"Late Post: Dined in for lunch on 12/07/2023I enjoyed my first dining experience at Wood Fire Grill & Bar. CUSTOMER SERVICE is absolutely SUPERB! I hate that I can't remember our server's name. The food was COOKED TO PERFECTION! Although it's a restaurant, it felt more to me like I was at home with my family eating good southern food! The AMBIENCE is the best. The restaurant was so CLEAN which is hard to come by nowadays. We didn't have to wait a long time to receive our food after ordering. MAJOR PLUS! I can't wait to eat here again, and I hope my experience is the same."
"My girlfriend found this place and saw that it had good reviews, so we decided to try it out. Once we arrived parking was a bit difficult to find (especially on a Wednesday), since it's in a small area. Once we arrived we were greeted and quickly seated. The atmosphere was nice and had a romantic bar vibe.Once seated we ordered drinks and an appetizer (the artichoke dip) and also ordered our main courses. I ordered the Breaded Chicken and my girlfriend ordered the Basil Chicken. Both came with soup or salad, which we both ordered the soup. One chicken tortilla soup and one soup of the day. Shortly after our waitress brought us rolls w/ butter which were nice, delicious, and warm.Later our appetizer arrived, which had a nice presentation but did not have any flavor at all. It was bland and the pita chips had to be eaten with it since they had saltiness to add with it. Once we received our main courses, we were excited (since the plates looked great). But after eating the food we both were disappointed. The pasta with the Breaded Chicken was very bland and the crust was sliding off the chicken. It was very difficult to eat. As for the Basil chicken plate, the kale was not tasty at all. It had a salty kick and then a bitter aftertaste. We had told our waitress and once she spoke to the manager she provided a 10% discount for the inconvenience.I'm sorry, but I give this place 3 stars. We left disappointed, and even with the discount it was still overpriced for the taste of the food."

"This was unexpectedly excellent. I just needed a quick burger but instead I was treated to one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Drive thru was super fast and the burger was freshly cooked and piping hot. Not much more to say. Five stars."
"Nice, big dining room excellent service very pleasant staff big chicken fried steaks creamy mashed potatoes don't forget you need dessert"
"A sandwich place that gets 5 star review? Absolutely, the Ultimate could be my all time favorite sandwich. And the staff is really friendly and helpful too."
"We stayed at the Drury Plaza Hotel and walked across the parking lot and I'm so glad we did! I had the Bourbon Glazed Salmon and it was amazing! The sides were fresh and delicious. My son had a kid's pizza and he was happy as well. Great experience!"
"This is an awesome experience for the kiddos! Ambience takes you back in time. The staff really keep the vibe exciting and fun! Birthday here birthday there... every where is a happy birthday song! I'd recommend for adults a burger and salad bar. There's face painting, balloons and a game room. My grandkids had a blast! Wonder which character we'll get next time???"
"It was a good experience. The service was great and the food was okay. The star of the show were the fresh dinner roles, but everything else was just okay. The ambiance is a little bit of a Time Machine warp of the 70s but it was tidy. Wouldn't know if I'd go back, but glad we tried it out. The salad wasn't too fresh and my steak was cold, but my son was enjoyed his grilled cheese."
