After a quick Google search (as well, as a search on a certain FB San Antonio Restaurant group) for one of the best barbacoa places in San Antonio, I came across Del Rio Tortilla Factory. I also wanted to see what this whole Big Red and barbacoa hype is about (I also haven't had good barbacoa since I was a a kid going to Juarez with my grandpa). Small line but it really wasn't that bad. Once we got to the counter, we asked the kind lady what the difference was between the Special and Regular barbacoa. She said that the Special is just cheek, while the Regular has all that stuff, like the head and other stuff, in there. We paid $28 for a pound of the Special (fills a pint), 10 flour tortillas, 5 buñuelos, 1/2 a dozen tamales, pico de gallo, red salsa and of course, a Big Red (they were out of limes, so we stopped at another restaurant to buy some). *This establishment does not have seating and all is to-go*Now onto the food:Although, it wasn't too greasy, the barbacoa had no flavor once I scooped up some on the delicious tortillas they made. I feel like the salt and pico de gallo took away from what I was supposed to be tasting. So, I moved onto the tamales. Man, was that the biggest let down ever! I couldn't believe how small they were (my apple WATCH silicon band is thicker than the tamales). Not only that, but they too, lacked flavor. There was zero spice that even my four year old and my husband who both hate spicy foods, were able to eat them. I'm just gonna say it... They were a complete embarrassment. The only thing that was great about this place, was the tortillas and the buñuelos... and of course, the Big Red.I really do wish I could find some good barbacoa like the locals are always talking about. If any of you San Antonians who grew up having barbacoa (and tamales) in both El Paso and Juarez, could recommend some places, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. P.s. I just reheated some more for dinner but I added just a tiny bit of Knorr beef flavored bouillon, and ate it on a corn tortilla with fresh onions and cilantro with a little squirt of lime and WOW, much better! But I shouldn't have to do that to make this pound of barbacoa edible.

This place showed up on Yelp as I was searching for a new breakfast taco place. It was well reviewed so I decided to give it a try. I ended up getting barbacoa tacos, 10 tamales for later and their green salsa. The tacos were fresh and amazing, their tamales were flavorful and the best in SA and we loved the salsa (I'm stocking up on their salsa next time)! Would highly recommended!

The employees are very informative. I had never been there and asked if I could taste a tamale. I was given one fresh and hot. It was good. I'm not a tamale fan and was only there for my sister. A woman came in, and she's been getting their tamales for years and refers to everyone she knows. I can see why. $10.50 a dz. They are small, but very good!

Best flavored Barbacoa and best Tortillas, we drive from Katy Tx and load up! We freeze and take some for my Son in Laws that love their Barbacoa who by the way like in New Hampshire and Maryland! And yes they also have great service no matter how busy they are! They mean so much to my family, they were so good to my parents when us kids were not around to keep an eye on them!
