Blockhouse

I was told about this place thru a mutual friend. Maria and decided to go and check it out. I also invited my family, cause they are lasting we don't invite them. We got to this restaurant and noticed they have plenty of parking and a drive thru. They have two entrances, front and back. The back has a patio, which is nice. Games and a swing to chill on. The back patio has about 6-8 tables. Once you get in, you'll have to go to the counter to grab a menu and place your order there. The line does get long sometimes. After you order and pay, you'll get a number, find a table and the employees will bring your drinks and food. I got the brisket hash with two eggs on top. A London fog tea. Very delicious. Maria got the classic breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and a biscuit. Also a coffee. We've been here twice now, and will continue to come. We want to come for lunch one day. Service is great, plenty of employees around cleaning and asking if we are good.

We tried this place out on a whim after Sunday service and it was PACKED! Don't let the long line deter you; it moved quickly and we were able to find a table outside with a lovely view of the country side. Our food was delivered to our table in a very timely manner and everything was delicious. I got a matcha lemonade and my food was awesome! (Avocado toast + key lime waffles *to share*) ... My husband's meal (brisket hash) was good but he definitely said my choices won. Check it out if you're in St. Hedwig! This was our first great dining experience outside of the city.

Great way to start 2025. My first time to St Hedwig and this adorable place, but definitely not my last. We started with lemon blueberry bread, because breakfast should always have an appetizer. It was perfection on its own, but even better with coffee. I got the huge breakfast sandwich, which was served on a sturdy toast with thick, crispy bacon, cheese, and an egg that broke when I cut into it; so, so delicious! I also got the brisket hash to go for my folks who raved about it. The service was amazing, always someone asking if we needed anything. Can't wait to try their lunch out in the back!

What a hidden gem of yumminess right here in our local area! This reminded us of pure hospitality and southern home cooking. We happened to go on a very busy Sunday and were amazed how quickly we were served. As you'll see by the pictures, everything was cooked to perfection--eggs benedict and chicken fried steak with gravy and eggs. All the seasonings were spot on for great flavor and the attentive staff and owners were a breath of fresh air....such a comfortable atmosphere. The cappuccino was tasty and I loved the water served in a bottle. Fresh flowers on the tables added a special touch. Don't miss going for brunch...seating inside and out. Thank ya'll for such a great place

We loved this place! After staying in La Vernia with friends we decided to try it out. Homey, friendly and very delicious. Would definitely come back. The baked goods are calling my name.

Great home cooked breakfasts and pastries, great service, family atmosphere and friendliness! And an outdoor area out back with 100 year old oaks and beautiful fields!

Best lettuce I've ever had?! Ordered the Greek Pita today, first time having a lunch meal though they serve breakfast ALL DAY ‍ The almond croissant and pastries are so tasty! Love the environment and the service! These pics are a compilation of everything I've had, so so good.

This place was not bad, but we didn't have a 5-star experience. We visited on a Saturday about mid-morning on our way into San Antonio to do some shopping. We found the place very noisy and the atmosphere hectic. Having to order our food at the register before we could sit down didn't leave much time to look at the menu and made us feel rushed. Also, there isn't a lot of room by the register so people leaving and folks waiting in line to order kept bumping into each other. The food was quite good, the prices were decent, and the service was also very good. This place is very clean, too. We'll probably give the Blockhouse another try, but not when they're so busy.

Been frequenting the Blockhouse for 2.5 years. Love the food, love the neighborhood vibe. We encourage people to try it and we bring guests often. In the last year, we've seen a change from neighborhood vibe to big business. They now charge for using a credit card. The birthday treat no longer exists and the friendly "hello" is not always shared upon entering. We are also noticing an increase in trying to upsell without being forthcoming about additional cost.Having said all this, we will continue to visit the block house, but only on rare occasions from now on.
