Tired of driving around the parking lots by Minnehaha Falls, feeling lucky if somebody leaves and you can pay the machine for that spot to park? Drive up the hill (just up 46th Avenue So)-like you're headed for the Veterans Home. On top of the hill is the Wabun Picnic Area & Disc Golf. It's not far from the bicycle trails! It offers clean bathrooms, beautiful mature trees, good views, nice playground & wading pool for the kiddos, ChargePoint Charging Station for electric vehicles, and disc golf.Yes, it is a walk to Minnehaha Falls (0.5 miles, about an 11 minute walk) but it's well worth it!

This is one of the best parks for kids and families in the twin cities. The Wabun Park has everything you need for a truly fun day. On one side is the VA and on the backside is the Mississippi River this park is near the Hiawatha Falls area. The play structure is fantastic. Swings, slides spinners and sand with a large climbing structure. There are four covered structures for picnics, outdoor grills and plenty of seating in the sun and shade There is an incredible wading pool with a waterfall that flows over the kids with great bathrooms and a changing area.To top of off there is a historical tour that shows how in the 20's people would camp at this park as a part of the auto tours.I loved this park and more importantly my three girls all under 6 thought it was amazing!

We love that Wabun Picnic Area has varied picnic shelters for rent or use free of charge with grills close by if you don't have one. We like that the playground equipment is sensory adapted to include all kids to play without limitations. They have a splash pad that is pretty cool with zero depth entry wading pool for the real little ones that are just learning to walk or crawl. The area is part of Minnehaha Falls Park. The secluding of the Wabun is nice because the kids have an open grass area to play and run around. The bathroom is clean and it's nice that the changing table is in the open area instead of being in one of the handicap stall. A plus for free parking and it overlooks the river and dam.

This is one of our favorite parks. It has a free splash pool, awesome playground suitable for all ages, tons of picnic tables in the shade, views of the river and dam, and of course tons of green space. It is also connected to Minnehaha park so if you come with bikes you can easily get down there to see the falls or even explore all the way down to the dog park!
