We were waffling between three places to go for a bite. Boy, did we ever choose right! This relatively new hidden gem should be on everyone's list. They turned on the patio heater for us, and everyone was SO WELCOMING! Our server was Bunny. She is a ray of sunshine. We asked for frozen 'Rita's and they are amazing! We ordered the Campechana & empanadas. So good! The Campechana was chock full of shrimp, octopus, and veggies with an utterly amazing sauce. The empanadas have chorizo and Oaxaca cheese. They were perfectly fried, too. The entire restaurant is decorated with holiday accoutrements and Dia de los Muertos themes. The restaurant is in the old Fig Tree space, and while the menu is small (great choice!), everything that came out had amazing depth of flavor. The other dishes we saw looked delicious, too. Put this place on your "must-visit" list. If you are down on the Riverwalk, the entrance is easily missed as it is sandwiched between Prost Haus and Smoke, but don't pass them by!

Not sure how this place ever got a decent rating. This is the second time I've been here but first time reviewing. Yelp and google have their hours as 11 pm and nowhere does it state the kitchen closes early so we arrive and are told that the kitchen closes in 15 minutes, which was ok with us because we knew what we wanted. We quickly ordered and were told they were out of salsa. SALSA!!! A Mexican restaurant out of salsa ? We were never brought silverware nor napkins, and nobody liked the food. We ordered fried fish tacos and we were brought "sautéed" fish tacos and then we were told "the kitchen assumed you wanted sautéed since they already shut the fryers down before you arrived". So then they brought fish tacos as a substitute and they were horrible. The kids ordered mac and cheese, corn dogs and cheese quesadillas and the quesadillas tasted like they used old stale tortillas. The "fried " corn dogs were not well received by any of the kids which is crazy because they love corn dogs. Just all around not a great experience.

I love the dia de muertos vibes the place has! It's definitely a place to visit during Halloween but we went for Christmas - funny enough. Every year my family eats at a restaurant along the river walk. Casa Catrina decor is fab and the outside seating area during Christmas was magical! The food - O M G. I have zero complaints outside of the lack of more options but honestly what they have on their menu - they have perfected. The salsas were fabulous- the carnitas tacos were AMAZING!The service was fantastic! They have an upstairs so just fyi. The price is a little steep but it's along the rivals it's to be expected.

The perfect spot along the riverwalk for tequila and tacos. I recommend. Details below. Visited on a Saturday afternoon around 11:30, party of 2, seated immediately. Outdoor seating is tiered on 2 levels facing the riverwalk with a lot of space between the dining area and the pedestrian walkway. Other riverwalk restaurants have seating in the walkways. 1st visit. Had hurricane cocktail made with tequila and watermelon margarita. Tasty. Are shrimp tacos and ceviche. Authentic interior of Mexico food. Definitely dine in.

Made it here during Dia de los muertos parade. Service was great and the place has a cool ambiance. You are right off the riverwalk so it's got nice outdoor views. Started with some margaritas. The standard frozen margarita and the ELIXAR de margarita. Both very tasty. To eat we ordered the Tinga del inframundo tacos. And also the Rito Acuatico. The food was good but not to die for. Mainly you come here to enjoy the ambiance and views.

Nice looking restaurant in a cool location but ...Service and atmosphere:Atmosphere was good. Nice music, great views of the river walk, however, this is where it ends.Service was not the best. The staff gave impression that they couldn't be bothered and were not attentive at all. We had to ask for small plates for starters, silverware, and napkins.Food and drinks:Sangria was good but, again, arrived way after the stater was served and we had to ask the waitress to check on the drinks.Tacos were okay. Carnitas taco was dry but salsa helped to moisten it a bit.We had to cancel the order of chips and guacamole and slaw as we waited more than 40 minutes for it. There is no excuse for waiting this long for chips and guacamole!Pricing:Average.Unfortunately, I don't recommend this place.

My coworker and I had a great dinner -with a view- on the patio of the San Antonio River walk. Our server, Nico, was very attentive & a able to answer all the questions we had about the food & drink menu. We enjoyed some live music playing next door during our dinner. They have heat lamps for the colder months which is a great. I would definitely dine here again.

We went to Casa Catrina just as they were opening so we were the only ones there--but there was a lot of staff hanging out! Our waitress did a great job and was very attentive. The motif was heavy on the Mexican celebration, Day of the Dead. It was well done and unusual. We ordered the Grand Marnier margaritas that were excellent. Additionally, we ordered Guacamole, three salsas, and chips. We did not care for the whole corn tortillas that freshly fried, very greasy, and hard to break up.

Location is great, perfect to walk around to other spots and plenty of pay to park. Plus there's always some sort of event/festival going on at La Villita. They really stuck to their theme and one of few restaurants that actually plays music to fit the establishment. On Saturday food and service was very delayed. It came out so late we were extremely hungry and our kiddos patience had ran out. Drinks were all made differently. We ordered 3 rounds of the same cucumber marg not a single one came out the same. But we still drank them. The food was cold but had good flavor. Their salsas hold their own. Absolutely spicy and delicious.