"Came in to get out of the heat and to have 1 more drink before leaving San Antonio River Walk. I got the coconut something. Actually my friend ordered, and I just said the same. The drink was delicious, with a great coconut flavor. It was cold, refreshing, and I drank it down pretty quickly. We did order fried pickles and chips and salsa as well to share. I really liked the salsa. It was a little chunky, with a medium heat. Fried pickles were great too. Waitress was nice. It was a nice end to our day at the River Walk"
"First, let me start off by saying the place looked and smelled clean. No longer was it the dirty smelling, sticky floored place of my childhood. Big plus. Not so much of a plus, the lighting situation. But let me get to the food. Service, was great. Our waitress was sweet, quick, checked on us often. Loved the service. But let me tell you what I didn't love. The food. Least favorite, the baked potato. It's a potato wrapped in foil, tossed in an oven I assume and brought to table in said foil. Poke a few holes, season the outside..do something more with it! It was a depressing bite. The chicken fried steak was bland and an incredibly small portion for the price. Looked like a frozen piece of meat that was heated and served with goopy thick gravy that may have been sitting out for a bit (mind you we were there about noon). Also, can the restaurant explain their chicken tender policy? A kids meal is 8 bucks and comes with a single tender. So I figured, you know let me order the adult tender meal for my 2 Littles to split...it's literally $17 for 2 tenders and a handful of fries!? What? Also why are the fries seasoned better than the chicken or chicken fried steak??The steak and shrimp, incredibly pricey but not as flavorful as other steakhouses. The shrimp were cooked well but again, no seasoning. I will say the tartar sauce was delicious. I'm also glad the green goddess salad dressing recipe is the same from my childhood. The salad though...mostly the overly crunchy thick white cuts from the lettuce. No actual leafiness. It also leaves a lot of water in the salad bowl, which wasnt very appetizing. Overall, it felt like a nostalgic visit that left me questioning my childhood memories. I remember visiting this restaurant with family for every special occasion but now, I don't think I could ever return."
"Not the best breakfast place. I've been here a couple times and food is always sub-par. Nothing crazy, cups and utensils were dirty. Management and workers were overwhelmed. I would definitely go to Comfort Cafe next time!"
"A casual, clean and friendly spot with very well seasoned food. We tried a large variety off the menu. The chicken was absolutely delicious. Made to order, large pieces, crispy, juicy and so much flavor! We cleaned every piece until there was nothing left. Cabbage is a must try but you won't be disappointed in the greens, yams or Mac either. I don't like cornbread however, this was fluffy, moist and extra sweet. Portions are huge, especially on the meatloaf. Price is very reasonable for the Alamo ranch area. My only negative would be the waffles were spongy - more like a pancake. Needed to be on the iron a little longer. We had pecan and strawberry both worth the $1.00 upgrade. Expect a longer wait when ordering chicken because of cook time."

Here from California and staying at a hotel that does not have a restaurant. I ordered the American burger, Jalapeno Mac n cheese, with a side salad and had it delivered to my hotel. The burger was perfect medium, with crispy THICK bacon, mayo and the rest is history. It was a big burger! The Mac and cheese had the perfect amount of heat topped with a side salad, because why not?! I'm satisfied and thankful that my first experience in TX was a great one. Cheers!

So...I've been wanting to try this place for a while. I've been on the hunt for the best burger in the city. I've been to Chester's. I've been to Chris Madrid. I happen to think those were pretty solid burgers. Not a 5 but at least a 4.5. I'm going to give the same rating to this burger. The picture shows a beautiful burger and that it was. I do wish it was seasoned or seasoned more (the patties themselves). I think if so, I would easily give this a 5 star and give this the best in the city. The sauce they use lacked much flavor as well. I'd rather have had extra mayo and that would have been really good. Otherwise, it's a burger I'd have again, hands down. I purchased through the drive through on a Sunday evening and service was not fast but not terribly slow. For a freshly prepared burger & fries, I wouldn't expect to be in & out (pun intended) in a few minutes. I really didn't mind the wait.

Came here with my family for the first time on a beautiful sunny afternoon for lunch. We sat outside among the fluffy chickens and turkeys which made my kiddos super happy. The food was actually great! Everything was fresh, and the ranch dressing was amazing. The only thing we didn't like was the frog legs but honestly, I got them with my father-in-law just to try and was not expecting to like them anyway lol. The atmosphere was amazing, our waitress was incredibly helpful and so sweet. The service was fast and the play structure for the kids was a lot bigger than expected! All in all everything was great and we will be back again!

