Sammies by the Sand

Sammies by the Sand occupies a terrific corner location on Mission Blvd just a block east of the waterfront. For some reason, many businesses have tried to operate from this space without any long term success. I didn't even realize that Sammies has been operating for over a year as I last remembered this place as a branch of Cheba Hut Toasted Subs. The inside still had a casual, beachy vibe with a combination of high-top and regular tables for seating.The menu board featured carnival fare such as wings, hot dogs, nachos, and pretzels besides the roster of seven sammies (sandwiches). The last category was available as a six inch or twelve inch product. I selected a small Sunset Cliffs sammie which was made up of roast beef, bacon, pepperjack, lettuce, tomato, bell peppers, crispy onions, and garlic aioli on wheat bread (my pick). The crispy onions stood out as a unique ingredient that added texture to an ordinary sandwich.The other item I purchased was a Bulldog which was one of three hot dog varieties. Chili, onion, and cheddar were the toppings, however I asked the onion to be withheld. As a chili cheese dog, the gravy wasn't too salty, but I have tasted heartier versions. What limited my rating to three stars was the inconsistent business hours that resulted in unsuccessful trips. I visited multiple times in which the doors were locked despite a sign saying they should have been open.

Amazing Family Owned Small Business! It's an Eclectic space that will knock your socks off with all their different food options.The portions are definitely shareable which is great so you can try each others picks. We had a Sunset Cliffs sandwich, it's jammed packed with Roast-Beef, Bacon, Pepper Jack Cheese and the Garlic Aioli is just the Delicious Cherry on top!We also had the Pulled Pork Nachos, the pulled Pork was tasty & warm on top of the nacho cheese, the jalapeños were the perfect addition!They also had an AMAZING tomato soup that was beyond delicious, the flavors were perfect! The customer service was also top notch! The gentleman behind the counter was so kind and helpful explaining the menu items. And his suggestion (pulled pork nachos) was definitely Greatly Appreciated!!! They are a block from the beach so we'll definitely be picking up some Amazing food for picnics.

Ocean beach sandwhich is on par with any pulled pork brisket, but lighter with a hint of coleslaw, which is backed by a taste of honeybbq.

DISGUSTING FOOD! I ordered grilled cheese with tomato soup. It was not anything close. The grilled cheese was a French roll cut in half with plastic cheese (thin layer) and there was nothing grilled cheese about it. The "soup" was a side of thick marinara that was spilt all ovee. I also ordered a pretzel and it was hard as a rock. Lastly, the fries were very soggy and chewy. Normally I can expect one item to miss, but not all of them. I threw everything away and made myself dinner instead. Save your money because there's no way this place will be in business long, esp in this economy.

Would not recommend... not good food full stems left on the banana peppers and roast beef smelt weird... Random items for sale all over feels like a thrift store and tacky highlighter poster boards with poor penmanship for advertising... a children's pop up lemonade stand could do better.... Very unprofessional and food subpar at best.

Great sandwiches and service! Love the Coronado, with buffalo chicken and slaw. This will be our new go-to sandwich spot in the neighborhood.

Great bread! Soft inside inch on the outside. Many options for sides. Decent price for sandwiches, especially for the beach. Owner is very nice.

Came after googling good sandwiches in PB. Came in a party of three and they managed to get all of our sandwich orders wrong somehow. They did apologize by giving us free cookies but getting all of all orders wrong was just too annoying. The sandwiches themselves weren't anything special the bread they use is sort of tasteless and bland. could get something better at a grocery store. Won't be back unfortunately. Go to the marketplace or Rubicon instead.

Stopped by to pick up lunch this past week around 1:00. There was one customer inside, an older man. Must have been a regular local because one of the employees used his name. Keith and Candace both helped me with menu suggestions and had my sandwich out in less than three minutes. The "Mission Bay" had perfectly salty capocollo and salami. The garlic aioli was incredible and my sammie was graced with the PERFECT amount of aioli. Ya know when you get too much condiment and it can overtake the sandwich? Not gonna happen here. Was impressed with my first visit with this little gem in the heart of PB and will most certainly return.Thanks, Keith and Candace!
