We visited Casa Rio on the San Antonio Riverwalk to celebrate my husband's birthday. The location is absolutely stunning, with a beautiful waterfront view and a lively atmosphere. Watching the boats pass by while dining made for a memorable experience. The food was also fantastic; everything we ordered was flavorful. However, the service left much to be desired. Our server seemed rushed the entire time, making us feel unwelcome. The biggest disappointment was when I requested a small dessert with a candle for my husband's birthday, and the server flat-out refused. I escalated my concern to the manager, and while I'm unsure if any action was taken, they instead arranged for mariachis to sing a birthday song. While I appreciate the gesture, it wasn't what I had requested or expected.Overall, Casa Rio offers a great dining experience in terms of food and ambience, but the service needs significant improvement. A little more attentiveness and customer care would go a long way in making special occasions truly special.

Very average Mexican food this place is always rushed so they do not let you customize the menu- it is how it comes. No substitutions- which's I hate because I like certain items vegetarian. Chips and salsa were extra- the street corn didn't come with a lot of chips. Ambiance was good. They even took your pic to sell it back to you.

Casa Rio: Still Riverwalk Royalty After All These YearsStepping back into Casa Rio after nearly half a decade felt like stepping back in time - in the best way possible. This iconic Riverwalk restaurant, opened since the 40s, has clearly kept its finger on the pulse, because the menu had some seriously tasty upgrades.Snagging a table right on the river? Bonus points! The ambiance alone is worth the visit. Now, about the food. I went with the chili con carne, and let me tell you, this was Texas chili in its purest form: a glorious mountain of pork with a hint of sauce. It was a solid contender, but a little more heat would've taken it to the next level. And I'm not talking spice - the temperature could've used a boost. Flavor-wise, it leaned more towards "carne con chili" than the other way around, but a touch more seasoning would've sealed the deal.Next up: the shrimp cocktail. This arrived with a fiery salsa studded with chunks of avocado. The shrimp were so cold, they practically snapped to attention - no worries about freshness here! The taste was spot on, and that generous dollop of salsa was the perfect finishing touch. And the best part? Neither dish sent my blood sugar into orbit, which is a major win in my book.Overall, Casa Rio still holds its own as a Riverwalk classic. A solid 4.1/5, and I'm already planning my next visit.

We went on a Wednesday night at the Riverwalk and it was amazing. We even had a mariachi band play for us while at dinner which was super cool. There were a lot of people out here and this is definitely somewhere. I can't wait to get back to oh yeah, and the food was amazing along with the drink drinks!

Located at the riverwalk it's decent place for lunch and family friendly. We had chips and salsa and the street corn as starters, the street corn was particularly good and I especially liked the chips that come with it. For main dish I had the fajitas with beef the meet was good and soft and the portion was filling. The enchiladas trio and deluxe dinner were also good. Great service.

I see people's reviews saying they feel rushed here, but duh! You're on the riverwalk with a bunch of tourists. They do the best they can and they're making sure everyone gets a table at an adequate time. They said the wait would be 45mins and it was like 15 so heck yeah! We also had outside drinks and they let us keep them under the table which was so nice because they didn't have to do that, but we didn't see the sign. Very nice of them. The view is so beautiful so definitely sit outside! Food came super quick. I wish the cheese inside the enchilada was a bit more melted but oh well. Is it the best Tex Mex you can get in San Antonio? No, but it's a great vibe!

So we've been here a few times in the past, I'd say anytime we come up to San Antonio. This day in particular I'm not sure who was in the kitchen but all plates were bad except the shrimp ceviche which thankfully I had but truly dont think a martini glass of shrimp is enough for $15.99. My mom had the beef tacos and I dont understand how you mess up tacos! I will say the best part was the skinny margarita, worth it! Also, they now charge for chips and salsa!!! In Texas most Mexican places if not all....this is standard aka free but not here.

We opted for Cafe Rio after exploring the Alamo and River Walk. The restaurant takes up a huge portion of the river walk which allows seating both indoor and outdoor, on multiple levels. The menu is large which plenty of offerings at a very reasonable price. I would have liked the chips and salsa to be complementary, but then again the prices of entrees are low so I understand why the chips and salsa are an additional fee. I would say this was close to authentic Mexican food, we were hoping for that and it TexMex, so if you are too this is a safe bet. We tried the Deluxe Dinner Entree, chips, and salsa. The salsa was delicious, fresh and full of tomatoes and onions. The quality of the food was fine, not great, and the portions were decent. We enjoyed our meal, but would likely try another spot if we found ourselves in the area again.

The waitress was nice and fast. Came to check on us too, even gave me some big napkins so I can sit on them since I didn't want to sit where all the birds were lol the view was nice but the birds wow they run the place lol I had to shoooo shoooo them away and locals laughed at me lol the food was Tex mex and well I'mFrom San Diego so it was very different but fresh and warm. No salsa and chips free like I'm used to but it was okay. Service wins here, next time I'll sit inside hehe ooh and it as so cheap too! We are and were full. It was cheaper than a drive thru. My hubby got sombrero meal and it was okay.

This was by far the best meal we had while in San Antonio. Elizabeth was the most fabulous server and the top shelf margaritas are created by angels themselves. If there was an option to give more stars I would.
