Believe the hype. I have tried this place on 4 separate occasions on random days and this is what I have found.+ Burgers are consistently good, juicy and flavorful. Love the way they grill the buns. I prefer the Huebner (mushroom swiss)+ Fries are good- better than Burger Boy's crinkle fries imo~Onion rings have been great 2/4 times. The seasoning was off the last two times but there is potential. Overall very good burgers, definitely recommend especially on this side of town where good local restaurants are rare.

I should tell you going in the door, I'm a burger guy. Probably my favorite thing to eat, so I'm tough on burger joints. I've had this place bookmarked forever and just today had the opportunity to try it. Let's just say, I'm glad I don't live closer. Things started out rough. I was in line behind not one - but two - couples who made ordering a damn burger more difficult than I'd ever seen. Not the young lady behind the counter's fault, though. Once I finally ordered, the food came out quicker than expected and piping hot. The burger had the perfect amount of pink and the ratio of bun:meat:bacon:toppings:condiments was on point. The only drawbacks were: the burger was just a tad too juicy. I know, I know, how could I say that? A juicy burger is good, but this just barely crossed the line into leaving an amount of grease left over you kinda wish you hadn't seen. Second drawback: I really wanted tots and they were out. Now look, last controversial thing I'll say. Ordinarily, I get a little wary when a joint seems connected to a gas station, but Fredericksburgers did a great job of making their place feel separate and apart from their neighbor. Lastly, I thought the price was right for what you get. Overall, I was impressed. The young lady taking orders and cleaning up was very kind.

Went here on a recommendation from a friend. During my visit there seems to be an issue with the venting and the dining area was a little smokey. Ordered the basic burger plus onion rings and fries. It took a little while to get the burgers. The burgers were relatively dry and nothing great. The sides were also rather bland and not terribly large.Decor was of a side store in a gas station.Bottom line - self service, poor decor and below average food Won't be back.

I'm so hungry, I could eat a hamburger from a gas station! I wish I could claim that was an original joke, but it's an homage to a similar dad joke uttered by Clark Griswold in "National Lampoon's Vacation." Dumb joke aside, it's certainly applicable to this review, as Fredericksburgers (nice portmanteau) is indeed attached to a gas station convenience store. Don't let the location deter you, though, as this is a bonafide burger destination joint, a place you might soon find in one of Texas Monthly's "Top 50" lists. Yes, I'm serious; it's really THAT good. Chef/owner (and native San Antonian) Steven Chavez is serious about his burgers, a fact I observed first-hand on a recent visit. Steven made the rounds during my visit to ensure that every customer was happy. The response was a collective, emphatic, "Oh, dear lord, yes!" I overheard him mentioning that business has far exceeded his expectations and that he plans to add a drive-thru soon. I will go a step further and predict that demand will soon outgrow the small space and that he will relocate to a larger location. But I'm getting ahead of myself; let's talk about the food.If you've followed my reviews over the years, then you know that I don't "do normal." Whenever I visit a restaurant, I gravitate instinctively towards the biggest, baddest, most ridiculous thing on the menu. In this case, that thing was a beast of burger bodaciousness called The Big Boerne*: three patties, three slices of cheddar, and three strips of bacon. As I sat waiting for my burger (a short wait despite being cooked to order), I wondered if I had overreached myself. If I didn't like the meat, would three patties mean three times the disappointment? Well, to say I was impressed would be an understatement, as the three third-pound patties were juicy, well seasoned, and charred nicely along the edges. Steven sources his meat (likely a 70/30 grind, given the texture) locally from Bolner's meat market, so rest assured that these are not the typical pre-formed frozen patties served at most fast- and fast-casual places. The cheddar (Land O' Lakes) was extra creamy and blended into the patties. The thick-cut slices of bacon were cooked perfectly; the fat was rendered crispy but not burnt. The soft, buttery bun held its own against the onslaught of juices from the beef and bacon. I was also keen to devour my small side of thin-cut onion rings. The onions, definitely sliced fresh on the premises, were fried to achieve alchemical perfection: crispy on the outside and cooked to the point where they caramelized but retained their snap and astringency. That might sound like an easy feat, but so few restaurants -- including $$$$ steakhouses -- treat their rings with such finesse. Tip: order a large side, as a small will leave you craving more. The location that houses Fredericksburgers has been home to at least five other restaurants over the years. The most recent casualty was Ruby's Cuisine of India, which I frequented and enjoyed. Part of me laments losing an Indian restaurant to yet another burger joint (ugh...predictable Americans), but with burgers this good, I would be foolish to complain. If you're a burger fan, then this place is worth a drive regardless of your location. Ryan M. has spoken!*Look through the photos on this page and you fill find one of me hand modeling The Big Boerne. It's a phenomenal photo that shows every layer of juicy goodness. It should be the featured photo, but Yelp's algorithm doesn't always make the right decision.

I came here with high hopes for a good local burger joint. I have eaten in at least 5 different restaurants housed in this location and liked something about all of them. The only problem was they didn't last. This one might change all of that.I stopped in and ordered two 410 cheeseburgers and a family order of fries to go. I only waited about 10 minutes. The burgers were very good. The thick slices of bacon on them were perfectly cooked. The fries were the crinkle-cut ones that I like. The family order was big enough for four people to share. They were seasoned nicely. Since I carried them home, they were a little soggy. But that is the case with any take out fries. I know they will be excellent when I eat in the store.I like the way they redecorated the space. If you hadn't been there for one of the previous businesses, you would think it had been there forever. It is comfortable and clean with several tables in the dining room. I looked at the AC vents on the ceiling. Unlike the last couple of restaurants in the space, someone actually cleaned them up nicely. The people behind the counter were helpful and very nice. For those who are not "burger inclined", they do have some other choices. There are several different appetizers including fried mushrooms and mozzarella sticks. There are also chicken tenders, wings, and pizzas. Please, go visit this restaurant. I think you will like it as much as I do. Put it on your calendar as a recurring event. Let's keep them here!

Came here to try their burgers. They took our order pretty quick but waited like 20-25 min to get our food. It was super smoky in there so we took it to go. Burger was okay but I've had better. My friend really enjoyed his though, he said it was really good. The fries were good and the onion rings were okay. Glad I got to try but I personally wouldn't come back as it's also not close to where I live.

My sons and I have been excited to try this place out and despite them moving closer to their mom's place, it took us a while to get there. Delicious onion rings! My son's fries looked nicely seasoned with more than just salt. We all enjoyed our burgers very much. Two things I'm not crazy about is how cramped it is in there and the price is a bit steep. But there were enough options that I'd like to go back.
