For breakfast we both had huevos rancheros with him having asada and me barbacoa. Everything was delicious, authentic and freshly made (including the tortillas). The best part was the value, lots of food for a reasonable price! My husband was in love. Highly recommend!"

Jada B. "We have been to Alamo Cafe for 10+ YEARS! Recently dined in for lunch and the experience/food there was average. The carne quisada that we LOVE from there does not taste the same anymore. The homemade tortillas still ROCK! But our favorite dish left more to be desired. We ordered a small queso for the table and even that was not earth shattering. Sigh! I guess when you are in operation for as long they have, things begin to fall off course like quality control. Not sure we will be back again. Was just "meh." Not great. Not terrible. Just nothing to write home about."

Sarah G. "We had been wanting to try puffy tacos since arriving in San Antonio. We searched through dozens of restaurants and lo and behold, this place was right around the corner from our hotel. (We almost drove 25 min to one across the city)The girl at the counter was very friendly and helpful. A fellow customer overheard me tell her this was our first time getting puffy tacos and she told me that this was her FAVORITE place for puffy tacos. She has been coming for YEARS. We ordered 2 puffy taco plates, one with the tortilla soup and then a few puffed tacos on the side. We all agreed that the puffy tacos were AMAZING. The soup was just ok. I offered for chicken to be in it but I didn't see any. I added some of the salsa to it to make it more flavorful. As for the free chips and salsa... wow. The salsa is SPICY. I like spice and it was hot. The interior and the restrooms were the nicest. Felt more "dive" or "hole in the wall-ish." We're not fancy though. We'll definitely return when we're in town next!"

Esme N. "What a neat place! Came here for lunch and my party of 3 was seated right away. It was my very first time coming here and it definitely felt like home! I love all the funky decor. I ordered the ground beef puffy taco plate and crispy dogs as an appetizer. The crispy dog was the best one I've had. So delicious. This place is famous for their puffy tacos, though. I liked them, but I think the oil that the tortillas was fried in was not fresh and I could taste it. I also thought the rice was a bit dry. It had good flavor, but it was so subtle, it kinda just tasted like white rice. So I'd really like to see the flavor on the rice really amped up. The salsa that is served with the chips was not spicy at all and really disappointing. Also not a lot of flavor on that either. I'd come here again and bring folks from out of town! It's an experience for sure!"

I prefer a whole slice of bacon in my bacon and egg taco, but it was good.My bean and cheese was DELICIOUS! Lots of flavorful beans and the cheese was American, even through I prefer cheddar, it was still VERY TASTY! Will come back to try their chilaquiles."

We walk in and were immediately greeted to sit at a booth. It wasn't crowded at all. Very clean, workers took precautions. The waitress was very nice, polite with a smile big as gold. LOL. Had the pina colada it was very strong but good. The bean dip with the chips was awesome. Great taste. My friend had the tacos which they said were excellent. My mother had the Mango margarita let's say she was feeling quite nice and wavy lol after this drink. It was more than enough. Everything was cooked to perfection. I was happy with the service."

Both blew us away. This is officially the better La Gloria location. The menu is a hybrid of the Pearl La Gloria and the formerly amazing but now closed El Machito. The atmosphere is even better than the one on the Riverwalk, thanks to the very classy and beautiful folk art everywhere and the gorgeous live oak trees that they maintain on the property. The outdoor seating is so peaceful, but it's also gorgeous inside. The staff is so friendly and attentive. The coconut mojitos are my favorite! The fresh tortilla chips are a beautiful touch and not at all greasy. Great homemade tortillas. I can tell they use a special corn for the corn ones. Their salsa is understated but addictive. Very similar to food I've had in Mexico. High quality ingredients. I cannot say enough nice things!"

Misty M. "Out of all the taquerias and Mexican restaurants in the area, this place has been my go-to spot for breakfast tacos for a while now. And I've tried every Mexican restaurant's breakfast tacos around the Churchill HS area for comparison. I love the guero and TNS tacos the most. The quality is pretty consistent. Prices are a little more than average but the it's worth it. Once in a while the tacos might be a little smaller than I like, but for the amount of times I've eaten here, it's ok. I've had smaller tacos from so many other restaurants that it's almost the norm now. The salsa bar is a huge plus so you can change up your flavors but it's a small area so it can take a little bit to get your salsas. Their service is fast and has never been issue."

Service is great but the food...the FOOD is delicious. The gravy on their beef enchiladas is stupid good. Almost certain it's their carne guisada gravy on top of enchiladas. Now my mouth is watering. Joy S. "Great place for some fun food. Burgers, hot dogs and fries, but with a Mexican twist. They have a large colorful seating area in the food court including an outdoor patio tucked to the side of the stand. My husband loves mole so he jumped at the chance to have mole fries (fries covered in mole, queso fresco, crema and pickled onions). My mom was excited to have a Mexican Street Dog (hot dog wrapped in bacon and topped with tomatillo ketchup, manchego cheese, jalapeños, onions and tomatoes) after getting hooked on them in LA. I wanted a mangonada. And then the machine was down. . I ended up ordering the Big Tex Crispy Dog (hot dog wrapped in a crispy tortilla and topped with chili con queso, grilled onions, bacon, avocado and chipotle-lime mayo). We were all very pleased with our selections even if I didn't get what I originally wanted. Everything was full of flavor and absolutely hit the spot. It's pricey, but everything is when you are confined to an arena. Definitely a place we would all eat at again."

Blue B. "The key to this classic diner is to stick with what has brought them their well earned glory over the years, and to stay away from the things that don't matter in the grand scheme of things. Yes, the restaurant has seen much better days. It is rough around the edges and someone needs to come in and give some relief to what looks to be an exhausted staff. But let us not lose sight of this restaurant's major contribution to the San Antonio dining landscape: the puffy taco. I dined here for lunch today, and the delectable ensemble of perfection is as good as it has ever been. The puffy taco is a culinary wonder. The shell is a perfect combination of lightness, chewiness, softness, and crunchiness. Complemented perfectly by homemade beef or chicken and a thin, red housemade salsa. If this is not enough for you, I'm not sure what to tell you."
