I gave this place a try even though the reviews leave a big doubt in your mind. I will say that i was pleasantly surprised with the service. the staff was very friendly and helpful, I even met the owner which was a pleasant surprise. Everyone was very friendly and polite. We ordered some barbacoa tacos along with some carne guisada. I must say the barbacoa was delicious and the carne guisada was good just a little different since it has a little heat but very good still. I can say we enjoyed the tacos to go. The only draw back we have was the tables inside they are very well worn and look dirty, so to some this may not be acceptable but it was fine. Well worth the stop if you are near the area.

Immediately greeted. Chips came with warm cheese and a fresh house made salsa. Although slightly warm, the chips finished with a slight but of chew after the first crunch and when they cooled.Burrito was no gut buster, this was of a standard size. Noticeably light, there was more salad and dressing than meat. Adding to the light fare was the atypical dry tongue, it was parched! Clean tables and floor.Waitress was polite and asked if everything was alright at the end. I smiled and said "good." (She tried.)

This place got some bomb ass food, I usually don't give 5 stars but the service was great and the food was great. Food came steaming like majin Buu was heated.

Of the three meats I had, the barbacoa was the best. It was nicely tender and there was a lot of it.The lengua still had skin, which didn't alter the texture too much, but usually I'm used to it being smooth on all sides. The al pastor was just ok. It didn't taste as complex as I was expecting. The red salsa in the bottle was my jam. With the chips they served queso and red salsa. Love the queso, but the salsa just tasted like tomato and no spice. Our bottles of salsa were shuffled to another table fairly quickly.

The prices are good but the food was just okay. We ordered the nachos and the meat was completely burned, the cheese had a weird taste. We couldn't even eat half of it. We also ordered the Al pastor torta, which was just okay. With all of the great Mexican food in San Antonio we probably won't be going back.

Came here with my family. Did not find many vegan options unfortunately. Nothing on the menu was clearly labeled so through a bit of digging and asking the waitress I was able to get a torta with avocado lettuce tomato and took off the cheese and sour cream. Also got a tostada with just beans avocado and lettuce tomato. Had to ask for no cheese. And they do have chips and salsa.Would like to see more clearly labeled vegan items and more options like maybe some guacamole for the chips or vegan cheese or tofu items.

Living in the far westside neighborhood that I do has it's disadvantages for the classic foodie. The dining options are quite limited so I often find myself having to forage for grub by driving a good distance. Having only lived here a short time, I search the worldwide web often for spots I've missed. I'm craving Mexican so I search specifically for that type of food and was excited to find El Rodeo just a few minutes up the road! LOCATION:The restaurant is located on the far left end of a small strip mall that includes a gas station, so pulling in and finagling my way around the pumps to the back of the building where I find the drive thru speaker box. THE MENU:The menu is huge. I scan quickly for carne asada and find a plate that includes rice, beans, salad, guac and cactus. Hmm. I don't usually care for cactus but I'll give it a shot. For my hubs, I search for a simple carne asada burrito. Nothing. So I ask the lady whose voice pops on to take my order. We decide to build this burrito from scratch... asada, rice, cheese, Pico de gallo. I order two horchatas becs it is the nectar of the gods and I'm hoping this place has got the flavors right. Prices are reasonable and what I had expected to pay. THE SERVICE:The lady helping me at the speaker box and then again at the pick up window is very helpful, super casual, no frills or nonsense and friendly. THE FOOD:I excitedly take this food home becs I am starving! Ok, I'm really just excited to eat Mexican food that is less Tex-Mex and more ... Mex. It does not disappoint. Hubby is content with his customized burrito and I'm pretty happy with my carne asada plate. The beef is a little on the lime-y side, obviously marinated with a lot of lime, which is fine for me. Rice and beans are simple. And now the cactus... wow! I am so pleasantly surprised that the tender strips of green cactus grilled to perfection tastes so good. It does have a tartness to it that may be natural for this type of cactus, what do I know? But it's yum! And happiest of all, the horchata flavors are good. Still looking for a delicious, authentic horchata so if you know where a girl can get her (horchata) drank on, hmu! OVERALL:Good. I will definitely be back when the mood strikes and I do recommend this place, especially to those of us with limited dining resources out here in the boonies. Provecho!

We had a great experience with our to go lunch! The place was packed so that is usually a very positive sign. We ordered a torta, El Jalisco burrito and nacho supreme. Let me start by saying they were very quick to take my order and I waited five or six minutes tops. Our lunch was neatly packed up along with a variety of sauces, silverware and napkins. Staff was very friendly. Portions were huge! We will definitely be back.
