Armadillos

Armadillos on SE Military is one of two locations for this casual watering hole and burger joint. Located in a shopping area in the vicinity of Brooks, there is plenty of parking. We joined a party of 30 or so guests, celebrants at a birthday gathering for the lady of honor. Entering, there is an extended bar, with bar seating, and table seating left and right of the bar. Our party was seated on the second floor balcony overlooking the main dining area. A number of large televisions surround the room, a very good issue for us, as we wanted to watch the Texans vs Ravens NFL game! This is a very casual eatery, with a rather rustic feel to the place. We enjoyed the abience. We were immediately greeted by Maggie, a very pleasant and attentive waitress, who took our drink order: Modelo on draft. We followed with their mushroom burger, sided with fries and onion rings. Burger was delicious, the fries tasty, but for my particular preference, the onion rings were breaded with coarse breading, a bit too crispy for me...but in truth, I downed each and every one of the circular offerings. We had read previous reviews, penalizing for slow service and slow food delivery. Friends, this just wasn't our experience. Maggie, waiting on 30 guests, was prompt and attentive. Would we recommend this eatery? If one is looking for a friendly burger place with great, friendly service, looking on the southeast side of the Alamo City...definitely! Really great burgers and a cool vibe. Great service, prices won't break the bank, and full bar. I like to catch Spurs games here. You can't beat this place for a good meal at a great price.

Burgers are delicious....armadillo eggs go good with hh margaritas!!! Mushroom Swiss Burger

Was a Friday night. Plenty of parking. About a 30 minute wait. Have 32 oz. Beers which is great. Good the 1lb. Bacon cheese burger. Had plenty of bacon and cheese. Was an above average burger. But have tried much better. Now the soggy ass greasy fries are some of the worst I've had. The fried pickles were good!Would come back. But definitely will stay away from the fries!!!

What can I say---Awesome hamburgers, good people and an out side area where you can bring your dog!

05/14/2022 went to Armadillos...Beyond horrible! I ordered the large catfish sandwich and it had 0 flavor! Well let me take that back it did have a little flavor, something along the lines of mud! I was very VERY disappointed with this place! My gf ordered a small hamburger and fries and she said the fries had no flavor. I only took two bites of my catfish sandwich which cost $9.99 and left it there on the table and we left. I should've known better than ordering food when the coke I ordered came out watered down and I replaced it with a sweet tea and that was bad too! Then she charged me for the coke which I only took 1 sip out of!! The reason for even giving one star is so I can post this review and because the waitress was actually nice. I will NOT be coming back..not even if they offered me free food and a refund for their subpar quality product! 1st and last time making this mistake!

We gave Armadillo's another try because we enjoy the relaxed friendly atmosphere and am pleased to say they were back to good food. I had the cheeseburger and my husband had the tenders and tots, everything was hot, fresh and well prepared. I guess they were having an off day last time and change my rating based in our last visit.

The wait for food was long the day we went. We were sat down about 10 min after arriving. Ordered drinks and food. Food took super long to come out. Luckily it was all hot. Only complaint was the patty was not seasoned on any of our burgers.

The fact I can get an entire table for 3 in a single pic is a fail. We waited 20-mins to be seated, only to be crammed into a small table, when larger tables are available and I'm blocking the patrons at the table next to us because I'm in their walkway now. They also don't have a pager system or intercom or text you. Food is good, but I'd rather eat at home and be inconvenienced by dishes instead of paying to be crammed and uncomfortable.