I've been here before. Great spot, nice servers, and delicious food. I ordered the orchard sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was almost ready when I showed up, but I had to wait right in front of the dessert display. I ordered the lemon bar instead of the brownie and headed back to work. The sandwich and fries were very good; fresh lettuce, hot fries, and quality fixings, as usual. But the lemon bar, well for you Bake Off fans, it definitely would've gotten a handshake from Paul. I make lemon bars, and this is the best I've ever had. Not too sweet, not too tart, very short crust with a visible small layer of a beautifully cracked top. Pure heaven. I'll check out the brownie next time.

Ooof ! The food was horrible. The only things we enjoyed were the salad and bread, which both are hard to mess up. You definitely come here for the experience. It's super cute inside and the servers are silly and definitely work hard. Would I come back? No , but it was forsure fun for my daughter's birthday.Oh also there was face painting and it was $18!!!!! Which is absolutely crazy! You'd think Picasso was painting faces for god sake. Horrible !

I'm in San Antonio on a temporary assignment, and I was tasked to find a good spot for dinner with a couple of co-workers, one of whom had to depart early. Not knowing if I would ever see them in person again after this trip, I had to be selective in deciding how best to bid farewell to him, at least for the time being. We had agreed on a nice steak dinner, but left the decision up to me on where to go.I'll be honest here, I was actually looking at a couple of Brazilian steakhouses by the Riverwalk, but as luck would have it, neither had reservations available for that night. I frantically searched online to find the best spot for all three of us, and I chose The Barn Door right off the 410 loop east of the 281. One of my Yelp friends from San Antonio awarded it five stars, and there was also a Yelp check-in offer of a free tea. Also, the prices seemed pretty reasonable, especially compared to other steakhouses in the Alamo City.Reservations were available that night for time slots at 15-minute increments, but oddly enough, not at 7 PM, our agreed upon time. We then agreed 6:45 PM was a good time for dinner, and so I made the reservation, which was done through SpotOn.Two of us arrived at 6:30 PM, and the hostess was willing to seat us even though the third person (not me lol) was a little late. We chose to wait, and then once he arrived, we were taken to our table in the Main Dining room.We were sat at a table between the open kitchen and a wall, which almost looked like a jail. Jewel (sp?) came by to introduce herself as our server. She was just that, a jewel! She did seem a little bashful since it was kind of hard to hear her, but it was only moderately loud at best during our visit, so it wasn't much hard of hearing here. Other than that, I enjoyed having her take good care of us!She started us off with drinks, and that's when I realized I had to check in to show her my Yelp check-in offer. She didn't recognize it at first, and then I had to tell her. I almost thought she was going to charge me for the tea, but luckily she didn't.Each of us chose an appetizer to share with one another. The others chose Fried Mushrooms and Fried Jalapenos. I chose the Wild Boar and Venison Sausages. Each of them came with their own sauce(s), and they were all good! It's worth mentioning there are nuances in the taste profile between Wild Boar and Venison, but they look so similar that even Jewel couldn't tell which was which. Did we care? No. Did we enjoy them? Yes!The others chose the Club Sirloin and Bacon Wrapped Tenderloin Filet as their entrees, both cooked Medium. I went with the 10 oz New York Strip, cooked Medium Well. I think my steak was a little undercooked, but I liked it better than the Ribeye I had at my hotel, which cost more than twice as much!As we were ordering, I didn't realize our entrees would come with a house or Caesar salad as well as a potato side. I had completely overlooked the bottom of the menu specifying that. There weren't that many choices for the potato side. One co-worker chose the mashed potatoes. The other chose the twice baked potato. I went with the (once) baked potato. Jewel asked if I'd like for it to be loaded, to which I answered affirmatively. For the salad, you get a choice of 5-6 dressings. I almost went with my go to, Honey Mustard, until Jewel mentioned there was Creamy Garlic, which sounded delish. And it was! The amount of dressing was pretty generous, and it was a generously-sized salad, much larger than a side salad!I enjoyed the (once) baked potato, which was loaded, but not fully loaded compared to the twice baked. The twice baked had more cheese, and I believe it also had jalapenos, which I didn't taste in my potato. However, there's a small upcharge for