Gus' Empanadas

Newest good stand at The Block SA. Had their beef and potato empanada and it was delish! The empanada was nothing like I've tasted before, made from what seemed like corn meal and flour. This thing fried perfectly and had a nice texture. The filling was very nicely seasoned and cooked, not dry but very moist. Will def try again

I got the daily special for $5. The empanada was stuffed with chicken, a spicy sauce, cheese, and rice cooked with coconut. It was filling, full of cheese and big pieces of chicken. For a little one-man food cart, I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was. The owner makes it fresh right in front of you and serves it hot. The area it's located in is nice too, with a few food truck options, plenty of seating, a bar, and cornhole boards.

Maybe I got to the truck too late. They ran out of the fried plantains with cheese and the spinach and mushroom empanadas so I settled for the Solo queso empanadas. Good method of notification when food is ready - they send a text. Only problem was I think they were super busy and it took 30min to get my 2 queso empanadas. I was a little too hungry for the wait unfortunately. The cheesy empanadas made up for it though. The maize mix that they use for the empanadas is delish and they were fried to perfection. I would have liked a little more cheese filling though. They served the empanadas with a lime-cilantro salsa that was the perfect touch. I'll definitely go back.

Ordered the special which was explained to me would have rice, cilantro, ground beef, and cheese. Bit into it and it only had rice and cheese. I'm chalking it up to possibly getting it mixed with someone else's order, but I'm not one to return food and complain. So, I just took it home. Maybe next time...

I tried Gus' Empanadas at the Block last Friday. They offer a good variety of empanadas and they actually send you a text when your order is ready - how awesome is that! I ordered the picadillo empanada and found it to be more breading than filling and just okay. The flavors were good and the empanada was made fresh, however I just wasn't that impressed. After reading the other good reviews I am more than willing to give them another try.

Came from out of town. Had a gift certificate from Restaurant.com printed. Did they take it you ask? Guess we'll never know. Yesterday we showed up (Friday) at 6:47pm. Their closed sign was up and they were still in there just awkwardly staring at us. Ooookay. Came back today (Saturday) at 3:20pm. Closed sign up still just hanging out in there. What even? Do you only open an hour a day or something? I tried to see their hours but i didn't see any posted online or at the stand. Thanks people, thanks -_-

I've always wanted to try Gus's empanadas pero I'm usually too concerned with drinking and never eating at the Block... But I digress, I finally got a chance to try the special tonight with a friend, I believe it was cilantro, Spanish rice, and four cheeses. It was crazy delicious, super filling, and the sauce took it to the next level. The owner was super nice and welcoming as well which is just the cherry on top of a A1 dining experience. If you ever get a chance, definitely check them out.

Really good food, make sure to try the empanada special. The service wad great as well. Will definitely go back.

Gus' Empanadas are the real deal if you are looking for legit Colombian style empanada's. Whether it's the chicken, beef, or hawaiian, you are going to bite into a crispy, hot, juicy, delicious empanada everytime. Gus make every empanada with fresh ingredients and a whole lotta love. A must have!
