If you're craving good Mexican cuisine, this spot offers a great selection. It's located at the entrance of Timberwood Park, off Blanco Rd approximately 5 miles north of 1604 W.Their dishes are always made fresh. Main dishes are served with a small salad, tomato and guacamole in a tortilla bowl. Refried beans are tasty and the Mexican rice is soft, fluffy and flavorful! They also have a great selection of Mexican cookies and other treats. I haven't had a dish I didn't like.

Very good service and food. Came here for lunch and ordered the Mexican Plate which has 2 cheese Enchiladas, a taco. Refried beans and rice, along with a small salad.

Met the wife over at this restaurant as she was headed back out of San Antonio. It was 1:45pm so there was hardly anyone there. Hence the service was excellent. I think we had 3 waitresses come to our table. The decor was typical Mexican food place with lots of colors and Mexican artifacts around the room. The food was great! I had the pork chop lunch special which was 2 grilled pork chops, beans/rice and small salad for $9.99 and the wife had puffy chicken tacos which she said was near the best she ever had! Sorry about no pics of the food as we started munching before I remembered to take pics.

We love El Guacamole for breakfast and decided to get a quick dinner there for the first time. DH got the cheeseburger with bacon added and loved it. It wasn't overcooked, the bacon was crispy, and the fries were hand-cut. It was topped with lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and pickles. Not a bad meal at all for about $10!Our server brought several hot sauces, too. The only disappointment there was the ketchup. The ketchup bottle said was full and the label said Heinz, but we could immediately tell that this ketchup didn't taste like Heinz and didn't have the same viscosity as Heinz. My dad had told me that his first job was in a Chicago area diner back in the day, and one of his tasks was to refill ketchup bottles with cheaper ketchup. He warned us to look at the labels and particularly look underneath the cap- the labels would have evidence of being washed and the underside of the caps would turn blackish from old dry ketchup. I flipped the cap off our full bottle and, very much to my surprise, it had old black ketchup crust inside. Looking at the bottle itself, the edges of the label looked like they were separating from the bottle, and they had some rippling from being wet. That could be from condensation if they were kept in a fridge, but this was a full bottle- and water damage to a label from condensation takes a long time... so how old was the bottle? Anyway, the cap said enough for me.I wanted to try the Parillada, and the server recommended the Mixta for one with beef, chicken, shrimp, two little cheese quesadillas, all the usual veggies, and a side of rice and beans. Everything looked great and it was a lot of food for the price of roughly $18, and there was plenty to take home. Would I get it again? No. The best thing on the Parillada was the shrimp, followed by the chicken (thigh meat) and, last place, the beef. The beef was sliced super thin, was chewy, and even gristly in a few pieces. The quesadillas were crispy on the outside. Overall, though, everything was on the bland side. A few wedges of lime helped, but not enough. Even the quesadillas were just OK. The cheese was very mild and bland, not the good kind of cheese that makes a quesadilla great.I'd maybe try another Parillada, but not with beef, or I might just try something else. I might even just stick to breakfast.

I saw this place as I was in the area and saw some Mexican workers walking out with food to go.....So I decided to try this out and I was hungry too....I came inside and they were busy for lunch hour. So I decided to enjoy the outdoors and sit outside under the Big Tree Had some Chips n Salsa and placed my order.....I ordered a Burrito with a side of Mexican rice with some limes.....Freshly made and hot plus flavorful.....perfectly cooked rice like if Mama or Grandma made it plus the Burrito was packed with Meat,Ensalada,Avocado and Queso in a bed of Frioles too....Muy Bein Hecho and very well priced for the portions. Very Friendly staff with smiles and good attitudes too...Plenty of parking next to gas station and off Blanco Rd. Very pleasant experience in the shade of the Big Tree too.

As many others have noted, we were upset to hear that the original owners had sold their restaurant, but we felt it fair to give the new owners a chance. People had made several comments about pricing being significantly higher, but no one in our party of 5 thought this, especially since we were not charged for chips and salsa as before. They also offer 3 different salsas of varying heat and flavor. They were all good, but my fave was the spicy red one. Amongst us, we had the enchiladas, chilaquiles, porkchop breakfast, barbacoa breakfast, and menudo. My friend raved about her enchiladas and the other about the porkchop. My other friend enjoyed the chilaquiles but did not love them. The barbacoa was solid, not fatty and overly greasy, plus it had good flavor. The papas were okay but needed salt. I like that they are done a la Mexicana because most restaurants do not offer this. Beans were standard. The menudo was not as good as the original owners', but it still hit the spot and the best in this area. Finally, the tortillas are fresh and homemade. They were very good. Service was friendly and attentive from our waiter to the manager. Over, glad we did give it a chance and will be back.

This is the new owner of what used to be Taqueria Aguascalientes #4, which was my happy place for lunch. Needless to say, I haven't loved the changes to the recipes, but it is improving. The crispy chicken tacos here have been the best in town for years, but with a recipe change with the new owners, they are just OK. I wish they would figure the chicken situation out as the shredded chicken was always delicious before. I have been up here a few times since the new owners took over and have tried various dishes. I still prefer the recipes from Aguascalientes, but every time I have been here, there are improvements from the prior visit. Today I had the Mexican Plat Deluxe--cheese enchiladas, puffy taco, chalupa, rice, and beans. Everything was good. Overall, the place is looking fresher, has new tables, new paint, new staff, and Pepsi instead of Coke. I miss the Diet Coke. It's still worth the drive from town.

I want to like the place and it's super close to my house, but I don't speak Spanish. And when I've asked questions about what's included in different plates or have questions, the waiter staff can't speak English enough to answer my questions. Tonight I wanted a simple burrito, just meat with rice, beans and cheese. I asked the waitress what was inside and I could tell she didn't know what I wanted. It came with meat, no rice or beans, but guacamole and sour cream which I think is gross hot. So I barely touched my meal and wasted $18 with tip. For this reason alone I typically eat somewhere else.

I have been wanting to come here for awhile given the reviews and distance to home. It didn't disappoint. I ordered three tacos to go: carnitas, pastor, carne asada. I also ordered them with corn tortillas. It's better this way.Didn't know what they came with and I wish they all came with cilantro and cebolla (onions). The pastor taco was soooo much better because of it. If they did it on every taco, it would have been perfect.Good value for the price. I think all three were around $12 in summer of 2024.Definitely want to come back.