the twice baked; I don't recall how much of an upcharge it was.Everything was superb! There wasn't a bad bite that was had amongst the three of us. We had quite a bit of leftovers, and Jewel offered us takeout boxes and bags for each of us.We all enjoyed our meals, and both of my co-workers agreed I made a good choice for dinner that night. None of us had room for dessert, but I didn't want any anyways. Plus, the prices for the desserts weren't even shown on the menu, which I'm not sure why? A Southern Peach Cobbler would have hit the spot, but our appetites were more than satiated on this wonderful evening. In addition to the actual restaurant, there's a meat market as alluded to in the business name, but it was slim pickings at the time we went, at least for the display case out in front. Same with the desserts. We only saw a couple of pies and a cheesecake when we left. The interior decor is really nice! We appreciated how nicely decorated the interior was, and we were even in awe at a portrait of the restaurant from 1953!Thank you Barn Door for a wonderful dinner, and thank you Jewel for the wonderful service and hospitality! Keep up the great work Jewel! :)

"My second time eating here. My company had a dinner with about 20ish people. They handled our group well. Appetizers came out quickly. All of them were tasty that I got to try. Our meals were timed well and still the proper temperature. The scallops were prepared perfectly. Everyone was talking about how good it was the next morning and how much they enjoyed it."
"10 stars. It was the best right at walk in. They were so attentive and our waitress was the most pleasant person. Excellent character. The dishes were clean, nothing was stained or smelly. The reviews were true. Our experience was super. Our plates were fair portions for our selection. I loved that nothing was salty !!! We seasoned the amount we wanted. The Oreo pie was the best !! It wasn't overly sweetened. It was perfect, I was really surprised. They truly home make their recipes. I asked if they used real eggs, apparently, they do !!! 100 stars for y'all. Thank you for prompt service , fantastic team and a clean environment. Enjoyed it. Big Hugs to y'all."
"Parking in the back of restaurant. Got seated right away, order Ed specials of menudo and barbacoa taco and soda. . Waiter was very nice and attentive."
"Anchor Bar is an awesome spot! Denise was an incredible server--attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. The pickle hot wings were absolutely delicious, with just the right kick of flavor. They're a must-try! The atmosphere is perfect for watching sports, with plenty of screens and a lively vibe. Whether you're there for the food, the drinks, or to catch a game, Anchor Bar delivers on all fronts. Highly recommend it!"
"Family friendly. Big choice of meals. Quick service Good home style food. I would recommend this restaurant."
"First time here, we were in the neighborhood and hungry. Stopped in on a Friday afternoon around 4 pm. Not crowded at all. We elected to sit outside. Inside had lots of TV's with games on. Only 2 TV's located outside. Kara was our server, and she was outstanding! We had the Queso dip as an appetizer and it was pretty good. My wife had the B.A.L.T. sandwich. She liked it. It came with a lot of Bacon! I had the small order of boneless wings. Comes with 6. I had 2 each of Spicy Ranch, Medium Buffalo, and Jamaican Jerk. All were good, the Spicy ranch was a little hotter that I thought it would be. Will definitely get the Jamaican Jerk again. If you're in the area give this place a try. You'll be greeted by a friendly staff and receive great service!"
"Great local spot! Love the vintage look on the floors. Great food and great customer service. Food: I really enjoyed their wings. The tater tots were great too. I'll definitely come back and try their burgers and wings. Great local spot in new Braunfels. I love finding whole in the wall spots like this. The customer service was amazing"
"If I could give it more stars I would, this place is phenomenal ! Pricey, but you're getting what you paid for. Atmosphere is great, very inviting. The food was freakin delicious, me and my family cleaned our plates. Philly cheesesteaks for them and I got a pizza steak, so cheesy. My brother got beer on the house, they're generous with the sizes of margs beers and fountain drinks, so crisp. And the sweet potato fries are some of the best I've had. I'll definitely be returning and trying out more of what they have to offer"
"This new location is very pretty, we got a good server that made suggestions about the menu when we weren't sure what to order.Checked on us periodically and made sure we got what we needed.Me and my friends got the same salad, it was delicious and very filling. I couldn't even finish it.We also got the spinach and artichoke dip which is always good!Overall a good experience."
