Fat Tummy Empanadas

People are friendly and they recommend a empanada if it's your first time and undecided. Place is clean and quick. I recommend you to try this place

Diego took our order with such panache. He explained one of the items I didn't understand (raspas con queso--cheese, corn, and strips of pepper). Have not had fresh empanadas before. The dough was so flaky and crisp. Yum!Got a traditional beef, a spinach and cheese and the raspas con queso, which I liked the most. I'm new to chimchurri sauce, which added a bit of zing. My fiancé ordered traditional beef and cheese, raspas con queso, and split the spinach and cheese with me. He also enjoyed the raspas von queso, and mixed the two sauces, which gave it an amazing burst of flavor. Having been on Diners, Drive-Throughs, and Dives, the ambiance was simple and functional. I liked the old photos of San Antonio landmarks on the wall. It was lively when we were there about 1 pm on Saturday. Then it emptied out when I waited for some sweet empanadas to take home (half baked for further warming at home).Definitely going to return. Our server was the son of the founders, and I met Mom too. Love seeing the American Dream in action.

For those who are gluten-free/wheat-free, I recommend getting a half baked beef and potato empanada (to go). Then at home, load a baked yellow potato with the beef filling, top with San Jacinto Asadero cheese (HEB Deco) and one chopped garlic stuffed green olive, and lastly top with a drizzle of the Chimichurri sauce.

The building definitely puts this into the dive category of food establishments! When I say dive, I don't mean dirty, the inside, while weathered was clean. You order at the counter and they bring your food out. We got the spicy beef, beef and cheese, and chicken-cheese-spinach empanadas. All were good. I personally liked the chicken one best. If you love empanadas I'd give them a try!

The food is tasty, service was kind, atmosphere was simple. Each empanada is $4.95 and has enough filling to be really filling! I couldn't have eaten two. My friend, who eats a lot of empanadas, was raving about their crust: it's exactly right. They have smaller empanadas for dessert. They cater and have a food truck, too. Also, one unique feature here is the ability to buy raw empanadas and take them home to cook yourself (pop them in the oven).

Always a great experience eating here. The owners take pride in their food and service. The menu choices are greatly varied and everyone can find something they will like. Highly recommended!!

When I eat these empanadas, I'm back in Argentina! Buy some par-baked to take home to your freezer.

Delicious, I bought two of each flavor of empanadas and also two of each of the dessert empanadas. Glad I found this place, definitely worth the drive from the VA hospital after my appointment. I will be back and make this a stop every time I leave the VA. The lady who runs the place is amazing, super friendly and courteous. I have no problem spending over $100 each time I stop by.

my portion of the order came with 2 empanadas. I already knew half way through my first empanada that if I didn't start the second one immediately, I wouldn't have room in my stomach for it. So yes, I ate half of both & im glad I did. So much flavor, so juicy & the right amount of crisp without being too dry. it's a small place but the tables aren't crowded together, which i love.

Food was absolutely delicious! The beef and cheese was my favorite! The chimichurri sauce is the perfect pairing. I also tried a pumpkin empanada but I felt it wasn't sweet enough. Tasted like pumpkin straight from a can. Obviously the empanadas are baked fresh but I felt as though there was a lot of smoke in the air and my eyes were so watery the entire time I was eating. Next time I will take my empanadas to-go and won't eat inside.
