meatballs were also cold, not up to temperature. The waitress was very nice and friendly. The decor was nice, horses throughout.Overall, would probably sample it before you tell them you want the hot bar....

If you have an hour to waste while waiting for your cold food, by all means go here. And when you ask for your cold food to be replaced by fresh, hot food, they just bring out the same old crap but reheated. The cook is a damn idiot that will come out of the kitchen to stare you down when you complain about the crappy food he cooked. I wouldn't give this place any stars, but since I have to it goes to our waitress who was very pleasant. Moral of the story...this place sucks!!!
