El Catrin

We love this place. Great drinks (try the Mescalita) and excellent food. Our current favorite is the Pequena flank steak. Order some side tortillas and it's amazing. Only minor quibble: the free tortilla chips are poor quality. This restaurant would be perfection with a slight upgrade in quality of the chips.

I recently visited El Catrin and it was an enjoyable experience overall. The restaurant offers a great variety of Mexican dishes, from classic tacos and enchiladas to more unique options. I opted for a classic margarita, and it didn't disappoint--refreshing and not overly sweet, just the way I like it. The atmosphere was cute, with friendly service and a cozy, colorful ambiance that really made it feel like a local getaway.Overall, if you're craving solid, flavorful Mexican food with a selection of drinks, El Catrin definitely hits the mark. Whether you're there for a casual meal or celebrating with friends, it's a solid choice.

This is my new FAVORITE Mexican food place!! If you want texmex and everything work chili con carne and government cheese, this is NOT your place! lol! Here you will find authentic Mexican dishes accompanied with great service! Carlos, the bartender is the BEST! I've tried the Sopes and they are SO deliciously soft and flavorful. The aguachiles are SPICY but if you're a glutton for punishment like me, you're in for a treat! The beans are so good and you should enjoyed them with the scrumptious chilaquiles. The Tlalpeño soup is so good but so are the red enchiladas! I've tried quite a few dishes but there is so much more to try and I can't wait to go back! Do NOT miss out on trying the margaritas Carlos makes. Just know, you only need a max of 2!... maybe!! lol! Do yourself a favor and try this place for delicious, FRESH food, strong margaritas and EXCELLENT service!!

Outstanding neighborhood restaurant and bar. Gret patio as well - with heaters and huge ceiling fans so delightful regardless of the weather. Complimentary chips with a non-traditional salsa that is very good. On this visit I had the chicken enchiladas with chipotle sauce - outstanding. My husband chose a chicken pasta with chipotle - also delightful. Their sauces are terrific, the chipotle had some zip - not overly spicy, just heavenly. Service was attentive without hovering. We don't often get dessert, but Gabrella described a Tres leche cake that sounded heavenly. This cake delivered! It was so light, so fluffy and so delish! Full bar. Traditional music, soft enough for great conversations. There are a couple TVs scattered around. Our close-to-home go-to!p.s. thought I took a pic of the tres leche - must have been too busy savoring the flavor to snap - guess we will have to go back soonest to get photo.

Ordered the Chilaquiles Sofia and I would absolutely recommend. Best ones in San Antonio. Service was amazing and atmosphere was fantastic.

This was the absolute worst dinner I have had in San Antonio. The chicken fajita tacos were not filled with fajita meat. They used roasted chicken that was full of gristle, extremely stringy accompanied by cheap low quality cheese. There was a waiter who disappeared and with the language barrier had no clue what I was trying to explain. My buddies steak was worse. An overall nightmare. We went here for a business meeting on a recommendation I'm assuming off these insane Yelp reviews. When the place is empty and they have no website. Run don't walk far away. The absolute bottom of the list. No way I'd eat here again. I wish they would let me give a 0. This place is fitting of a 0

After months of searching for a solid place on the northside with decent food and good drinks, this is it!Again, for a Mex spot to be good, they have to have solid, rice, beans, salsa, & tortillas.Everything is fresh and off the top of my head, can't remember if the tortillas are solid.The staff is also friendly and very attentive.My gf loves their enchiladas.Usually they have a few TVs going showing whichever sporting event is on. I've also seen them throw parties for special events on their deck outside. Overall a mostly chill setting.Come give this place a try!

It was so difficult to figure out what I wanted to order because it was one of the most fun menus I've seen! Breakfast all day, tons of different Mexican and TexMex choices. Just looking at the menu it was one of those times when I said, we have to come back here!The decor/ambiance was great, service so friendly, food turned out to be excellent (starting with the house salsa for the chips) and the prices were very reasonable. This is a spot I am going to tell people they have to check out when in SATX!

The service was fantastic!!The food was yummy and the staff was so friendly and welcoming chips were fresh even the sauce was not too hot to enjoy !!! Atmosphere was great and had. Good light. Bathroom was clean and. That's so important recommendation love your place!!!!!

We decided to try @elcatrinsa today. For a Monday, the place was hopping.Dad had Lemonade, Hubby had the Pacifico beer, and I had a Michelada. The complimentary chips and salsa was spicy. Dad had the Pancakes de Bananas and scrambled eggs. Hubby had the Tampiquena de Res with Mole enchilada. I had the Filete a la Plancha, which was a sea bass filet. All the food were delicious. Antonio was a good server.
