Abel's Diner

I had an Old Fashion Club Sandwich tonight!! What a great sammich it was too!! Loved seeing the staff and visiting with owners. Parking was good. Great home style comfort food.

I went to Abel's all the time growing up! Then I didnt go for years, until it was at the new location.I was bumed about not getting and rolls, since they were a dinner only item.The new location is a lot bigger and seems nicer to me. The host was great, but the server was not great.She ws very pushy and not helpful. Seemed like she was ready to snap... I dont like havong awardness with someone handling my food.The food was good, but not like how i remembered it... Servings were large though, so that was a plus!I would reccommend Abel's if you wanted to try it!

I've tried several different dishes from this restaurant and to me they're just mediocre. I had the eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce didn't taste like hollandaise sauce. It had an off taste to it.When we got there about 10:20 AM my party ordered breakfast and I wanted to order off the lunch menu but was told I had to wait until 11:15 AM so I confirmed it with the cashier as we were leaving the restaurant . You cannot order between 10:30 AM and 11:15 AM off the menu because they're changing from the breakfast menu to the lunch menu . For a person that doesn't like breakfast this was kind of a red flag for me.The biscuits are homemade and good. The gravy is ok but all the other dishes that I've had are mediocre what I do recommend is the homemade cinnamon rolls with a cup of coffee.

I had really high hopes walking into Abel's Diner. I looked at the menu online and saw that it was identical to the menu back in my hometown at the local diner. They even ran two daily lunch specials, just like the restaurant back home did. I walked inside to ask about employment opportunities. I asked "Hello, are you all hiring for servers?" The woman responded "Chili's is!!" I paused to see if she was going to answer my question. She did not, so I asked it again. "Are you guys hiring for servers?" Another woman behind the counter said "you can just take an application." And I was on my way out the door. It seems if you're not a familiar face around here, they don't care to speak to you. Most places would at least give you the decency to let you fill the application out inside. Thank you very much for making me feel welcome to the area.

The service was great! This place honestly just reminds me of grandmas house growing up. Cute little homey atmosphere.Our food was a little subpar- but I don't think people really come here for the food. They come here for the comfort and welcoming feeling from all of the staff. All of the elderly people around us were greeted with warm smiles & hugs, almost like they were family and it made my heart so warm and fuzzy. I would recommend this restaurant just for that feeling alone! I love it!

Food was okay, prices okay, quality was okay, service was okay, the ambiance was okay, overall just okay.

Always great home cooked food. Chicken fried steak is hand battered. Greaf wait service and always fresh food.

This has been the best café. My wife and I have gone to since 1991 until today 2025 when Abel is retiring my brother in Christ go and see Dr. Jeffrey Dean orthopedic surgeon on Military Highway, San Antonio.

Went to Abel's for breakfast this weekend. Total score! The waitress seated us quickly and got our drink order. When she delivered the drinks she asked if we would like a cinnamon roll for the table. OMG, it was fabulous! We had eggs Benedict, chicken fried steak and a 2 egg breakfast. Everything was tasty and served hot. The entire staff is friendly and efficient. I usually think of Abel's for dinner, but need to add them to my breakfast rotation too. Easy to find, just off the I35 access road. Nice casual place to eat great food.

Service left everything to be desired. Word of advice, do not enter this establishment from 11:00am to 12 noon. You will be met with staff telling you what you are allowed to order based on how disorganized the kitchen is at the moment. To my misfortune, my party showed up at 10:55am and greeted with being seated within 5 minutes. We were then told that we could not sit at the table the host seated us at, and were returned back to the waiting area where we waited for another 35 minutes before being seated again. Before being seated again, we were asked by someone from the kitchen if we would be getting lunch or breakfast as breakfast stopped being served at 11am. I replied that I would be getting lunch and my fiancé would be getting breakfast. We were told that she had to order breakfast right this second to get the order in. We were then finally seated at 11:35am, then were greeted by our server. When we began to order, she informed us that I could not order lunch if someone at my table was ordering breakfast. In addition if I did decide to order lunch, I would receive my food at noon, the earliest. After spending 45 minutes in the restaurant, with no meal in site, we decided to get up and leave. I genuinely had no idea how to get something to eat here. Tons of better places to go where you can actually eat.
