If you want a real suit buying experience this is it. John is a professional and will fit you to look great while also teaching you all you need to know to get the right suit for you. I wanted something better than buying a suit off a shelf from some box store and I could not have been happier with Top Shelf in quality, fit, and the overall experience.

A terrific place to buy custom suits, sport jackets and shirts. The proprietors are very knowledgeable, professional folks who pay close attention to my existing wardrobe and current requirements. It is a pleasure to visit their shop and to have known and worked with John and Pat since 1993.If you have a 27 year old from Tom James wanting to barge into your office to sell you shirts and suits, go visit Top Shelf instead over your lunch hour or on a Thursday evening. You are in for a real treat and will have many options to choose from. Well worth the trip.

How amazing is this place? Super amazing. I stopped in to get a suit fitted for my wedding and everything from the initial consultation to the final fitting could not have been better. There are options for every price range, styles for every taste, and some of the best customer service around. John is not only an enormous resource to someone looking for something special for their big day, he's also a super nice guy. My wedding suit turned out amazing -- and considering I'm able to wear it to work, too -- it was an awesome investment. I'd recommend it to any grooms out there looking for something a little more special than Men's Warehouse.

I just picked up a shirt which I had brought in to be taken in a bit because it fit well in the shoulders but was loose in the midsection. The shirt had some very nice detailing I wished to keep: chain-stitching with a visible runoff at the bottom of the seems of the shirt and what I can only describe as a sort of extra piece of visible reinforcing material also at the bottom of the shirt on both sides. I was assured when I brought the shirt in that both could be preserved as long as I didn't mind paying a bit extra in labor. I said I definitely wished to keep both. When I picked the shirt up this morning, both were gone and I was told that it was too late to do anything about it. Initially i was billed full price for the alteration despite the two things that I specifically requested be preserved having been disposed of instead. After asking about the price, Pat took $10 off.I was impressed with the products in the store and the customer service when I went in to be fitted. Unfortunately, this will not fix a very expensive, brand new shirt that has been partially ruined.I was also fairly put off by the dismissive manner in which I was told that there wasn't anything to be done. The shirt fits well but I would not have sacrificed the detailing for a slightly trimmer fit and quite frankly was surprised they didn't at least ask if there was something they could do to make up for the mistake, retain my business, etc. Just not what I am used to with locally owned businesses. All the other reviews are outstanding and I may go back if I need dress clothes custom made since that seems to be their forte. I will update if I have a better experience in the future. For now, I am still in the market for a local tailor for alterations for non-dress clothing (I will probably stick with NE Tailor Shop for dress clothes alterations after this experience).

I cannot express my gratitude toward Pat and John at Top Shelf.Little back story, I took a trip from San Diego to Minneapolis for a wedding. The suit I planned on wearing got a really nasty, unrepairable tear in it right before I was getting ready to leave. I freaked and made a run to Zara, grabbed a suit and hit the plane.Arrived in Minneapolis and searched Yelp for a good tailor close to the area I was in.I found Top Shelf and planned on being at there door as soon as they opened. When I got there I spoke to Pat about having my pants taken in, shortened and my jacket shortened at the sleeves as well. She told me "we can have it in a couple days." I informed her that I needed it the next day. Did I mention that it was the Thursday of Memorial Day weekend? Pretty much impossible. Pat called John over, he measured me out and told me that he will have it by noon the next day.At 10:00 a.m. on Friday I got a call from Pat that told me the suit was ready to be picked up. Well WOW!!! is all I can say. John had me try it on in the store and it fit perfect. I was completely taken away by how nice the suit turned out. I don't recommend that anyone do what I did, but take comfort in the fact that with little time, Top Shelf knocked it out the park. I don't know when or if I will be back in Minneapolis anytime soon, but if I am I will definitely be stopping by to say hi.I have recommended them to all the people at the wedding and hopefully this review will work to.

I highly encourage anyone living in the Twin Cities and looking for high quality men's business dress essentials to talk to John Meegan. His shop is cozy, full of amazing items and fabrics, and a refreshing alternative to so many other 'suit' shops and department stores. The service has always been great, their custom dress shirts are beautiful and fit perfectly, and once I have the need and budget for a proper business dress wardrobe, I'll be here in a second. Also, they do great alteration work and standard tailoring, so support a local business that gives back to the community!
