Classic San Antonio Texas Mex. Great food, great prices, great service. Some of the best extra refried beans I've ever had. Total gem.

Good pit stop on our way to see the eclipse! The food was Tex-Mex and offered some American breakfast options such as pancakes. I ordered the chilaquiles plate. I was not too impressed by the green sauce a bit too sour and not spicy enough for my taste, but I do understand the options are mild to meet the Avery dinners palate. Definitely large portions, we ended taking some food home. The service was phenomenal! Our waitress was very nice, greeted with a smile and check on us to ensure we did not need anything else. The restaurant is a hole in the wall and many locals come to eat.

Went to grab breakfast after a run and stopped by. We made a fantastic choice! Daniel's Cafe was excellent. The food was so good and fresh. The service was excellent and prices were very affordable. My husband ordered the chorizo and egg plate, our son got the huevos rancheros and I had to try the lengua and tripa tacos as they are hard to find lately. OMG, everything was soooo delicious . The lengua was super tender and the best I've ever had, tripas were fresh and delish, the guys said the beans were super delicious as well as barcacoa and chorizo and eggs. The waitresses were so nice and kept coming back for refills but the overall experience was excellent. They play KLOVE(Christian music) and display spiritual messages. Love that. Excellent experience

Excellent service and consistent food. I stopped in for breakfast for the first time. The interior and exterior clean. The place has an overall good vibe. I enjoyed the paintings on the walls and the Christian music playing subtly. The breakfast menu is compact and has daily specials. I tried Fridays Huevos Rancheros. The plate was filled with goodness as you can see in the photo. Everything was done to the Texas standard. The eggs, bacon, potato, refried beans, and tortilla were tasty. The coffee was plentiful, but bring your own honey. My waitress ( Carolina) was awesome. She shared her own personal cookies with me because they had no pan dulce. The prices are great. I recommend this place, it falls into the category of a quick ,and easy spot for a bite to eat.

If you pass a place and there are trucks, cars bursting out of a restaurant's parking lot this should not be indicative of the quality of the product there. Tack on the city's most prestigious honor "The Blue Plate Award" and an illusion is set in place. Good food and perfect service rarely intersect. In its place the idea of hype materializes and makes us believe a place is such. Such was my experience at the much lauded "Daniel's Cafe"(no relation) in the Southside. I will not discredit the charms of a good "Hole in the wall" restaurant in the hood. In many respects that cuisine can be more noble than in a fancier setting. However as I have said before hype is a bubble waiting to be popped by the weight of its own reality. Why a one star? Firstly in a previous review I argued about places that choose to use social media via Google to advertise it. If you do this make sure your hours are aligned online with your business's signage. The hours say open at 6 am. I'm assuming that includes your dine-in hours. When I got there early morning at 6ish the dine in was closed but "to- go" wasn't. I must admit I was not a happy camper. To me time is money, more so than ever. I decided to come back at another appropriate time. The next time I came dine-in hours had just begun. It's very truckstop taqueria style, meaning servers are either going to cater to regulars or try to flirt with males for bigger tips. The thing is the place is kinda charming. I can see how people could be easily hoodwinked by it. It's pretty small with finite seating. This is where I diverge on popular opinion. Firstly I was the first patron to arrive. I don't expect niceties this early in the morning but at least the usual distribution of a menu followed by "que quieres tomar" when i'm seated. Instead the server was hobnobbing the whole time with her regulars, basically doing lapdances for a group of laborers who arrived moment's after me. The service was extremely slow. A wait for coffee. For food. For the bill. I know there's a labor shortage but there's a bigger one for good service. At this point I am probably just venting and should stop whilst I'm at it. However in my experience the irrefutable evidence is always in the product. So I ordered a carne quisada and bean & cheese taco. Again the service was slower than a sloth in a Rock and Roll Marathon. When the food finally arrived aeons later the plate was dirty. So when I asked the server to bring a clean plate I waited another rotation of the earth to get my food. When it arrived the tacos were all tortilla minus the fillings. Biting into the carne guisada there were like four small chunks of meat. The rest was all grease. My suspicion is that this batch was made with ultra cheap meat. I will say I did enjoy the bean & cheese taco. It was all lard, refried in manteca which reminded me of my old hood. Beyond that my experience here was dismal, an epic disappointment.Almost a decade on Yelp I've seen much lauded places fall under the weight by closer inspection. A business may be bestowed a major award by the powers that be. But it's usually for one aspect. To the true critic, reviewer-Yelper a place has to be good in many facets. Unfortunately Daniel's Cafe misses the mark, at least for me with ultra poor service and forgettable food. In addition if you use Google to advertise your business have the correct business hours. I like a good "Hole in the wall" as much as the next person. But I realize as noble as they can be not all of them are created the alike.

BEST refried beans on the SS Lunch specials under $10 w/tea or coffee. Most friendliest servers too! Always clean & bright. ALL of their food is great, hot & quick. My all-time favorite is the Mole Enchiladas (Wed Special). Don't 4get to order some refried beans "to go", great for bean'n cheese tacos, chalupas or nachos later
