Whenever it rains, I'm always in the mood for a big box of chicken! Che's is Southside Royalty having been in business for over 24 years, this spot had literally about ten cars waiting for hot and fresh chicken and sizzling burgers. I used to stop by when I worked for the state all the time! I'm very happy the neighborhood has kept them in business and from what I understand, they're very successful as well! Eat local San Antonio and check out Che's Chicken and Burgers! Chatman's may reign supreme on the Eastside, but in the South, it's all about Che's Che's Chicken and Burgers4303 S. Perfectly average burger joint. It's exactly what you'd expect when you pull up. That's the best way to describe it. The menu is basic burger/chicken joint fare. The ingredients are obviously food service sourced and they are prepared the usual way. Really, nothing special here, but it's food on par with other fast food. I had Che's Cheeseburger. I'm not sure what sets it apart from the Cheeseburger that is also on the menu. It was just your run-of-the-mill burger with tomato, lettuce, pickle, onion, and mustard. Don't get me wrong, it was fresh and tasted fine. The fries were fresh but could have been a little more crisp and flavorful- Under salted and no salt in the bag. They sold me on the apple pies which were hot and fresh, but you can find the same pies at other fast food restaurants. It looks like the building was originally a Dairy Queen. Service is walk up only. Oddly, there is no seating. Service was friendly and fantastic.

Oh my! This hidden gem is a San Antonio staple! I just discovered it 6 months ago and I wish I knew of it sooner. Their chicken is so good! I recommend the lemon pepper! I also enjoy their fries, if you like them crispy just put them in the air fryer for a better crisp!

Out of the way place but safe area with friendly customers outside waiting for their orders. It is a walk up window place with the prices and menu posted on the outside. It appeared clean. I was given a buzzer to hold until my order was ready. I waited in my car. The food was Fresh and hot. . Friendly greeter/ cashier. Prices were a little high but the chicken, roll and fries were perfect. Gizzards soft inside and crispy outside, not over breaded. The soda was flat but next time I will ask for reduced ice.

This is a little joint with no seating. You walk up the window and order. They are quick and I was greeted with a big smile. The menu had its namesakes, chicken and burgers, but also fish, many sides and desserts. Yeah so I would recommend the chicken to anyone. It was really good. The breast piece I had was a little over fried so some of the skin stuck to the meat but the taste was on point. Really liked the chicken. The fish not so much. Maybe in the sandwich but as standalone pieces I was not impressed. I should have known when they were square lol I was hoping it would be like catfish strips or something but it's just white fish filets I believe. Nothing wrong with that but as I said more of a sandwich piece of fish than a standalone order. I really just wanted to try it. I didn't get the burger although when I come through again I'll see what it's about. They're friendly, they're quick, and I would def go back for the chicken so that's all I need. Give this place a try.

Food was so good! Worker was nice and patient because I had no idea what to order! They have a variety of options! We got cheeseburgers, fries, tenders, biscuit and mashed potatoes! It was really good! There is no where to sit since you just order at the window so you can take it to go or eat in the car like we did. It's also in front of a little motel that was featured in the Selena movie with Jennifer Lopez! I recognized it right away. Pretty cool! I will def come back!

When I posted the initial picture of the bag and it had the hallmarks of an elite hood establishment, I was dumb excited. You know the telltale signs: the order written on the bag, the cash only transactions, and of course the grease stains that turn the bag fibers translucent like the mosaics at a Catholic Church... it feels like you're about to be blessed for sure.Unfortunately it was actually the franchise that never was. The walk up store front has a large menu with all the prices and the kind lady takes your order on the bag. The prices are very friendly; the cash only joint has a variety of options. We chose a chicken leg, a chicken sandwich, the Che's bacon cheeseburger, fries, and an apple pie. I drove to the nearby Mission Park for a comfy seat and laid out my loot. My initial excitement soon turned to pretty ho hum results. The chicken combo was pretty regular, very much like Church's, which not a bad thing but I expected more; it wasn't bad and was juicy but that's about it. The chicken burger which super hyped up was a pretty standard chicken patty with a regular bun; better than a BK Chicken but is that the bar? Speaking of which, the apple pie I was anticipating was a Golden Arches doppelgänger; just a tad crispier but nothing I would rave about. Hood joint burgers are typically greasy, loaded with flavor, and often overkill. Che's Bacon Cheeseburger wasn't all that greasy, had a good taste, and wasn't overkill. This time the muse was your standard #5 at Whataburger. The mustard and mayo combo did stand out on an otherwise slightly above average burger. The fries were the standouts; homestyle crinkly cut, fat, salty fries were the only flashback to the hood joints of yesteryear.Look, it's not a bad place and I'm sure folks in the neighborhood swear by it, but sometimes nostalgia gives a shine to spots that actually are a little less stellar. Add the fact this almost seems like this is the little franchise that never was, and you have a spot that's good enough for it's hood, but not hood enough to be good. Pro tip: I wanted to really love this place; growing up in the Southside of San Antonio, Griffs on Pleasanton was and still is the hood joint of preference. Check my review.

I tried this place a couple days ago and it was definitely well worth it. It was so good that me and my coworkers had to go back again the next day. Food was fresh and the workers here are wonderful. You definitely have to give them a try and very reasonably priced.

I don't know why these reviewers say awesome food and give them 3 stars. Do they want a reach around with their chicken?!?! I love Che's I suggest it to anyone looking for fried chicken. It's crispy and delicious. Burgers are good as well so if you wanna go to the south side for a treat head on down. You won't be disappointed!
