A fixture across the street from Vanderbilt University since 1984. In today's Nashville, that is a bona fide tradition.
Summertime in Nashville 2023. One can tell by the afternoon sun beating down on the front deck and the "help wanted" sign.
Salsa bar at the far back. SATCO offers lime in addition to lemon to give iced tea and beer a Tex-Mex spritz.
The San Antonio taco company to call themselves SATCO what it should be called is UNSATCO
To speed up counter service, SATCO uses a delightfully old-fashioned method--you fill in an order form. Brilliant!

Made a return visit after all these years. If you come back expect inflation prices. I noticed that the sheets no longer showed the price of the items (unless my memory is bad and they never did, but I could have sworn they showed the price) I got 3 regular ground beef tacos, a drink, chips and queso. The total was $18.95 I know inflation is wild and all but that seemed a bit high. I also seem to remember the queso being way better than this. The queso I had today was very similar to molten velvetta with a hint of salsa added. In hindsight I should have foregone the chips and queso but I had a sense of nostalgia that I needed to relive from the golden old days (2007-2011) lol

Still my favorite tacos SINCE 1985. Still 5 out of 5 stars. Two updates/caveats for 2023:They seem to have changed the way they prepare their chicken and make it less spicy/flavored which I don't love. (I'll still keep coming back for the homemade tortillas and general friendliness of the staff and goodness of the food and what I have learned is called the "proust phenonmenon" of food nostalgia.)They have started closing Sundays and I support their staff getting a full day away but miss it as a Sunday option.

What a great taco spot. You walk in and there are order sheets for your taco order. There were beef steak, chicken, pulled pork and fish tacos with options on what you want in your taco. Note - soft tacos were flour so you need to be explicit if you want hard, corn tortillas. There were four of us and we consolidated our four orders on one sheet. There system is really optimized for 1, maybe 2, people per order. We spent some time trying to figure out which tacos were which....not a biggie but individual orders would have been more efficient. You order and they call your name on the form when ready to pick up at the counter. Our sides were chips with yellow queso (yum!) and chips with guacamole. Queso was classic, kinda Velveeta flavor and it was excellent. Guacamole had a nice spice in it which made it very unique. Another note - you won't see chips and salsa on the order form. Order chips and there is a salsa station on the side.Nice bottled beer set of options. The service was absolutely fantastic - very nice people. Our son went to Belmont and this was a popular spot for the locals. I can see why - no muss, no fuss great tacos.

I'm torn with this place because the food is good, but it was hit or miss for some. The tacos are similar to taco Bell sized soft tacos and the crunchy tacos were full, but it says they recommend two toppings, but yet charge for all toppings. And I get it's only .25 a topping (sour cream is .40), but you should have two complimentary toppings like lettuce, tomato, or cheese and then charge for the onions, peppers, etc. Otherwise, it's just an expensive taco. The enchilada plate was very cheesy and saucy. Don't get me wrong, that is not a bad thing. But, it was a bit sloppy albeit tasty. I wouldn't get it again though. The beans were tasty though. Bean and cheese taco did it for me. Very tasty! The queso was good and you have a salsa bar with pico and salsa. The staff were friendly as all get out though. Very welcoming and friendly all around. From bringing us salsa to our table, cleaning up trays, taking our orders, holding the door. They have excellent customer service.

I've been coming to San Antonio Taco Company (SATCO) for 10+ years and can never get enough. Want to enjoy a nice day on the patio with friends? - SATCO. Tired of studying and hungry? - SATCO. Don't want to cook but don't want to spend a lot of money? - SATCO. Can't be any simpler truly... you just walk in, circle what you want on your tacos and turn in the ticket! I'm not always the biggest queso person, but I can't pass it up here.

If there was a 6th star I'd give it to them. Nashville staple. I have had the same order the last 35 years and will keep it the same for the next 35 years. Don't ever change SATCO.

SATCO is a Nashville legend and for good reason. It's our favorite counter service restaurant in the city, been going since 88. The pork tacos, chips & queso, and sweet tea are top-notch, and don't discount the wings! The people who work there are awesome, especially my friend Lennis, who I met bc I'm always at SATCO lol. The decor, both inside and out, which thankfully hasn't changed since it opened in 84, is iconic, and it better never change, especially the sign above the sweet tea!!:):) iykyk!Keep it up, SATCO!! You're the best!
