Cute shop with lots of great gifts including stickers, jewelry, French Soaps, cards, socks, accessories, clothes etc. Well worth the visit. Shop owner was very nice and it was hard to leave without buying anything. There is also plenty of free ramp parking nearby.

I stopped into Shop In The City a few weeks ago and was a bit more impressed with the merchandise than my first visit. If you're looking for a gift for a lady or a kid, you could definitely find something here... and something really cute. I tried on scarves and ogled coffee table books for quite a while before removing myself from the premises. There's also a large kids section, plus plenty of scented candles, jewelry, novelties and journals. As I mentioned in my older review, it's kind of like a Patina or a Bibelot, but it's not a big chain. It is a very small local chain, actually, since there is another shop in the Fulton neighborhood. And I feel much better about supporting them than the big guys.

Shop in the City is a kitschy girls paradise. There is absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing in the store you need, but it is filled to the brim with things you will think you need, and that you will covet and want.Crazy coffee table books and action figure Librarians and Jesus bobble heads and cocktail napkins and wine glasses with cutesy sayings etched on them and fun frames filled with profound sayings and funky one of a kind jewelery peak out and tease your inner girlie girl from all corners. They have every expensive scented candle and bath product ever made, some one of a kind clothing and accessory pieces, and even a fun children's section. The best thing about Shop in the City is the cards. If you are a card girl, and I so am, Shop in the City (and the Afternoon) have by far the best, most amusing, and most beautiful cards around. Hallmark eat your heart out.Bottom Line: Its a little pricey. But if you have the money and you love kitschy things for home and gifts, Shop in the City will fit your needs nicely.PS. It occurred to me after talking to a friend that some of you may not know what "kitschy" is... I think of you don't know what "kitschy" is then you are not kitschy and therefore do not need to know or shop at Shop in the City. However for those of you who are still curious, from the Urban Dictionarykitschy 1. adj - Having to do with the kitchen.2. adj - Quite cool, nifty, but still cheesy3. adj - Cheesy, campy. Think Precious moments, Donny and Marie Osmond, ABBA. 4. adj - So tacky or lame that is has a certain ironic appeal(Don't say I never taught you anything)

Really eclectic mix of interesting stuff. Everything from quick books, clothes, toys, gag gifts, etc, etc etc-got to see to understand. If your looking for gift for hard to buy for person, you'll find something here.We go for the French Milled soap. They ran out a bit ago (French on strike) but it's back. Lovely scents & combinations. We travel with their soap. It is such a nice treat on the road, big bar, moisturizing, long lasting & beats the heck out of hotel soap.Parking lot can get busy, but also have street parking on Chicago. Folks working there always seem happy & in good moods. How can you not be with all the cool do-dads & funny books about? Come in an off mood, look around & you'll be smiling in no time.

The store is very charming, however, the owners were downright rude to my partner and I as soon as we entered the shop. I was initially intrigued by the shop because their displayed clothes appeared to be plus-size and was curious about their selection. As we entered, the owners were having an uncomfortable discussion (already bad for business), but I stuck around to check out the cardigans on the rack. Now, I was determined to spend money in this store until my partner politely asked if they had a trashcan and the owner suggested they walk a block and a half down the street- to which they exited to shop to rid of their trash somewhere a bit more understanding. The owners proceed to scoff and complain and replied "if he has a problem with it, they can go shop at Goodwill instead". I instantly stopped looking through the rack of cardigans and walked out. I'd love to believe all of this was a case of bad timing, but I also know much better and have lived enough life to know when I'm not welcome in a store.

This is a great little locally owned gift shop. They have quite a few unique items for gag gifts or something nicer like jewelry, women's clothing or soaps and candles. It does remind you of a Patina and I would say it's fair to compare the two, but Shop in the City is a little more competitively priced. It's one of those places that you have to take your time and walk around slowly so you don't miss anythingI didn't realize they're a french soap specialty store of sorts, if that's your thing then this is the place for you. I've purchased the long wick candles a few times which are always a hit, they are a little spendy but look cool when they burn and smell great. There is a designated parking lot and although small I've never had problems getting a spot. 48th and Chicago is one of my favorite neighborhood business areas, with shopping, food and drinks it's definitely worth a visit when in south Minneapolis.

I'm in here almost monthly for a greeting card, last minute gift, or stocking stuffer The store has a wide variety of items, including some women's clothing, baby/kids gifts (including a decent selection of books, many of which have been "kid tested" by the owners kids/grandkids), candles/soaps, jewelry, and a pretty good assortment of kitschy, silly gifts. It's a great store for browsing, and the owner is always very friendly.

I've lived SW mpls for 10 years and discovered this gem of a store just a month ago. You will not be able to walk in here and not leave with at least (5) things. Guaranteed. It might add up to $10 or $100 , but rest assured you will be compelled to buy something. This is one of the few businesses I've encountered outside of the restaurant, hotel or bar industry where the business is the owner and every square inch of that business is straight from the owners heart and (awesome) sense of humor.

This is a charming little "gifty" store that's super convenient to run in and grab something when I'm in a last minute tizzy to find something for a friend. It's sort of a similar concept to Patina, but with less kitchen items and more clothing items. Some of the items are perhaps geared towards an older crowd than myself - I find more things there for my mother than I do for myself, if that makes sense. They seem to have a good selection of cute cards, which is why I usually pop in. Overall, worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood.
