It is with great shame and embarrassment that I confess to frequenting Sake Haus since its inception without ever writing a review. However, I cannot begin to express how much I love this establishment. Every time I think of a review to write, I feel my words will not do Sake Haus justice. Alas, I will finally give my best attempt! A quaint establishment off Roosevelt street, Sake Haus is connected to its sister business, Pedal Haus (hence the "Haus" name!). The decor is fun, with an edgy vibe reminiscent of the alleyways of Tokyo at night. The staff is always friendly and meticulously trained - which is apparent in the detail in which they describe your food and sake. This also serves as a reminder of the thought and complexity that goes into their dishes! It always renews my respect for the food and sake, regardless of whether my palate is sophisticated enough to pick up on said details haha. Kim, the manager, is awesome and has become a friend over my many visits here. Joe, the head chef and brains behind a lot of the sushi, is a down to earth guy and deserves a lot of credit for what's been created! But ultimately, this is a restaurant! So we must talk about the food. And that food is stellar! The fish is always high quality and incredibly fresh, and the sushi is traditional with playful modern twists that really enhance the fish in unique and delicious ways. For the quality that you are getting, the cost is also incredibly fairly priced in my opinion. For me, staples will always be:- Kin Omakase Chef choice of 5 specialty nigiris. Great value, superb nigiris, and I like seeing what Chef Joe has in store for me!- Nigiris that I ALWAYS order regardless of the Kin is the seared salmon and seared scallop. The seared salmon has a hint of tajin that totally works. The seared scallop actually converted me to a scallop lover. It made me realize I didn't dislike raw scallop, I just never had a proper one until Sake Haus! - While rolls are not the bulk of their menu, the ones they do have are great! With the Kyuubi being my favorite. In addition to these staples, they always have a rotating specials menu that can include special fish or even fun new concoctions Joe has created! (A relatively recent one being the adobo nigiri. Such a slam dunk, I think it's a staple menu item now!) As the name implies, Sake is a big part of their identity. I am not a sake expert by any means, but even one as clueless as I can see their passion for it and the impressive variety of Sake that they have in stock. They also frequently have Sake Education classes which are really fun, lets you sample many different kinds of Sake, and even some bites included! If you've made it to this part - thanks for reading my very long winded review. If you skipped to the bottom, the takeaway is Phoenix's top sushi spot is undoubtedly Sake Haus! Go check them out!

Sake Haus has ruined sushi for me in the best way. My wife and I stumbled in to this place as we were seeking a place to get a drink during a wild First Friday street fair on our first trip to Phoenix. We immediately fell in love with the vibe of Sale Haus. The place is very cool. The staff was fantastic and attentive on a packed Friday night. We ordered three rolls to split between us and a couple drinks. Looking around we noticed, no wasabi, no soy sauce, and no ginger on anyone's table. The rolls came out and they are not like any sushi we have ever experienced. All three rolls were fantastically unique and had well balanced, complex flavors. The use of ingredients like garlic and cilantro brought an amazing and unexpected flavor to familiar dishes we've had many times in the past. There was absolutely no need for more wasabi, soy or ginger. In fact I'm so thankful that none was provided as it would be a travesty to try to alter what the chef had provided. Now here's our dilemma, I can't imagine going back to the tried and true, really good, sushi places that we regularly enjoy knowing now just how mind blowingly amazing it can actually be. We aren't locals so I'm not sure what we are going to do from this point on.. Regular trips to Phoenix will just be necessary in order to get our sushi fix from now on, I suppose.

came here on Valentine's Day on a whim cuz the place we originally planned on was full. upon calling the restaurant, the hostess kindly let us know that there was space in 40 min & to come back then. we got there a bit early & she had a spot open up so we sat down immediately. we sat at the bar so the bartender served us. she then told us that there was a limited menu on that day (prix fixe set, & a few appetizers only). & THEN said there was nothing left except the prix fixe set but they can do the 5 piece nigiri set as a la carte. we were a bit taken aback! it was only about 7pm at this point so it wasn't even late in the night or anything. the hostess should've let us know when we called. i personally do not want to dine somewhere where there is 1 thing on the menu. we actually saw a couple tables get up & leave after hearing this. which is what we should've done. at least the nigiri pieces were good! service was exceptionally slow for a not too busy night. probably won't return just cuz of a bad first impression but the food was pretty good for phx.

Although the atmosphere is a vibe. I have to say.... Idk if I've ever been charged $8 EACH for a bottle of water.... on top on asking for extra sauce being another added charge. Kinda wild that the water costed almost the same as a roll. Only reason it's getting 3 stars is the ube tiramisu was pretty fire and we were in a good mood

Wow! I stumbled across this place on first Friday. Left Phoenix about 3 weeks ago. And I am still thinking about my experience here. Such authentic, delicious and unique rolls! I'd recommend this place for group of friends and dates. The service was superb. The ambiance made the experience that much better. 5/5 stars.

A fun weeknight in Phoenix at the Sake Haus. Fun concept with great drinks, small bites that priced just right for the quality. Service was fantastic, unfortunately a few items on the menu were not available for me to give place a five stars. I'll be coming back for sure.

We went during happy hour and all the maki rolls were super good and cheap!!! The quality of the fish was surprisingly very good the sushi quite literally melts in your mouth. The vibes this place has is immaculate. Great for a chill date or catching up with friends. Service was great and employees were all very attentive and kind.

One of the best sushi restaurants we have been to. The food is a bit expensive but it's definitely worth it. We love the inside and everything about this restaurant. Service was great.

My boyfriend mentioned that this is one of the better sushi spots he has had while living in Arizona, and I must agree that it is very quality! Sake Haus gives off a traditional and contemporary aesthetic, and the dimly lit restaurant feels like I am underground somewhere. If you are familiar with Bang Bang in San Diego, then I am thinking of just that. It is also similar that it is a bit on the pricier side, but this was very much worth it. The menu is small, but packed with flavor. It offers a few appetizers, rolls, nigiri and sashimi. There is an omakase, which is essentially five different pieces of nigiri, and I believe at least one of the pieces changes every so often. It was mentioned that it is a chef-styled place as in the chef chooses what to serve on that day. I will say my favorite thing was the wagyu nigiri -- so much that we ordered more. The ryujin, bad & buri, and wagyu fat pork gyoza (we ordered two) were also top tier. Honestly, all of it was delicious, and I got the kin (gold) omakase, and each piece was a pleasant surprise. The sashimi salad was also tasty, but I wish the dressing was more prevalent and more cucumbers (and protein of course). Overall, everything was 10/10 (or 5/5 because it is Yelp). Our waiter was a gentleman with a ponytail (and a smiley piercing) and he was great! He was so attentive and chill. I can't remember his name and I didn't get my receipt to look for it, but shoutout to him, especially because I called him over to pay for the meal before my boyfriend got back from the bathroom. It was cool because he announced it like, "If there's nothing else you need, then you're good to go. The bill has been taken care of, she paid for it" and that was great. I didn't know he was going to do that, but it made it that much better. I would definitely come back!

I've been here twice now and have had pretty good experiences both times. Their happy hour menu is pretty sweet with half off maki rolls. We tried 3 different rolls and I would order them all again. Great price on happy hour, but I wouldn't pay full price for them because they are very pricy if not on HH. I would come back primarily on HH for their maki rolls.
