It's unfortunate that Swanson Meats feels no compunction about using the bike lanes on 26th Avenue as a staging area for their loading dock. This practice puts cyclists, including myself, at risk every single day. Many is the day when I ride south on 26th Avenue and am forced out of the safety of the bike lane and into the danger of the traffic lane due to a semi truck parked the wrong way in the bike lane outside of Swanson Meats.Swanson claims that they do everything they can to stop this practice - claiming they have no control over third-party contractors. That's untrue for a couple of reasons - first, there's video evidence that they specifically tell their third-party contractors to park in the bike lane. Second, they could always fire their contractors and hire contractors that obey the law - this is, in fact, what any ethical company would do.I've tried to address this issue to Swanson directly several times after having been personally affected by their misbehavior, but I've never heard back from them. It's really shameful that a company has such little regard for the safety of members of the community in which they do business.
