Garcia's Mexican Food Restaurant

We stopped on our way back from a martial arts tournament in Dallas. It was literally the first place we picked after exiting 35. Bad choice, and I will take the blame for this one. I confused this restaurant with another one in San Marcos I had eaten at years ago. This was NOT it. I had been craving Fideo loco for months, and was excited they had it on the menu! Of course I ordered it and one fajita taco. My son had the fiesta plate. Positives first. GREAT service and staff! Polite, attentive, and great with my son. The menu is on the smaller side which was appreciated. The chips were ridiculously over salted. I think they were bought elsewhere, I could be wrong. The salsa that came with them was ok. My son's fiesta plate was half good, half bad. He didn't like the flauta, and I agreed. The rice was great! The rest was just ok. Let's get to my Fideo. First I don't know why they brought me Fideo with carne guisada on top? Also it was dry Fideo? It had the beans, but it also had rice? One confusing thing was we were never offered tortillas with any of our food or brought a different salsa than the one that came with the chips. We double checked the menu to make sure. As disappointed as I was, I heard a waitress tell a table, that also was asking about tortillas, they had made in house corn tortillas. I was skeptical since the food was mediocre. Still, I decided to order two brisket norteno tacos in corn tortillas for the road. For $5 a taco I was expecting something great to make this a better experience. NOPE! If that was a made in house corn tortilla, then I'm Brad Pitt. No way. Prove me wrong. The meat was good, but it felt like they threw the veggies in the taco raw, as an afterthought. No salsa of any kind to go either. I checked reviews on other sites. I will say this, it's either drunk college kids, local patrons who have never left San Marcos, or people with no taste buds voting. There is no way anyone should be calling this "best Mexican ever". Shame on yall, and for the prices for the food. I will stick to my San Antonio for my tex mex fix.

Favorite Mexican restaurant in San Marcos. Other locations aren't as good. Love their migas plate, chips and salsa, and shrimp tacos. Best enchiladas. Staff are always welcoming. Nice environment.

What a hidden gem in San Marcos. Food was amazing and service was outstanding. The prices were reasonable, too! If you want great Mexican food, in a hidden spot in town, come to Garcia's!!

I've been going to Garcia's since I was a teenager and it NEVER disappoints. The food is incredibly simple Mexican dishes done REALLY well. If you come in expecting anything else, you'll be disappointed, but I never am. I love the salsa! Always getting lots of chips and salsa refills. The crunchy taco plate is usually my go to, but last time I tried the Combo Plate and I think it's my new favorite. Service is pretty good, but it gets busy so just have to keep that in mind. And it's super laidback atmosphere. Very casual which I love! Plus you really can't beat the prices!!

Food tasted so good and the portions were large. Price was very reasonable. Staff was very attentive. Restaurant is small inside but they do have a carry out window too. Another great place to eat in San Marcos that we will be back to.

When I'm craving tortilla soup this where we go. I like to get a small chicken soup and bean and cheese taco. This Garcia's is good size and i don't think i ever had to wait longer than 20 minutes. The staff is always so kind and keep my chips and salsa full. The booth seats are my favorite it feels nice to feel secluded yet seen. I also like the back room as well. I know they don't use it all the time but sometimes it's nice to not be in a bustle and hustle

This out favorite place for breakfast. We love their breakfast tacos, gorditas, and breakfast plates. The best-kept secret is their pancakes. They are great! We have not found any other places in town that serve fluffy delicious pancakes. Alicia and Sylvia are out favorite servers but everyone is very efficient.

AMAZING service very warm and welcoming. So so genuinely kind.Horchata doesn't taste like most, it has a hazel nutty flavor to it. It was a bit offputting at first but only because I didn't expect it. Tasty! The chips are wonderful, amazing crunch and flavor. The salsa is a little sad, not gross, but I've had way better. Not spicy and it feels like it came from a jug/bottle. I don't really judge too harshly for that one though. Good chewing ice if you like thatI ordered 3 breakfast tacos and my partner ordered the bean and cheese nachos. It tastes so homemade and comforting. Very warm. Very good. I will be back to try the menudo :)

Chips are awesome-sauce...Best Carne Asada Fries I have had in Texas. Great stop in San Marcos

Garcias is Very good.I really like their rice.Our server was extremely helpful and attentive.
