First time visit to the Theatre in the Round. I saw Glory, a play about starting a womens hockey team in Canada at a time when women playing hockey was thought ridiculous. It was so well done. There really is no stage as the play takes place on the same center floor as you use to get to your seat. They did a great job to paint the floor to look like ice and the walls surrounding it to look like wooden hockey boards. We parked in the hotel parking lot a block away. Staff was welcoming and helpful. The board chair came out and said a few words before the performance. I'll definitely keep my eye open for more plays here. Great experience.

I'm revising my review just because I noticed that I had only given it four stars originally, but come on, I get the full season package every year and I have no intention of stopping. Everything in my original review still applies, but after many years of seeing what they are capable of, I really feel like they merit a strong recommendation. Theatre in the Round is a community theater putting on mostly repertory productions of established plays. The stage is surrounded on all sides by audience seating, presenting an advanced challenge for the production and a unique and intimate experience for the audience. I have seen some incredibly entertaining productions of comedies like Arsenic and Old Lace, The Government Inspector, and Private Lives, and some stunningly intense dramas like Doubt, True West, and A View from the Bridge. This outfit really should be proud of all the great work they've done over the years.I want to pitch their season ticket packages. As I mentioned, I buy them every year. The shows in a season ticket package come at a significant discount when looked at per-ticket. They are flexible (I often have to change my date & it's easy to call them and make the switch) and offer six-show packages as well as the whole season. I love blindly ordering the full season and accepting whatever they're putting out there! Try it! The slate of plays they choose each year reflects their spirit of pleasing audiences without being pandering. Theatre can be lots of fun, and it can also be indulgent. They lean more toward the former, but there is plenty going on here for anyone with an appetite for grown-up art.Performances are on Friday evenings, Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons. They also usually offer a Monday evening (yes, theater on a Monday!) pay-what-you-can show once per title. Again, try it!

My first time coming to Theatre in the Round as an adult and it was great! Saw "Silent Sky" with my cousin and loved the production! The cast was great and the show really was enhanced by the unique theatrical design. Will be making a point to come again in the future. Street parking or a ramp is a couple of blocks away. Could be a challenge to navigate with mobility limitations.

Historical rotund intimate place to enjoy some community theatre. I want to say this place is known for performing murder mysteries based on my friend's feedback who came here fairly often when studying at the U. It's right next to the West Bank and close to light rail station. Parking on the street is tight, so I chose the garage next to the hotel. The theatre does provide a voucher, but that night there was an issue. Luckily a parking attendant was available onsite and resolved it. This being my first time, I wasn't sure what to expect and kept my mind open. We watched "the Secret of Chimney Manor" on a Friday night. It felt like watching something on PBS masterpiece. It was a little overly complicated with too many loose ends settling at the end. Would prefer some twists and turns that weren't expected and resolved. The audio system also felt a bit dated, but I couldn't tell if it's due to being a theatre commissioned piece... let's just say it doesn't have Guthrie's budget. That being said let's talk about the nice things. When you first enter the building, you're in a rather small waiting room that's blocked off by a curtain. Going up the stairs, you'll enter the break area where local art pieces are presented on display for purchase. It's quite cozy inside. There's a variety of beverages and snacks available during intermission and coat hangers. Since it's a small theatre and round, there's no back stage. The hands bring pieces from a number of different hallways. There is a stage front facing the center hallway, but the performers did a wonderful job facing different directions and moving around to take advantage of being 360. The other fun thing was the set pieces placed along the walk ways and above an elevated stage atop the center hallway. They ask to keep the aisles clear and not just for fire safety. The performers were lovely and you could tell that the theatre is supported by an audience who appreciates quality entertainment. A good date night activity.

The theater itself is intimate and comfortable, all seats are good seats, and tickets are $25, which is pretty affordable. There's a nice little lobby concession area with fairly priced hot drinks, snacks, and wine, and friendly service. The productions I've seen have been very good to excellent. I love the relaxed atmosphere and really look forward to seeing plays here. Parking is just up the street next to the hotel (think it's a Courtyard?), and you can get a discount voucher after the show. Also, they have pay what you can shows occasionally.

It's a good community theater and it's also the oldest running theater in the Twin Cities (and maybe Minnesota... I can't remember though). Most of the seats are good. It's a small theater and the highest you'll ever be from the action is seven rows up. Depending upon the play and the layout, some sections will have a better view than others. We saw Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, which was set in the 1960's with a beach movie theme. The production was simple, but creative and effective. The current (2019) season is $22-25 per ticket. It's a little pricey, considering that the actors aren't paid at all ("community theater"), which makes me feel uneasy while I'm enjoying the show at their considerable time and effort. The lobby areas are nicely decorated and you can get a beverage in the back lobby, which you can't take into the show, unless it's water.

Great intimate theatre experience for a great price. We've attended four or five Theatre in the Round productions and never been disappointed. There really isn't a bad seat in the house; about the farthest you can get from the stage is 6 or maybe 8 rows back. The sets are always very well decorated. Since it is in the round, the sets are more minimal, without extensive backdrops, but they make great use of the space, and I've always been amazed to see how they transform the stage to match each play. I would describe the players as semi-pro. They are much better than many smaller community players I've seen. Overall the productions are first rate, and well worth the price. You won't be disappointed.