"I go to school in the area so a couple friends and I come to this diner often for breakfast and it's just a wonderful vibe!Everyone is always so sweet and attentive and honestly every time we have gone we have gotten extremely fast service, our breaks are about 45 minutes long and we normally make it back to class before break ends!Overall we will continue to come here and we appreciate everyone that works here!"
"Came here on a whim because the surrounding restaurants were already closed and I was pleasantly surprised. From first appearances, it seems like this might just be bar food and not have great quality but it was actually pretty darn good! It's worth the stop to eat here if you're looking for some good basic foods We were on the Riverwalk and it was about 10pm and all the surrounding restaurants were closing. We thought we would try this place. Walking in, it seemed that maybe it wasn't a great choice but we thought we tried anyways. The interior of the restaurants/bar seem like it hadn't been updated since probably the late '80s and I was starting to think it was just going to be bar food. Bar food meaning greasy fried whatever goes in your gut when you're having drinks. We were greeted by staff and looking over the menu they actually had your basic variety of foods other than just deep fried. They had hamburgers and Mexican food and other things as well. I ended up ordering a burger which was really good and not too greasy. All the vegetables were fresh and also the fries were really good! Others ordered the enchiladas which actually was of really good quality without being too salty. Overall, two thumbs up and we really enjoyed ourselves and enjoyed the food and the service! The interior decorating could use some updating as you can even still see a area where a DJ played from a wall of cds. But overall, the quality of the food and the service was great and I would eat here again."
"Top three best burgers in town and great local atmosphere. One of my happy places in SA."
"Upon arriving, I was kindly greeted by the owner. They had some good music playing. I loved the variety of the menu and how clean the restaurant was, especially the tables. The owner provided excellent service and was attentive. It seems like they are very connected and supportive of the community, which is truly awesome.I had the original Chicago hot dog and a wing + catfish combo. The food was well seasoned and prepared. All of the meats were well cooked and delicious and the fries were okay.I will definitely be returning!"
"Unfortunately, No Vegetarian burgers! Fries and Malts are great. They need a good veggie burger, not a plant based mush mash. A good plain veggie burger would be so great!"
"A gem in San Antonio. Cullum's Attaboy is somewhere between a French bistro and early 1900's San Antonio diner, serving an elevated brunch that will not be found anywhere else in this city. The staff wear white aprons and hats, classic jazz plays softly, and the space feels cozy yet effortlessly luxurious. The menu is concise yet interesting, featuring classics like pancakes and burgers, along with fine ingredients like escargots, truffles, and plenty of caviar. Order/pay at the counter, choose a table, and the staff will serve your food. Brunch for two set us back just under $100. Their Cortado was the best espresso drink I had in my 5 day visit to San Antonio. My husband's drip coffee was very good as well. Service was polite. You must order the 1915 Spudnuts. These are soft, pillowy donuts made from riced potatoes. Their exterior is delicately crisp, and the inside melts in your mouth and has a buttermilk pancake flavor. 10/10. Another must order is the Champagne Butter Poached Scallop. While $18 for two bites of food may seem steep, I assure you that it is well worth it. The scallop was delicately poached and impossibly tender, enhanced by a rich hollandaise and rainbow trout roe.The French Omelette was excellent, albeit slightly over salted. Skip the Baked Tomato French Toast. While a savory French toast sounded intriguing, it was ultimately an over baked salt/oil bomb. I quickly got palate fatigue. Regardless, this was my favorite meal in San Antonio, by far."
