Smiling Pelican truly is the center point of Maiden Rock. As Covid-19 made many businesses adapt to reality Smiling Pelican did so as well. They have changed to a Saturday 9am until sold out schedule and boy do they have the following. On one hand I don't want to tell anyone new to make the trip as I don't want to wait in longer lines but I also want people to experience the amazing bakery items they make. So with that I will say I highly recommend you give them a try.

What Willie Wonka was to chocolate, Sandra brings to baked goodies. No, not Ompaloompas, but rather a world of tried and true recipes that somehow manage to redefine whatever item you are biting into. The sour cream onion focaccia - inspired! Irish potato bread - full of stick to your ribs goodness. The sweets are equally good. Definitely worth the drive. For Covid they are only open on Saturday's and you need to be in line before nine to get anything. Go, enjoy!

Omg, this place is wonderful. My friend told me to go, so I stuck it onto my Pie Tour. I walked into this CUTE bakery, and it smelled like heaven. People were so nice and patient, they answered my questions very politely. Between the 2 of us we got 2 slices: Raspberry Custard and Coconut Cream Pie. They were both magical. The Raspberry Custard was by far superior, but I'm biased because I love custard AND it had a delicious crumble on top. Everything was amazing. This place...geez! I cannot wait to go back. This place is cash only or checks so make sure you stop by the ATM.

This is one of the best bakeries I have ever eaten at in my life! My Mom and brother couldn't agree more! The quiches are super yummy and some of the baked goods we had included Lavender-Ginger-Sugar cookies, 5-Spice cookies, Orange-Poppyseed muffins, 3-berry pie (the best I've ever had anywhere!), raspberry cream pie, and more! Everything was super fresh and most often warm from the oven still! Well worth getting there as early as you can to get the best selection! Sit outside in the gorgeous flower garden and enjoy the peacefulness of the community you're in. One of the sheds in the back of the Smiling Pelican even has solar panels on it which makes us want to support them even more! We will ALWAYS stop by whenever we come through this part of MN/WI!

The name says it all. You'll be all smiles and wish you had a gullet when you see what's in store for you at The Smiling Pelican. Sandra, Dave and their crew are the real deal when it comes to superior baked goods and customer service. Arrive earlier than later on the days they're open in order to see, smell and taste the offerings for the day. When it's time for my Last Supper I pray my bread and dessert are from the Pelican. Mana from heaven!

What a little gem of a place! The quiche we had was perfect. Flaky crust and a fluffy filling stuffed with vegetables. The lady at the counter was extremely friendly and passionate about the baked goods. I wanted to buy everything ;) The outdoor porch was great for our summer lunch.

Really not much to this place, however if you step inside you will be treated some outstanding bakery items. The place just smells wonderful, and everything is fresh...very fresh. Two things that I HIGHLY recommend are: the lavender ginger cookies, and the carmelized onions and sour cream focaccia. The focaccia never even made home to the twin cities. We couldn't stop ourselves and ate it on the way.

This is the best bakery in the Midwest (maybe the US), I've personally never had better baked goods anywhere else. My wife and I drive an hour from the twin cities, just for to go there and we haven't ever been disappointed. Our favorite is the sour cream onion focaccia bread. It will change your life!

Waiting in a line, freezing my butt, not a way to enjoy my Saturday mornings. You can't get or see any cake that you want, bread that has no taste is all that is available it looks nice, but has no taste. We like a hearty whole grain New York Salt Rye bread that wakes you up in the morning and delivers power of goodness. However the cookies are fine when available. I have tried a number of times to go there and never any luck to get what was in the past exceptional. That said it is not worth the drive and effort, I now go to Red Wing Bakery, Hanisch. Their pastry is out of this world. I'm sure after the Covid passes you will be able to see what is available in their pastry department and select their fine pastries. That said, The Pastry Chef makes the best pies that we ever have had and awesome cookies. I think they need to learn about Masks, they work. I noticed all the good reviews are only in the past before Covid.
