Blanco Cafe

Parking was the biggest and only problem. It seems limited to the spaces in front with warnings at every nearby empty space. We came at 1 pm expecting to miss the lunch rush but ahead of those workers starting their luchtime at 1. There were no spaces but after we turned around in the next door bank lot, one place opened up and we grabbed it.Inside was almost full yet we were immediately seated, given waters, coffee and menus. The menu was extensive but prices were mostly in the $11 - 16 range. Our order was taken after just a few minutes, the 2nd time our server asked since the first time she asked we hadn't had time to decide. Everything looked good and all prices were reasonable.I had the fajita plate and my wife ordered the cheese enchiladas and fajita combo. Both less than $15. The flour tortillas are made fresh daily and among the best we've ever eaten. The fajita meat had absolutely great taste, though we've had fajita meat more tender (Chuy's). Our server was the best we can ever remember. From the other side of the restaurant she saw us close our menus and came immediately to get our order. She inqured a couple of times if all was good and if we might need anything. Again, from across the room, she saw me begin to look for her and motioned, asking if we needed a to-go container (yes) and brought it.This cafe was recommended by the nurses at the nearby VA hospital and, since they eat lunch regularly in this area, we were disappointed in no way.

I have been going to this location for some time, Please let me start with food, it hasn't changed much (sometimes good, sometimes just ok) the portions are huge, if you know the server personally. Just regular to small If you don't. That certainly can't justify the new higher prices on the new menus. We paid $6.99 for a side of guacamole. Walked out of the restaurant after having paid 0ver $40 plus a good tip. For Breakfast? 2 plates , 2 coffees and a side of guac. Sorry just can't afford it.P.S. if you think about it the Original Blanco Cafe is on, You Guessed it, Blanco Road. On Blanco Rd-still "The Deluxe Mexican Dinner"A Chalupa, A Crispy Taco, Guacamole Salad, 3 Enchiladas, Covered in Chili Co Carne and 2 fluffy Flour Tortillas. I will say back in the day when going to Community Collage the Tortillas were so Big they blew the lid off the tortilla warmer and after adding the Cheese on top of your enchiladas cook placed them under a Salamander to char the peeks of the Cheese. The Good Old Days. For Context, I first had The Deluxe Mexican Dinner 1978 maybe 79? But believe 78.I don't imagine it more Original than that. If I have the history wrong please let me know. Thanks

This was the first time I was in Blanco Café, and it was very inviting and the wait staff there was inviting as well. The presentation of my order was outstanding. It was a chicken fried steak and as all chicken fried steaks go it was a little bit tough other than that. It tasted good. I would go back again. They do not offer a military discount!

I love this place! Tuesday is chicken fried steak special!Excellent! Real steak and not a gross amount of batter. Cream gravy!

Been going here for years, owner is a member of the family of the first blanco cafe, and has the same great food. I have never had a meal that was not great here. Menudo is the best around as is their Valdosta. The staple cheese enchiladas are the best in San Antonio. Get here early h Fb or lunch or expect to wait as there is always a line. Service is fast and they get you in and out as quick as possible. Food is always hot and flour tortillas are homemade and round out a perfect meal. Hot sauce is the best tasting sauce you can find complimenting your meal. I could go on and on, because it is that good. I don't know why all the 2 rating, because this is San Antonio Tex-Amex at its best!

Chalupa was good. Had plenty of lettuce and cheese. Ordered flour tortillas and refried beans on the side. The meal was good. I was looking for something lite. This hit the spot. Restaurant is clean. Waiters are working hard to keep up with the high volume.

My friend suggested this place just days before she moves to Washington state as she will surely miss the Mexican food here in San Antonio. This place did not disappoint. My husband and I together with my friend came here today during lunch and the place was packed . We ordered some breakfast tacos ( they serve breakfast all day ) and I also ordered their beef nachos . All of them were so authentic and flavorful . My hubby ordered the beef enchilada plate . They were all so flavorful that my husband decided to order take out menudo while I ordered more of the chorizo and egg tacos for take out . Will dine on here again. For our Tex Mex fix .

A friend wanted to take me here as I had never been before. He couldn't believe that I had never been here before after living in SA for so long. He also wanted to beat the lunch crowd, so we did an early (11:00 A.M.) lunch.Driving up, the lunch crowd had already started. We were fortunate enough to get one of the last parking spaces. We walked in and got in the check in line. We got in a conversation with a couple of ladies in front of us. When they found out that I was a newbie, they let me know I was in for a pleasant surprise.When we got to our table, our waitress was quick with the menu. I quickly settled on the #2 special that included 2 cheese enchiladas and a taco.Food was delivered quickly, but they never brought any chips. Otherwise everything else was near perfect. Food was hot, tasty, and hit the spot. Price wasn't bad either:-)Will I return? I'll just say that this place is going on my rotation:-)

Good I great! Second time here! I had a sweet tea while eating then they charge me for 3.59 then I ask for a Togo cup and they charged me another! $3.59 your telling me the little Togo cup I got was almost $4! And then they tried to charge me $1.29 for a lemon for my barbacoa! I don't mind the money but really?! And they have no customer service our waitress was great though.!

Food was served hot and fresh. My waitress was friendly and attentive. The restaurant was half full but soon filled quickly as the lunch crowd started to file in steadily. Background music was playing at a comfortable level
