Townies Grill'd Philly Subs and More

Can you be a hidden gem if you've been named best sandwich shop in Rochester the last 2 years?Townies has that "hidden gem" feel to it. It is tucked away in the clubhouse of the Soldier's Field golf course - not a place you stumble across, rather a place you intend to get to. And people should intend to get here. The bartender, who took my order, was friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. I sat and watched him greet folks and introducing new customers to the restaurant. He makes a great first impression. I ordered the All-American, a steak sandwich with onions, bacon and American cheese. Nice lean meat and the cook let the American cheese melt through the steak rather than rush it out. The fries were good and served with malt vinegar. The roll is on the crunchy side rather than a soft roll but it totally works. Keep in mind that Townies is a bar. The ambiance isn't romantic but friendly and fun. They offer paper and electronic pull tabs, a pool table and plenty of TVs to enjoy whatever game is on tap.

One of the best Philly sandwiches I've ever had and it's my go to at any place that serves them. 5 stars would be selling them short. Killer coleslaw and cheese curds I would have taken a picture of those but they didn't make it. By the time I knew I was going to write a review "which I'm not one to do" they were long gone.

You don't come by food this good at a golf course very often. It ALWAYS hits the spot after a round of golf! ‍

First time here. The restaurant is tucked into the Soldiers Field Golf Course. There is no problem finding a spot to park in the oversized lot. Just follow the menu board to order. There's a lot of choices in the menu so plan on taking a few minutes to read it through before ordering. I ordered the Jerk (chicken) 7" sandwich with a side of creamy Cole slaw and chipotle sauce. They give you a pager when you order and after sitting down it wasn't but a few minutes our pager signaled pick up. The sandwich was very good as it's paired with pineapple slaw. The Cole slaw reminded me of KFC, but better. Very friendly staff, clean facility and restrooms. We'll be back to taste their other options!

I ordered the Humpty Dumpty burger through doordash a few nights ago. I've got to say it was thee best burger I've had in a long time! Seasoned perfectly, cooked perfectly. So juicy and delicious! Also, they didn't overcook the egg, I want a runny yolk when I have an egg on a burger. My only thing was that it would have cost over 3$ to add bacon. Also, the fries were amazing! They just don't give you very many. If the order of fries was bigger, it would have been a 5 outta 5 star rating.

First time visiting today. Sandwiches were okay. We were disappointed in the amount of fries we were given for the price we paid for them. Best part of eating here is the patio (the inside was sooooo cold), and Libby. She was so friendly not only with us but with everyone else we saw her help.

Adjacent to a public golf course, this is a clean and friendly Restaurant. I had The Philly Special sandwich with hand cut fries and chipotle sauce. The sandwich is made to order so exercise some patience. Now when you read most reviews on Philly Cheese sandwiches it's always a comparison to Jim's Steak, or Geno's or Pats back in Philly. I'm not doing that. This sandwich at Townie's stands on it's own. The sum is greater than its individual parts that come together for a great sandwich. The bread is top notch and toasted. The cheese sauce and lightly grilled onions were tasty. The steak was chopped, tender and seasoned. I'll be back

New place in soldiers field club house. nice improvement, great sandwiches and service. We enjoyed 2 for one when we golfed last year, hope they offer it again this season.

Beef sandwiches were delicious. Counter service. Lots of tvs if you like to watch sports games.

Good cheesesteaks. Fries are excellent but you don't a lot. Free popcorn. Place is clean. Food is fresh. Tried the Bahama was very good. The regular cheese steak is good as well. Sandwiches are well built. Nice friendly service.
