This place is downright awesome. It's my second favorite course I think I have ever played. Honestly I'm an awful golfer and The Refuge is not user friendly. I lost more golf balls playing here than I should probably ever admit. The greens are large and challenging, the views are breathtaking. A couple of the holes you tee off from a platform that was built it a bog. Many of the holes you have to dodge ponds and woods so thick you'll never get your ball back. Ended up using a Groupon and my friend and I will definitely be back.

Course is in great condition, staff are very friendly, menu was minimal for end of October but was to be expected. Drinks were priced well. With the two for one Groupon it was a steal. Looking forward to heading back next year.

I'm done considering this course as a place to play golf.I had a coupon for "Buy one round, get a 2nd round free".Before booking a tee time, I got a price and confirmed by two different people (got their names), what the price would be. Booked the tee time for the wife and I. After driving all the way there, they wouldn't honor the coupon. Was told the people who quoted me that price was mistaken. Their comment was: "Well, you drove all the way here, you have a tee time, you might as well play" but @ a significantly higher price. We will never patronize this establishment again.

I am working a wedding tonight with my husband who is the Dj for the night. I have been to many weddings and I have to say by far the best food I have had at a wedding in awhile! My husband had the ribeye steak, which was huge! I had the walleye and it was as long as my arm. Very generous portions, very flavorful and great sides. Our table was impressed with the food.

This course is legit. There are quite a few nice courses in close proximity, (i.e. Majestic Oaks, Bunker Hills) however The Refuge holds its own. I was shocked to see the GroupOn deal so I jumped all over it. We went on a Friday morning and were paired up with another two-some, luckily they were a cool father/daughter pair and didn't slow us down at all. The patio looked nice and the restaurant menu seemed promising, due to time we didn't eat here but would definitely give it a shot in the future. The club house is huge and I imagine they throw a pretty good wedding. How about the golf... We showed up about 15 minutes early, by the time we paid and went the restroom it was around 5 minutes before our tee time. The ranger starting people off the #1 box rushed us a little, "Let's go guys" in a not so friendly tone. I hate being rushed off the #1 tee, especially when you have a crowd standing around. Luckily I crushed the tee shot, if I would have f'ed it up I would have likely blamed him for my poor start:) There was some standing water in places but it had little impact on play. You won't find a lot of elevation changes here considering the marsh "refuge" environment, but there are plenty of unique tee boxes. Quite a few island type tees in the middle of a pond where it's necessary to clear 100-150 yards of hazard. 4 different tee boxes allow you to make it as challenging as you want. The holes are nicely spaced out, it's not like the city courses where every fairway is parallel to the next one.I'll put it on my list of courses to play again, especially if the GroupOn for BOGO is still out there.

My daughter's wedding was held at The Refuge recently. The venue was perfect, the food delicious and the staff was excellent!! I highly recommend this as a wedding location. We were able to hold the wedding outside and it was beautiful and romantic. We had 190 guests and the tables were not crowded together. It felt spacious. The drinks and food were delicious. The dance floor was roomy. The staff were so helpful with all of the details while setting up. We didn't have to worry about a thing the day of the wedding as they took care of it all. We were able to enjoy every minute of this special day.

The Refuge was our wedding venue this weekend and we cannot say enough good things. The staff was professional, our coordinator, Lisa, was phenomenal and the food was amazing! We danced all night! I had more people than I can count come tell me how beautiful the venue was and how much fun they had. We also got the chance to play the course! It was in amazing shape and was gorgeous. The cart girl was around 4 times before then end of our round which was great! The Refuge holds a special place in our hearts and anyone looking for a venue should give this place serious thought.

Pace of play is egregiously slow. Waited for at least 10 minutes on every tee box. Left after 15 holes as we couldn't stand to wait that long anymore. Price is also too high so not worth going without a discount or coupon. Course is in fine shape, but the experience is completely ruined by absurdly slow pace of play.

Great staff and clubhouse! I would recommend this place to anyone, the food is great and there is always cold beers! Remember to bring your laser or other means of gps, this course is tough and you need to pay attention to carry.

Slow play, tee times to close together and many bunkers low on sand. Almost always 4 1/2 hours on weekdays . Has gone down hill the past few years
