We came here for a birthday celebration. It took a while for our sever to show up but once she did she was great! The food was pretty good. It's a solid option if you are in the Hondo area. The onion rings are very good!

This spot is iconic to Hondo. It's been around for over 50 years...that says a lot! They've got a real cute gift shop to the right as you enter, a bar area towards the mid section, and the restaurant/ dining area on the left. We were seated immediately in a booth and our server was friendly and sweet. My friend and I ordered from the lunch special section - chicken fried steak and per my server, the onion rings. We added a one time salad bowl run for $2.99. They do have a decent salad bar with various dressings. The chicken fried steak was huge! Flavor wise- very bland. Unfortunately I could not have the gravy d/t my dairy intolerance. Onion rings were meh. They had the same coating as the steak. Sourdough bread with a nice cinnamon butter were complimentary. Great service and a fun place to visit when in town.

This was not our first choice for Mother's Day dinner burger wound up here. There was a little wait but totally understandable being it was Mother's Day. We checked out the store they had in the restaurant and also some cool artifacts. I ordered the chicken fried steak and baked potato. We got fried pickes and a house salad for an appetizer. The fried pickles were very fresh and good. The ranch dressing was the highlight of the meal. The chicken fried steak and baked potato were a little disappointing after having the appetizer as they did not have much flavor.

Visited this place after going to the cornfield maze down the road! I had a pecan chicken-fried chicken! It was very good and the cutlet was a thicc boi! Our server was very fast and kept our drinks topped off! The place is popular, so we walked in and waited about 15 minutes to be seated which was a breeze since there's a little shop to browse located inside the restaurant. The dining area never got loud despite the amount of conversations going on! Even saw kids sitting and enjoying their food so much they didn't have time to get wild! Always a plus!!

Came here on several recommendations from a few of my coworkers. My daughter and I took a day trip to Castroville and I was asking my coworkers where a good place to eat. They all said drive down a little more ways to Hondo and eat at Hermann Sons. I'm so glad I listened. Friendly servers, food was delicious. I got the pepper steak with cheese (medium heat)and onion rings. The medium heat was perfect. My daughter got the hamburger and fries, which she enjoyed. The place seems steady with customers too. We got here around 1 and had a small wait. Looking forward to coming back and trying something else along with dessert.

Went with a very large party - 17 total. Service was great! Beautiful backyard patio area. Great for photos. The only thing lacking was the food. It was okay. Nothing was amazing. But nothing was bad. Chicken fried chicken breading fell off when cut. Thin. My boyfriends baked potato was very small. Onion rings were plain. However, I would go again for the ambiance and friendly staff.

I've always heard good things about Hermann Sons Steakhouse from others and finally gave it a try. The restaurant is located conveniently on 90 and offers lots of parking. The restaurant feels very causal as well. We walked in and did have to wait on a hostess and were given our estimated wait time. We killed time by looking around the little shop. Our time to be called finally came and we were seated. Our waitress was great and super attentive! We ordered fried pickles which were amazing! They were super crispy so definitely try them! Then I ordered the chicken fried chicken with a potato and salad. The ranch dressing here taste homemade. Finally the chicken fried steak. I wish I could say I loved it but I didn't. The breading didn't stay with the chicken and the gravy was just alright. I'll likely come back to give them another try.

Hermann Sons is our go-to spot when visiting family in Hondo. If you've ever spent time in Hondo, you know about Hermann Sons. If you live in Hondo, you know the people who own and work at Hermann Sons. This great steakhouse is known for its "Original Alvin's Pepper Steak," which is beef patties stuffed with peppers and onions. It is my husband's favorite dish. I opt for the chicken fried steak or one of their many specials that rotate each month. They are also known for their salad bar. It's not a huge bar, but it is full of fresh greens, salad toppings, and freshly made pasta and veggie salads. Don't forget the homemade croutons. The chicken wings are also wonderful. Slightly crispy and served with a spicy hot pepper sauce.Of course, their steaks are pretty darn good. Excellent, actually. The food is locally grown. At one time, they had their own garden outside of the restaurant. I'm unsure if they are still doing it, but you can tell everything is fresh. The staff are courteous and accommodating. They take very good care of you. Prices are reasonable, and the restaurant is very clean. There is a bar for whatever libations you may want. Right inside the entryway is a gift shop with lots of fun, kitschy items to peruse and purchase. This place gets busy, so you may want to make reservations, but often you can get seated in short order. If it's hunting season, I suggest reservations, regardless. The restaurant is busy with hunters during the season. If you're in Hondo, stop in for some fresh fare. If you're not in Hondo, take a trip out there for a fantastic steak.

Heard so much about this place. So we planned it. To go there and make the trip. My best friend and I finally went. It was disappointing over all. 1. For the Price, food ? For an amazing steak, I would pay the price! But in this case, I ordered the biggest steak they had to offer, and the size of my steak was small, dry and sides were small too. (The bread we got before our meal was good).2. Service : our waitress , seemed to have little experience . Our food order was wrong, we didn't get tea refills and when I got home ,fed my left overs to the raccoons . Very very disappointed. Will not recommend nor go back.Waste of gas. I work to hard to throw my money away on an expensive meal.Anna

We decided to take a mini road trip west of San Antonio and came to Hondo and found this lovely spot. Everyone, from the hostess to the wait staff, the bus boy, and cooks were on top of it all-smiling and checking in on us the whole time. The food was great and they have a really good salad bar. I had a T-bone and the husband had some kind of steak with chili and cheese! These folks have been there a long time, and now we know why. They have a great restaurant, clean restrooms (yes, that's important), awesome staff and the prices are reasonable.