"I can't believe I haven't written a review about this place. My first time here, I would've given this place 3 stars. Why? Half my order was missing and the things that I really wanted were unavailable. This place is busy. They have an outdoor patio, a separate sunroom, and the main dining area. One thing I loved was the texas smashed potato. It is delicious. Got it again today.First time, I ate it with the 4 piece broasted chicken. This time, I had the shaved ribeye.Let me tell you about my favorite menu item...fried pickles! They have a slight kick to them. So delicious! Everything I've eaten has been good. The things that was great today was the friendly service from Richard. He gets all the stars."
"I had not visited this grill in some time. So I decided to give it a try and was professionally greated by a nice gentleman. He sat me in Sandy's section who promptly came to see if I needed a beverage. I received a fresh ice tea with lemon. I told her I was ready to order and I ordered the Chicken Taco Salad. It was freshly made with crisp lettuce, tomatoes, with side kicks of sour cream and avacodo. I didn't get a dressing as I asked for the salsa. It was so tasty that I asked for additional. They did have a great selection of daily specials and the cakes are home made by the owner I understand and are a heafty servicing I saw.All in all Sandy was jolly on the spot and got what ever was needed. You don't find outstanding wait staff like now days. Hats off to Sandy!Keep up the great work The 1838 Grill!!"
"The food was excellent and the dill slaw some of the best I have had in a super long time! The drive up window makes it convenient to get something for supper after a long day and you don't feel like going in!"
"Beefy's is about a 30 minute drive for me, but it's worth it because the Atomic Burger is the best burger I've had in a long time. I've seen other people complain about the fried pickles being too salty, but I thought they were great...I do love salt :) I recently stopped in and had the buffalo chicken sandwich. It was good but I'll be getting the burger again next time. The fries are a big enough serving for two people. I found the place to be clean, spacious and friendly staff."
"After driving by Obrien's for three years, I finally decided to eat here and it has Hill Country charm and southern menu. I had the Haddock fish plate with sautéed spinach, a glass of Chardonnay with wonderful company from a life-long friend. She's been suggesting we meet here for lunch or dinner as it's a mid-location between Boerne and Bulverde, in Bergheim, Tx.A local said that we had to try the Chicken fried steak, so I guess I'll be stopping in again."
"Sherrys Texan never ceases to amaze me. Thanks to my parents, I have been a patron over 30yrs. I will continue to support this establishment until they are no longer. (The owner is selling)I encourage to walk by the cash register to read their signage. (To go boxes costs when eating in, they'll be closed for a July 7th - 14 2022)Also check your order when it's to go. Not only the smart thing to do in general, but they may forget something. I've repeatedly recommended this spot to friends and fam. Can't wait for my next visit. Fish basket is yummy as well as the shrimp combos! Def my go to orders"
"Well when in TX its OK to go to the Texas Roadhouse as it is one of my favorite restaurants!! I was on a girls trip in San Antonio with 3 of my Travcon friends & Ashley had a friend who we had plans to meet up here & have dinner with her. First, I must say our waitress was the BOMB!! Haley was her name & she was AWESOME & fun!! Super friendly with a great personality. She definitely loves working here & enjoys her job. We came in on 05/20/2024 around 8pm. I usually get the filet when I'm @ a Texas Roadhouse but went with the chicken critter dinner instead. It was very tasty. The chicken was nice & moist and not dried out which can happen @ restaurants. I got a loaded baked potato (a favorite) along with a soda water & tito's and vodka. The service was on point & the food was tasty. We all enjoyed our time here & had fun!!Thank you Haley for your outstanding service. Keep up the great work!!"
"Cute camping/cabin feel inside. Dinner portions are huge! However, they so have smaller versions of most plates as well which is nice. I'd recommend getting the smaller plate so you have room for dessert! Get the blackberry cobbler a la mode, yummy. It comes in a little personal size pie pan which is really enough for two to share. Chicken fried steak was crispy and Mac n cheese was creamy! Service was mostly good, there were a few times our waiter went MIA but it was busy. Will be back soon. Wish they had a closer location to the west side of SA"
